[SPEC] folder names on lycgy/usr

I'm sure most of those names are either fictional or eastereggs, but which of those have we figured out so far?
I try:

acarpus - carpus = bones in the hand + it derives from Karpos, who's some Greek figure "renowned for his beauty"

ahanso - Alvar Hanso

aoconnor - O'Connor Airlines?

compass - a folder for the Jeep Compass??

dcheever - Dick Cheever

ddouglas - Donald Wills Douglas? (a reaching connection to Douglas Aircraft Company)

draupp - ?

fgardner - Frank Gardner? (Australian race car driver...don't think so...)

hfeargha - that's a strange one... (almost looks anagrammish)

hmcintyr - Hugh McIntyre

jgranger - that's the Granger guy who interviews Gary Troup, but his first name is Laird...huh?

jsimko - Joe Simko?

kporfiro - ?

lorchard - ?

lpeck - Lawrence Peck

lwales - Liddy Wales

mwilliam - ?

owelles - Orson Welles Laughing

pthompso - Peter Thompson

sconroy - Ste(v/ph)en Conroy ?

tmittelw - Thomas Werner Mittelwerk

wmalik - probably a Pakistani as I have gathered from Google searches...or Arabic

zbach - ?

This page might not be revisited, although I read that someone found Vanderfield's folder, which is not listed here...
Which makes you think...why is it missing?

To get Vanderfields folder, type:

http://www.letyourcompassguideyou.com/usr/jvanderf

I think it has something to do with the clue persephone left:

"A mouse does not rely on just one hole"

Maybe a back door to more information...?

I've emailed the webmaster at the website and posed as Vanderfield to try to get access...

Joe Simko is a New York punky poster artist. Probably no connection...

As it relates to the folders, I'm also a suspicious about the times they were last updated. The last one updated was hmcintyr (btw, are these their log in names for the board of director's page), which was updated at 11:09. One minute earlier pthompso was updated, which makes sense because these are both active, but sconroy was also updated at this same time. This would seem to point a finger at Steven Conroy, but who is that?

Looking at the rest of the times in order, you have owelles and aoconner updated five mintues before Thompson and Conroy, and then everyone else was updated eight minues before that except for acarpus with a "last modified" date that's a good 31 minutes before everyone else.

Also, why is it we can get into Thompson and McIntyre's files, but nobody else? Did Persephone hack into the site but only look up their stuff? It seems sort of like opening a locked door for everyone else to enter in.

Also keep in mind when looking at these names that only eight total characters are allowed. In other words, "mwilliam" is probably someone named "M. Williams" or even "M. Williamson," and names including "hfeargha" and "kporfiro" may have longer last names.

On a related note to by above reply, if Persephone did hack into the files for McIntrye and Thompson, why did she not also hack into Mittelwerk's. Afterall, she looked up dirt on him too?

Wouldn't it be pretty cool (and technically accurate) if the file mod dates and times changed to reflect supposed activity? I mean, as far the ARG goes, this is a real functioning corporation, doing international business daily. That doesn't mean that stuff should be updated neccessarily, but it would be sweet if totally non-important (obviously so, btw) would change. Like maybe be able to read a mail from thompson to a buddy about going to a sporting event or just menial crap like that. Then one day...WHAM! a whopper of a document/clue...At least we would all have something new to look at each day, even it was completely non-important...kinda like eavesdropping...

Can we make an assumption that Persephone is one of four executives or the four on the board of directors?

This may be coincidence, but has anybody noticed that if you take the 5 user folders with the more recent modified times:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

owelles
pthompso
aoconnor
hmcintyr
sconroy
The last letters of the names will form the word sorry
I've looked for other words there, but that is all I've found so it may just be coincidence.

That just tells me that the fan running the site found the same hidden word.

What you describe is exactly how a high-quality, highly-immersive ARG should run, as I see it. To believe that this company just uploaded all of these directories on May 10th, we need an excuse such as a server crash and restore; to believe that these people have NO other mail and NO further activity in those directories is playing with the "willing suspension of disbelief".

Or, to fanwank it, we tell ourselves that these are not the real fuctional user directories, but a snapshot of them made by Persephone on one day and stored in this special place for our personal access.

But the entry at the Phi-Eri was posted days before the LYCBYG site was put up.

before this thread gets DERAILED onto a discussiong about another site, I'll say I was distracted by the May 10th timestamps on that folder. And I'll say it's a coincidence for now.

Yes, that's right. Of course, "sorry" could be just a coincidence. The blog looks wild...all those codes he's throwing around. It looks like a fan-site to me, for the time being.

Like catherwood said, I suggest discussing this further in another thread. Smile

Gus Raja:
Steven Conroy...I'm not sure who he is, really. I just remember reading that name somewhere. Not on this board, though. Perhaps I'm confusing him with a real person, that's entirely possible. But I immediately had that name in mind.

As for why P. didn't give us Mittelwerk's files:
I could find OOG reasons for that...we just don't need them. Besides that, perhaps she didn't manage to open his directory, because he is more secure.

You are right about the names, of course. Maybe that person is called "Fearghast" or something like that. But it's one of the stranger names I've come across. Laughing

Lucy:
Simko could be the one they are refering to.
I totally forgot about Janelle Granger...is she supposed to have a connection to Laird? Actually, I didn't know about her. I read the diary back when it started, then lost interest because it's just a fancy way to summarise episodes. Don't know if there was a twist to it later on or if it is still going in season 2. I'll read up on it on Lost Pedia when I find the time.
