I know this might sound a bit weird but has anyone tried

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
opium or opium war

Seems to fit with the countries and it was used as a remedy for sore tongues in years gone by lol, bit of a strong remedy I guess.

Anyway, might be worth a try

I'm all for another run at connecting the dots gaphically. I've only seem one example, there are many other ways to do this. Recall "picto dot' was a very poor representation of its subject. What do you call a smiley with its tongue hanging out? Razz

different tack?

Thought about native languages and preserving them led me to http://webworld.unesco.org/imld/ International Mother Language Day and then on to try

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Initiative b@bel

no luck Crying or Very sad , now locked out as I also tried

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
babelfish and protolanguage (as one word) before checking the thread...

btw has anybody?

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
tried anagraming the initials of the native languages of all the countries to find a question? Seemed promising at first glance but perhaps too many native language alternatives to be sure (I don't think I spotted it in the posts, sorry if so Embarassed )

Here are todays "Not" hits lick, lap and taste bud. I am now just going to throw the kitchen sink at this card, it seems to follow a logic that is either so simple or beyond Riemann or Shuffled in depth Bang Head Sigh

I tried the back to basics simple approach. No luck so far but
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
What links all the countries - on the card they're All Black.
If that is correct it points to New Zealand.
Going native could then point to Maoris, Mother Tongue could be Haka.
Both incorrect but would appreciate someone double checking.

Hope this isn't a blind alley I'm going down but if it is, its always nice to have some company Laughing

Grizy,
You lost me from the beginning. How does 'black' point to New Zealand? Confused

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I assume Grizzy is referring to the All Blacks, the name of New Zealand's national rugby team.

Grizy, would you like to give a link to the traditional war dance (I don't know what it's called exactly)?

Can we get a confirmed list of countries as counted all the countries on the card and came up with a total of 25 and we are working on the assumpion of 29, I think somewhere along line line we compicated this card. It looks like we will be getting ready for a hard kicking session once we all figure out the solve on this one Laughing Laughing (Still sore from Broadside & The Earths Destiny)

If this has already be touched upon feel free to trout away Laughing

I have the list as:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Albania, Angola, Austria, Brazil, Chad, Ecuador, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, French Guiana, Georgia, Guatemala, Ireland, Israel, Japan, Jordan, Laos, Liberia, Mauritania, Netherlands, New Caledonia, Oman, Russia, Somalia, South Korea, Spain, UK, USA, Uzbekistan.

That gives 29. Some are hard to spot because they are adjacent to other countries but separated by a thin line.

Some say that the Federated States of Micronesia is a 30th but I disagree.

Not really... who can we ask to confirm it?

There's definitely at least 29. No question about that. I think there's a 30th, Micronesia, but that seems to be a minority view - there are certainly good reasons to exclude it (though I reckon there are better ones to include it).

There's a spreadsheet somewhere on this thread, but I can't find it now Sad The phone code list on the previous page is pretty close but left out French Guyana.

No-one's so far come up with a way of linking the countries that a) covers all of them and b) doesn't require some countries to be on the card that aren't.

That suggests the important feature isn't the countries themselves but some or other letter we can draw from each of them, presumably to make an anagram. A very long anagram. The word 'language' comes up a lot.

Edit: Oops - too so long to post that Doublecross beat me to it!

Would someone please explain to me just *what* England, Scotland, and Wales are, if they're not individual countries? And, is Ireland not a part of the UK? And, should we be ignoring Alaska, even though it's a *state*?

I'm not comfortable with our current list. Sad

England, Scotland and Wales make up the UK, Ireland is broken up into 2 areas 1) Northern Ireland (which is part of the UK) and 2) Southern ireland which is its own seperate.

So i think we should class England & Ireland as the British Isles
