re: hole2 pic (polar)

I tried matching up the polar version of the hole2 pic with the

I don't know if it really helps at all - thought maybe the "elephant trunk" through the center would match up with some bit of island geography. I was exploring the significance of a round image coupled with a

- but the ying yang, and Dharma logo / I ching symbols are all candidates for "matching" the hole2 pic as well.

Edit - removed VERY SPOILERIFIC attachment and added spoiler tags. PLEASE EVERYONE remember, not ALL PLAYERS are caught up to the US! Please keep all game spec IN-GAME (i.e. things NOT RELATED to the TV show!) - celina63

Come on, do you really think you have to use polar coordinates on a gif after the mild challenges you've had so far?
That seems completely out of the blue. Looks vaguely like an elephant, but so does every tenth cloud or something...
(and yes, I was thinking you were seeing a yin-yang there...had no clue what you were talking about regarding the elephant)
I think this is much simpler, but I have no better idea right now. Embarassed

I agree, there is absolutly no reason to be projecting the image like this and it is leading people (on several boards) down the wrong path.

And my opinion is that is is Candle riding an elephant with The Numbers tatooed on its butt.

Maybe we're supposed to spell out the file name and then look for anagrams.

Ok..

The suit was Headless

The image is Faceless

Is this now directing us to the supposed 'Alvar Hanso' image behind the headshot on the TV Commercial page?

Q9ALS2002

QIALSTB?

QIXALS2002?

Q9 = 9 x 1/4s? = 2 1/4.. Which'd be 2.25 ALS 2002, 25th February 2002 Alvar Last Seen?

Is it that silly ROT13 or Rot 16 or whatever again?

Obes, dude...I have no clue what you are talking about! Laughing
I mean before that thing with the bullfrog, not even then.
Was that the intention?

Scratch that. Now I get it except for
QIALSTB?

The idea with the quarters was nice.
If we agree on the "als2002" part we should figure out what "q9" is supposed to mean. Apart from that Chinese symbol stuff someone already said. Not sure what that is.

Well, there is absolutly no reason to be solving clues in any particular way, until you find the way that is correct. Is the correct solve for every clue always readily apparent? When you see a string of binary, sure, feed it into a translator, but for less obvious things you have to hunt around and try some stuff. I'm not saying this polar projection is on the right track, but what else has anyone come up with so far? The point is to provoke discussion.

As far as this projection goes, if someone showed me that a perfect pattern of rays was a frequent result of polar projections then I would find it a lot less compelling. In trying to "solve" a clue you are often trying to bring order out of disorder, so when something like the rays appears it catches my attention. Just like when a string of meaningless numbers fed into an ASCii translator produces meaningful text.

On a lot of other boards people are banging their heads again and again into a few stupid ideas - I am glad we are moving forward here and trying new ideas.

Masking?

When I see a monochrome array of pixels, I think "mask". Perhaps there's some other 3x2 image out there that we should overlay this onto (or subtract this from)?

How about Joop's picture from the LEP page? My guess is it'll show a creepy human head with Joop's facial features.. but who knows.

Whew, that makes a lot of anagrams! I didn't see anything that screamed "solution!" to me (maybe someone else does?) but I did see "Hanso downs twin tale quot" - which I'm sure is nonsense, as it'd require adding in an "e" to make "quote", but it reminded me of the Gary Troup book (a "twin tale"... Heading back on the path to oblivion just for a second... is it so hard to fathom that the polared image is just a misshapen Hanso Foundation logo? Both have the basic curvature in the center, and the only thing the polared image is missing is the circle.

I've attached a picture that will hopefully explain my point better. Oh, note that my MSPaint skills are lacking. Very Happy

This is pretty wild spec... but what if we have to look for something that would be in that circle?

I get a different number for counting the dots: 12222122823. (This is looking only at the row of dots in the upper right, which looks more like a message than anything else in the image, and treating each clump of contiguous dots as a unit.) My first thought was "phone number"—1-222-212-2823—but there is no 222 area code.

Still, I'd like to know how the person who came up with that got the idea in the first place...
I bow to the person who designed that thing, if it turns out to be the right path. This must be very tough to do, I imagine.
I have to admit, the rays are intriguing...

I'm trying some more stuff in a minute. Not exactly sure what, though.

Maybe 1-212-222-2823? Anyone want to try calling?

Never mind - please ignore me!! The number appears to be out-of-game - please don't call and bother someone who's not in-game!
