Heh. I think i figured this one out a little bit.

The small mashed up image (i0) was figured out (Y) on 18-May-2006 08:42 on the UnFiction forums (U) by Domster (user 10364).

So, apparently there is something yet to be discovered about the following two images, or the guy (lostme) is just a little slow at checking the boards. Wink Anyway, its cool there is a discussion about this site. I first saw it a while ago and have been wondering what the story was behind it.

Okay, below are the two images. I'll look into where on the forums they're from.

Right, as someone mentioned before, they do appear to be just shots from the first page of here and Slashdot. What on earth is there that we have to solve? Is there a particular code we can derive from them?

One last thing.

i2 was solved by me (at least I think it was Shocked ) the other day, so the PM isn't keeping too close an eye on proceedings by the looks of it...

The slice of picture matches up with the sos-dan site, not slashdot Wink .

As far as i2 goes, I dont know if anything is solved yet. Like, we copied out what was in the animated gif...
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Everyone is doing it well
Hence record ensured
Done without broken counts
If you hoping of some hint to find him, these must look past skin deep
Smash each five px, you shall all find it
I have to figure it still means something. Like we've been smashing together every five pixels to form the above picture slices, but its not like it lead to much so far.

sos-dan, pardon, not slashdot.

The first one was solved, though, apparently, by just working out to put them together... this is all very confusing.

I'm still not sure what to make of this game. I like the ambiguity but everything so far seems to have been a bit hit and miss. As if it's luck of the draw if you solve something or not, as opposed to skill.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Smashing maybe just refers to "smashing togheter", rather than breaking?
Also "broken count" maybe means decimal numbers and "skin deep" could refer to the "skin" of the site, or similiar?

Also, I don't suppose you got a location on where the image for that login was located, or anything else from the HTML source, guset? It sure hasn't happened to me. Sounds like major progress. Did you do anything special to make it happen? can you replicate it?
No it was an actual login popup, the only thing I did was entering the code as usual. Though there is a chance that it's my browser that just screwed up, because upon closer inspection I noticed that the page has got an actual FTP server (and IRC server) open, sorry.

I've messed about with both 'smashed together' images in photoshop - levels, channel splitting, channel mixing, etc - and nothing stands out.

Heh. Me neither. I'm almost looking at it from a perspective of a educational project; "What does it take to get someone on the internet to enter a code every 99 minutes?" If that's the case, he's been stringing us along for a while now using little more than a decrementing counter and some flashy AJAX coding.

I'm thinking broken count refers to the timer hitting 0:00. Back when I first saw this on slashdot a while ago, I noticed that the counter occasionally ran out. foundme used to post with a sig saying something to the effect of "dont let the timer run out again! help push the buttons..." I've been watching the site via RSS for a while, and the count rarely goes below 60 min now.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The slices in i1.gif are exactly 5 pixels wide.

I should hope that this isn't the actual solution to this checkpoint.

And as for i2.gif, I've noticed that the characters are arranged in three rows of 6 and a row of three. And their english sounds purposefully bad.

Don't forget each of the a_.gif files are 5 pixels wide too.

Also, I take it I'm not the first to see the correlation between the leftmost decimal number and the "completness" of the grid after entering the code. Like, right now it says about 3.10 and three and one thenth columns are filled in.

Just entered the code and got two keys (3&4) + the "Are you him ?" and now the "map" has almost vanished, the only thing in the box is 21 horizontal bars on the left side, after going north I entered the code again and 4 keys and the box now contains 24 bars instead, it seems to be filling up kolumn by kolumn from top to bottom.

Ok, so we got the stats to left=completness(80/n perhaps?), middle=room/location and right=countdown.
Now about those keys and the first question probably needs an answear too?

That's true! Stupid of me to not think about that.
