[SPEC] So what about Jason?

When reading this, I though it was awfully suspicious that these two junior librarians came up when more manpower was needed (in case someone else posted the same somewhere back in December, go you). Unfortunately for me, I finished reading all of the backstory shortly after Miranda was revealed to be ... well, not the Miranda we were expecting.

However, now I hate to tar someone with "guilt by association," but where does Jason fit into all of this? Remember, it was super helpful that they had one male and one female librarian to split Kurt and Violet up (recall the multiple times each said they missed talking to the other?). So, is Jason just a guy whose name I'm tarnishing because he was hired at the same time with a known (and now, apparently dead) murderess? Or is he another plant? If he's a plant ("I thought your kind was called a fruit"), who's plant is he? Third Power? Recons? Brotherhood? Sente (keep an eye on his daughter)?

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
<TIAG>You don't generally introduce a character unless you plan to use them somehow in order to advance the plot. Okay, Jason could be a red herring (I thought he was going to be the supicious one ... until he couldn't account for his whereabouts during the murder (thank you Murder, She Wrote and Perry Mason)). He may be a future victim. "Did you ever think that maybe [he was] meant to be the plucky comic relief?" Still, the question remains: what is the purpose of this guy? He's shown up more than a few times for him just to be a cardboard cutout character.</TIAG>

Just stirring the pot a little while we wait to find out what is inside the bag ("NOTHING! ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! Stupid! You so STUPID!").

*men in white suits drag e_nygma away from the computer*

Folks, we apologize. E_nygma has not been skipping his medication, which prevents him from randomly quoting from movies. We apologize for the inconvienence ... aw crap, he got away again. $*@%!!

I would disagree, the game is trying to create an alternative world rather than a series of plot point. There have been plenty of stories in the sentinal just providing background (and it's crucial to do this) without affecting the main strory.

But he's probably eveeeeel.[/quote]

If I was feeling a bit sharper today, I'd come up with some sort of brilliant gag culminating with the pun 'Jason and the ARGonauts', but sadly it's not to be.

PS he is clearly evil. No, not because he had anything to do with the 3P or the Cube - all librarians are evil. Statement of fact, that.

It is true we've seen people mentioned in the Sentinel that have nothing to do with the story. It is also true that those characters (Alejo Jackson, Myra Champaign, etc) have not encountered our allies in any way that was reported to us. Yes, we chatted with Alejo, but he has not, to my knowledge, directly interacted with Violet, Scarlett, or any member of the CRT (I suppose Tippy might have, but we don't know that).

<TIAG>
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
As such, people such as Alejo and Myra are cardboard cutouts, albeit perhaps 3 dimensional cutouts. So far, they don't really matter to the story except very tangentially (RFD throws a concert so we can play with the police, or we talk to Alejo to get info on Cyrus).

What's the difference between Alejo and say Aiko? What we do can affect Aiko (obviously). As a consequence of how we can affect Aiko, she can affect our allies and, by proxy, us. So far, we have seen no evidence of our ability to change Alejo's situation, or any of the other cutouts, in any meaningful way. Okay, so RFD isn't doing any more free concerts ... that doesn't count.

While people have been introduced to give the story depth and interest, characters we OR our allies don't interact with are the equivalent of wallpaper.

</TIAG>

Violet has interacted with Jason, so he's more than just a Generic (he has a name after all) ... maybe a B-class character at this point. However, he doesn't have the substance a B-class character should have. What's his deal?

P.S. Everyone should go read Jasper Fforde (or as Scott would say, Jasper fForde ... Scott, you REALLY should go read him ... I mean, how often do you get an author whose name starts with Ff?).

<IRRELEVANT> Jasper Fforde! Yay!! I went to the Fforde Ffestival last year for my birthday. It was so much fun. Going on an open-top bus tour of Ffordian Swindon was......bizarre. The fancy dress party/auction was fab - I bought a cuddly dodo, and marshmallows to feed it with Very Happy </IRRELEVANT>

She might be. We just don't know about it yet.

Can't vouch for the evilness of librarians, but vegans who did archaeology degress and then became archivists instead are wierd (this assumption is based solely on my sister).

I hadn't realized that Jason was a fruit - kinda throws the idea that they were put there to break up Kurt and Violet. Or maybe they weren't sure which way Kurt was 'oriented.' Smile Maybe he can do something for Violet's hair . . . Wink

[Spec] Maybe... Jason got the job as a librarian and noticed violet looking at/researching the granier diary... then he told the 3p who got miranda/caroline to take the job... it was so quick it seemed like they they joined at the same time[/spec]

or maybe I'm spending slightly too much time in the library myself, doing revision, and I'm going slightly crazy... one of the two...

Her mask only slips when she's playing poker - it may look like her Poker Face, but it's actually THE VISAGE OF EEEEVIL.

Today... one of these lucky contestants will win his or her weight in fish...

Ahhhh, red snapper! Mmmmm! Very tasty!

God, I love that movie. Everyone here, go find UHF and watch it, now!

IRRELEVANCY ENDS HERE

As to Jason?
Probably just as innocent as a lost puppy.
If he was 3P, why wait so long to act?
What use would he be to them now?
