Besides a Bar code

How about DNA, I noticed it also looks like a DNA file. Don't know what it gets us though. Maybe the Q9 is a DNA gene?

albeit an incomplete one, with the rest of it coming in another incomplete image for overlay or something

all this speculation about hidden words in fairly normal glare lines and dharma symbols and maps in a for-no-good-reason polarized (or whatever it's called) version of the image seem unnecessary

so far, this game hasn't included anything that complicated, or even close to it

they're catering to cleverness more than serious programming and whatnot knowledge

I completely agree with you. i think people are trying way to hard, with the "tilting of the picture" or something really bizarre. I don't think the team making this is making it THAT involved. just my thought.

it still is great to see people really getting into this and trying to "crack the code" and being imaginative and what not...i think we'll find out tomorrow after the SEASON FINALE! im so excited.

I think that we are all starting to see things that aren't there. It is amazing how many articles have items that could be, if we try hard enough, related to this clue.

We're trying too hard. I'm going to try going back to the beginning of this clue and start over.

Happy hunting!

Ok, I didn't make it back to the beginning.

Some people have mentioned that when you go to hole2.thehansofoundation.org and open the history and click on the hole2.thehansofoundation.org then next to the Windows Explorer symbol they have either seen a little square box or a capital letter. I had the letter A but now all I have is a single box.

Does anyone know if that is normal? or is it possible that we are getting one letter at a time of a clue? Please don't scold me if that is somewhere else. I've seen it talked about it but I didn't know what they meant at the time.

Thanks.

I tried viewing the image a different way...

Since the Speaker said we're not viewing the image correctly,
I printed out 2 copies and superimposed one on top of the other
only one was in the opposite direction (face down) and I held it
up to a light.

If you move it around so the hairlines match up, you can
kind of see the word TWIN followed by an exclamation point
or question mark. It looks like a hand written Magic Marker type
font.

My process was very, mechanical, but possibly someone can
replicate/improve upon/disprove my attempt by superimposing with some paint program or better software?

Edit--On revisiting it definitely looks like the last char is question mark.
Further Edit:
In any case, it seems apparent that if superimposing the same image upon itself (backwards) isn't the answer, then there must be another image out there somewhere that is the correct "completion", but in the
end, I'll bet that the text in the image is indeed "TWIN?" since this
makes sense with other clues and the context.

I just brought 2 copies of the image into theGimp and played around with superimposing one on top of the other at varying rotations and nothing is jumping out at me.

This is a bug in Internet Explorer due to the improper formatting of hole2. For whatever reason, IE grabs random characters from other pages in the history as tooltips when the page in the history lacks proper formatting (ie, <html>, <body>, etc), as hole2 does. This also explains why different people get different things when they mouseover hole2 in the history.

Right, the bottom few lines of the image look quite different from the rest of the image (i.e. much more frequent white marks...) If you extract the bottom line and extrapolate it, you get what looks very much like a bar code especially on the right. However it doesn't seem to be a barcode because there are too many widths of bars.

I'm wondering if the horizontal size of either each dark bar, or each white space is encoding the message.

Attached is the image incase anyone else wants to try their luck cos I'm stumped!

Possibly Morse Code? Could those bars be like the dashes and dots?

Could somebody check out newspaper ad?

Somebody on one of the other boards mentioned that in the LOST newspaper ad today Charlie is wearing a T-shirt with a black-and white picture of a bison. I have no idea which newspapers have this ad. (The poster mentioned the LA Times.) Could somebody please look at this ad to tell if it's worth pursuing as a possible 2nd part of our picture?

Thanks in advance

Has anyone tried masking out any bits of the file contents?

Perhaps if the upper bit of every byte was masked out of the Gif, something in the image would become more apparent? Or possibly, some chars currently in the image would become a comprehensible text string. I tried "strings" of the binary gif and there were no likely results, however, if a bit were masked out, that might change.
