Grabbed hold of Anna at lunchtime today and convinced her to spend some time working on this new Granier page with me. I'm posting the text now so you can chew on it. Anna and I are a little stunned, really. Not to mention worried. What have we found here? Are we in danger because we have it?

29 April 1736
At last, stole several minutes with Edwina in the great refectory at about the third hour after dawn when my lord's men had broken their fast and gone on their way. She, sighing mightily, declared that she did not wish for my company. I would not brook this and held her fast demanding she should explain to me why she had disdained my society and my bed these past days.

She, sighing again, said: "I cannot speak the words. For then, surely, you would disdain me."

I assured her that this could never be. She, smiling, asked if I could not let the matter bide, pretend that all that had been between we two had never been. I declared that I could not. "Then," she said, "I will confess the matter to you, and you will no longer wish for my society."

So saying, she made this speech: "My lord," she said, "I know only a little, but what I know I can no longer hide, with all that has been between us. Your master..." she paused there and tears started in her eyes. "Your master I believe does not wish that our experiments here should benefit only the city. To be blunt, my lord, I have been sent here to ensure that certain matters, certain elements of knowledge should be kept only for her, and for the group of loyal scholars she has formed. She wishes the power for herself. To do what, I know not."

I could not conceal my horror and alarm at this. Ah, wanion. That such things should be. I wished to look upon her but could not. I cast my eyes downward and muttered some words of consolation but made my good-byes sharply. I must think on this and these pages are no longer secure enough to do so.


As expected, the speech is the part of the document that had been altered - here's the speech as it was on the forged page

Now the fun can begin as to who "she" is.
- Granier's master (mentor?) in 1736 (1 BC); gives us a time range, mild implication of at least 20 years older than Granier at the time
- Knows Edwina Mounting (50 yr old mathematician, but can be sent by "her")
- *puts on his Capt. Obvious hat* Whatever was learned during this stint, seems to have directly led to the end of the War, one way or another.

I really should be working so I'm just going to leave this be and let others continue to hypothesize.

 		Maybe I'm just missing something, but why is this so important? We've found out that hundreds of years ago, someone was scheming about the cube. So bloody what?

How about Vianne Adamek? She became master of the academy in 1715.

i'm guessing the importance is that 'she' will lead us to the group that actually stole the cube - before the 3p could get to it

 		Going over the Granier diary pages again, the following parts seem interesting:
Granier's diary 17 March 1736 wrote:

So it seems "The Master" was involved in the Natural Sciences at some stage. I also find the "fate of all the people within one dozen miles of here rests with her" bit interseting too.
Granier's diary 19 March 1736 wrote:
I visited the mining works this day....They have extracted sufficient of the material for my Master's experiments

Sounds like whats going on at Viendenbourg to me. The Receda cube wasnt discovered until 1744, 8 years after this. But maybe the material being dug up is what was used to create it, and its existence was hidden until 1744.
Granier's diary 3 April 1736 wrote:
We are to select the subjects for the experiment ourselves. The thing is dreadful. We have been given a list of suitable persons, given such matters as health, strength and height.

Which implies that whoever is selected to carry out/be subjected to the experiment runs the risk (or possibly the certainty) of injury or death, hence the tough decision.

Granier's diary 6 April 1736 wrote:
The peace with Viehattle is disintegrating. There have been incursions and breaches of treaty. Our spies indicate that Viehattle may even now be allying with Anjsbourg.

Tension in the War, which ended the following year (1737), and AFAIK was the end of these cities too.

Granier's diary 8 April 1736 wrote:
Experiment conducted today. An awful spectacle. I have no energy to write more this night.

Granier's diary 13 April 1736 wrote:
She (Edwina Mountling, expedition partner) tells me that she has taken many useful readings which go to prove what we have long suspected: the entire place will be destroyed.


Apologies if any of this has been mentioned or specced upon before, but i thought id gather it all up here. I dont remember being so intrigued by the Granier pages when i first read them (maybe i never bothered when they first came out!)

[EDIT] P.S. do we know of any other Masters of the Academy besides Aetiant Taversen(443BC(1294)-?), Victor Mardian(? - 23BC(1714)), Vianne Adamek (22BC(1715) - ?) and Sente (263AC(2000) - current).
Vianne does seem like the only likely Academy Master at the time of Granier's diary entries, but she would have to have been Master for over 20 years. In any case, Granier could be referring to a completely different Master.

 		The 19th of march entry certainly could be about the creation of the cube or could just be minerals used with the cube to do these experiments. I know it wasn't discovered till a few years later but it doesnt mean it wasnt officially discovered till then.

So natural sciences, Bees, mining of some unknown mineral, tensions with rival cities/countries mounting, immoral experiments on the local populace....yep I have no idea how they all link!!! Very Happy

 		forgive me, I'm 'new' as far as the diary is concerned, but don't we already know who grainer's mentor was?

Im pretty sure that this has never been officially confirmed, but people have suspected it, and it seems to be the MOST likely situation. However, from a TINAG perspective, it doesnt seem inconsequential that Granier never mentions his Master's real identity. MC deliberately made this piece of information unclear, so Vianne Adamek, whilst the most likely suspect, may not actually be the Master and MC could blow our minds with the Master's real identity at some point.

 		Yes, this all has been known before. Vianne Adamek is Granier's master, he gave her the house which was passed down in the Adamek family that has the Third Power sign in it, and I'll start reposting the relevant threads and spec before the discussion takes any needless turns. Smile

Please see this page from the Academy for a history of the Academy, the Masters, Vianne Adamek, the Conservatoire (which is almost definitely not the group newly mentioned), and other useful notes. See also the War on the Wiki - has good links to articles as well.

 		after reading both those links to violets blog, (and having read the entire diary yesterday) I have to agree with beglee, while it's probably safe to assume that Adamek was his mentor, nowhere does it actually come out and say that..

and now comes the question, why did Sente marry an Adamek?
