Woooo! It arrived! Finally, proof that posting stuff from work does eventually get despatched... stoopid mailroom...
Hope you enjoy it - best £1 I've ever spent, that!

That "small metal thingmy" looks very much like a 'slug trap' that my parents bought me ages ago.. much like a bear trap/man trap, but smaller. I guess you could use it to catch mice or somesuch if you really wanted to.

I had no idea a quid went quite so far these days.
Oh, and for future reference, NEVER trust your postroom with anything even remotely urgent. The franking/postmark thingy on it was dated.......yesterday.

Heh, yes indeed. After further investigation it did turn out to be a miniature beartrap device I stuck a few pics on flickr to demonstrate and it's pretty cool
Cheers Spooble

I am happy to announce that Gibbet is a Genius (as if you didn't know already!)
My randomness was.... a Tally Cube!
(a rubik's cube arranged to spell the letters TALLY, each on a different face)
It is sooo cool! Thanks Gibbet.
(pics will follow asap)

Well, it's official - Postrooms truly suck arse. I shall be having words with The Boy tomorrow. Words involving pointy sticks.
btw - that did only cost me £1. The joys of my local car boot!

fFiera sent me this really cool handful of glittery ooooze! With Hello Kitty trapped inside, excaliming "-help I'm drowning! *glub glub*"!

This is an official U-M hospital gift shop thing!
I am also quick to point out: fFiera's signature looks like it could be some puzzle scribe's.
So I had a bit of fFun, in a little story I like to call "Hello Kitty, Goodbye Ooooze"
(The little plastic stars are neato too )
Thanks fFiera!!

I must apologise to Enigmaster for being quite so rubbish - my excuse is that I've been swamped with work - however, I did get the below puzzle safe and sound. Thanks!

You're welcome, and thanks for the great story! My sister (who helped me pick it out) and I giggled muchly over it. I'm very glad you're enjoying it and hope you appreciate the many, many hours of labor I put into wrapping it.
