[UPDATE] Terrini Blog update: The “box” arrived! (5/22)

Big update over at Sue's blog.

The "box" arrived!

I just ripped it open and took pictures of everything. Even... this letter Charles sent me. It's embarrassing to show the personal stuff, but I am sick to death of people hiding things from each other.

John and I are poring through all this but we're all in this together. Please let us know what you think we should do next.

Plus 3 letters, a photo, another clay widget, and writing on the outside of the envelope...

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
As mentioned in one of the letters, the photo is of a location at U of Washington, near the Sylvan Theater. Other photos of the campus show matching trashcans

transcript of the writing on the envelope attached. There's two words I can't make out, indicated by ???

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Cutting a long story short, it looks like we have to do the reversing spell (antipode) many times to weaken the spirit.

We also need to get someone to go and rake through that bin...?

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
We find out that we need to do a spell to reverse the magic, and in the same week, Kevin sends the Wakeful Agents little clay widgets that he happened to find... Coincidence?

Are we going to find out what the magic words are, and then have to all break the widgets in unison?

I think the missing words are caches and went. Also i think the last word on the first line is explain and instead of trying it could be lying.

My interpretation is attached.

Well, here's my reading of the envelope. Nothing radically different. I think it says "dying" not "lying", along with a couple of other minor differences.

A couple of other notes:
One definition of an antipode is the point on the opposite side of the earth from a given point. I don't think that's what Charles is talking about in his notes, but just in case, I did a quick check of the anitpode of the University of WA campus.
If the 1st point is the U of WA Sylvan theater, that's at about
47.65N by 122.31W
So the antipode would be:
47.65S by 57.69E
Which is somewhere in the Indian Ocean, SW of South Africa.

I got the coordinates of the Physics building at UWA from here:
www.sundials.org/conference/1998/1998conf.pdf
I'm assuming that anything on campus will be close enough.

Here's a link with info about calculating antipodes:
http://geography.about.com/library/faq/blqzantipode.htm

I think this probably rules out this definition of anitpode. Instead, it seems to mean "counter spell" here.

I'm pretty sure the antipode relates to the reverse spell, based on other text. and I suspect the sntipode will involve us all having to break the clay pieces Kevin is sending out at the moment, taking a picture and posting it...but could very well be wrong.

I am a Wakeful Agent in Seattle who has been offline for a couple weeks (was active during the first few days then got busy at work). I am not above sorting through trash heaps. Looking through the posts to figure out what I need to do...

There's a photo on the blog of a trashcan near the Sylvan Theater at the U of Washington. The bottom of the can is circled, so I would guess there's something taped to the bottom. Let us know if you find anything.

Perhaps it's time to get some work done, then. Kevin's got a slew of these things, so I imagine if we're doing this "wrong", he can send us a few hundred more...Smile

I'm waiting for my mail, but as soon as I get that sucker in my hand, I'm busting it.

Hmm... I wonder if a video would work better...Smile

So I went to the Sylvan theatre. It is an extremely calm glade on the UW campus. The pictures I saw online don't do it justice. There was a guy doing Tai Chi on the grass, to complete the picture. The trash can in question is at the north end of the glade, and unsurprisingly there was a zip-lock bag underneath the trash can. It contained two pages, one StudioCypher postcard, and several handwritten post-it notes.

The postcard reads:
Code:
ATG
   Extinct on...
Cat in the Hat. p14.  Word 3  [Written backwards to be read in a mirror]
     WOW signal, 3rd char
   ... Mauritius
     2.7182818
                                                  TAG

Attached are the images of the other contents.

Well done krispy2.

I am guessing that the postcard may give us a code to type into the emergency page because of the ATG TAG.

Some progress...spoiled for your pleasure...

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The "dodo" was extinct on Mauritius. The 3rd character in the WOW signal is "Q". The number is the constant "e"

I think I have it.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

'fear' is the word from "The Cat in the Hat" (thank you Amazon Search inside this book!)

Putting "doraefQdoe" in the /emergency page gives you:

Stanford University

Cecil H. Green Library

Bing Wing – 5th floor

Alfred M. Bender Reading Room

bottom shelf

"A Civil Action"

Anyone live around Stanford?

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Huh. According the the Stanford website, it's the Albert Bender reading room, not Alfred

And 'A Civil Action' looks to be a videotape.

I'm in Southern California... I'm out.
