[spec] Goings-on in Aglaura, NJ

If this is all trout, please feel free to slap me silly with it.

Konamouse asked about possible reasons for wanting to demolish the Library.

I started thinking maybe something is buried in the ground underneath the library - Possibly something to do with Fard's Moorish Science Ashram he had in the 70s.

So then I read and found the library was built in 1927, but closed in the 30s. It didn't re-open until 1983. So who knows what was going on inside that library for 50 years - especially when Fard came to town.

I started doing some more research, and I come across this:

http://www.everything2.com/index.pl?node_id=673804

Now here is some interesting tidbits:

Quote:

In 1978 a radical by the name of Wali Fard purchased 200 acres in the Pinelands and established the Moorish Science Ashram. This Ashram (or travel cult) would find itself home to a brother and sister,Frank and Althea Dobbs. Two undergraduates at the University of Texas who had come up with a new science called "cognitive chaos" which attempts to map the brains thought processes based on "The Fractal Universe". At any rate this radical concept ended up confusing and pissing off the administration at Princeton and saw the brother and sister ejected from the faculty. Having had a history of being involved with travel cults the siblings found comfort in the Ashram which lead them to set up shop and continue their research at Ongs Hat. As the Dobbs twins proliferated their research so did the community at Ongs Hat grow. The Ashram became home to an assortment of people ranging from scientists to families and general drop-outs. As the Dobbs twins continued there research they were soon joined by two scientists (already a part of the community) Harold Acton with experience in various computer sciences (hacking, programming, networking ect.) and Martine Kallikak a machinist and handy man. From this new union of concept and technology emerged some major breakthroughs and life altering events.

The Dobbs twins? Any relation to Pat J. Dobbs, the current Mayor of Aglaura?

And then there was this:

Quote:

Supposedly all of these technologies came together and helped the residents of the community to open up a portal that led to either another world entirely or a second, alternate earth.

A portal to another world? An alternate earth? What if the spot this happened was at the site of the current library? What if this the reason for getting rid of the building is to either cover this up, or get to something that's hidden beneath it?

My spec:

Aglaura has always been close to the mystical 'otherworld'. The world of dreams, wishes, faeries and other mystical beings and happenings.

Marzent's boss, the Don, wants to close this 'nearness'.
The more technology is used and the less ties with the mystical, occult and historical a place has, the more solid the barrier between the worlds becomes.

He is planning to shut out the influence of the mystical world by fanatically modernizing Aglaura, cutting off one more place from access to the fantasy realm. Maybe even hurting or killing the mythical beings.

From what happend in CTW1 I'm more inclined to think he wants control of the library, not to destroy it. It might help to read atleast the last month of CTW1's activities to understand this. It also makes it clear why Sarah is so concerned about the library being destroyed.

Here's the URL for what happened in August:

Or start at the start:

Yes, but we can't assume anything from CTW1 carries over at this point. Would Don even know any of that in this timeline? We know he was the "aspect of War" in CTW1 and had tried to overpower the other aspects (The other 8 of the Nine) in that timeline. Perhaps he's the same aspect in this timeline, but a different one of the Nine is the protaganist.

We just don't know yet at this point.

I agree that we don't know what from CTW1 is doing to apply to CTW2 which is why I've sometimes hesitated to mention something from the first part. My speculation was that while Sarah might not understand why she wants os much to save the library also Don doesn't know why he's so adiment to posess it.

Right now I'm looking at what's happening as an extension of what went before. If not, why wouldn't they just tell another story?

I'm feeling the same responses to the residents of Aglaura as I did before. I started off my correspondence with Bruce by sending him a letter where I lectured him. Got the same urge to do that now. Smile

Since the storyline deals with memories seeping through consciousness I presume it's the same timeline.

I think the idea of switching archetypes would be valid if we saw Sarah trying to get the library shut down and Don fighting to keep the historic building. I guess time will tell. Smile

I agree that the story will probably be somewhat the same as in CTW1, though it's going to have an added twist of some sort, for example, the prevalent dreams going on involving fire that we've seen.

I wasn't saying that the Don WOULDN'T be the aspect of War any more, I'm saying he might not be the Villain this time around and a different one of the nine is setting the stage this time around.

[Spec] Perhaps Diane is now one of the nine and is slowly taking over Marzent from the inside? It's a long shot, I know, as she's seeing Bruce right now, but that still wouldn't rule out Blackmail and things along those lines...

Ok, I see what you're saying. That would make for a very interesting confrontation between Dale and Diana - with Bruce once again in the middle.

My guess right now is the Diana has been around Don and is being influenced too much by him. Most of what I remember of her from CTW1 is that I didn't like her then and I don't seem to like her now.

Yes, I know she was dead. But we still knew things about her and wasn't there some description early on where she and Dale argued? Isn't that the scene that's in the graphic comic?

Just refreshed my memory by reading the part called "Dale's Diary" on http://melangerie.com/ctw/#dalesdiary
