I had the answer, just didn't win.

What I was using was the idea of abbreviated binary. Using the blacks as 0, the whites as 1, purples were made of the numbers on both sides (If before was a white and after a black, the purple was a 10), blues were the value of the number after and reds before. It certainly would make for a very complicated problem. There were 130 bits if you did it that way. Use ASCII to encode a message...hmmm a definitive possibility. Geeky, perplexing, and complex.
