[WTF?] at.org

This is an interesting one.

I found this on Digg, where it was propelled to the top page. I looked at the comments and realized it SCREAMED ARG.

at.org

Now, here's a quote from the Digg comments:

theone3 wrote:
There is some javascript in there that takes some HTML, splits it up, and then show a random passage from the HTML in the form that you can see there. (or something like that. I'm awful with JS.)

Source document (Comments on the Society of the Spectacle, Guy Debord, 1988) is up here: http://theone3.blogspot.com

The whois has one VERY IMPORTANT part (spoilered because i don't remember if it should be or not):

Here's another big clue: SUBDOMAINS.
http://www.google.com.au/search?hl=en&hs=m8h&lr=&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&q=site:at.org
o_O
Some include http://sane.at.org/ and http://whs.at.org/ .

Again, SCREAMS ARG. Now this MAY have been posted before but the search came up with 1806 matches for "at.org." Or it may just be a random site that hosts some random pages and has a random index page. Who knows?

Digg.com link: http://digg.com/links/%40.Org

Again, sorry if this is part of another ARG or anything. I've been out of the loop for forever.

Very interesting. I find myself intrigued by the site and especially by the conspiracy theorist text (long as it may be).

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

The WHOIS data, in particular the registration and expiration dates, brings up two very interesting questions, in my mind.

1: If this IS an ARG, it had better be solved soon.
2: If this IS an ARG, it's been going for some time.

Of course, the site itself brings up one last particularly interesting question for me. Now that we have this text, now what? Although, it is true, that's the whole point behind an ARG anyway. Wink

got an e-mail back from jim. I asked wha the site was all about. He said:

Quote:
It's an enigma wrapped in a mystery, inside a riddle, duh!

Wink

Well, I'm starting to wonder if this is an ARG at all. The number of subdomains and weird (to say the least) homepage make it seem ARG-ish, but I think many- if not all- of the subdomains are real. For example, SANE (Society for the Advancement of Noncoercive Education, sane.at.org) shows up in http://acronyms.thefreedictionary.com/SANE . Maybe just another site.

But who knows? Maybe the digg entry was a plant- seems odd how someone might just stumble across it. Maybe I should fire off an email to the PM- I hate breaking the curtain, but sometimes there's no other way...

[disclaimer] Just wanted to let everyone know that even though the "riddle, mystery, enigma" quote is in my signature...I have nothing to do with at.org, to.org, or any other proposition.org that might be out there. [/disclaimer] Smile

For those who don't know, and haven't googled to find out, the quot about "riddle, mystery, enigma" is attributed to Winston Churchill. Not really how ARGish this looks to me.
