Right Brain, Right Brain, Whatcha Gonna Do... ?

Hi.

I don't quite know where to start this message...
how to broach this subject... except to dive right in:

Did I commit some offense or breach of conduct
or etiquette for these gaming sites?

Because I have felt a chill wind running through this forum,
colder than the wind blowing thru the ghost town that is now
PUSH.

I don't understand the cold-shoulder and silent treatment.

Some people are able to contribute their abilities
to solve complex mathematical formulae or to find their way
into the back doors and cracks and crawlspaces in the Internet.

That's all wonderful stuff. I admire the abilites of others
in those respects, I'm just not one of them.

What I have to offer is a very good imagination...
and a raft of experience...
and the capability of putting these things to work together.

I have 1500 pages of material
I spent hours researching before Push even started.

Of course, I didn't get the early start the ARGN gang got,
But you from ARGN were my first actual contact with PUSH
on the Web.

Lord knows, though, I admired all of you,
getting a big boost from your intelligence and humor.

But after the first question I asked in the "unforum,"
which was very pleasantly answered, btw,
I somehow failed to make a connection here.

When somebody in here complained...
that some of us weren't sharing enough...
I started posting things here,
which I also posted over at the Netscape Push Dialectics...
hoping that was okay with everybody...
[I also made posts unique to the "unforum"]

I figured the free flow of info was desirable here...
and not considered "cross-posting" or something like that,
because the best way to solve mysteries
is to get as much info out there as fast as possible
and to as many people to whom one can possibly get it.

Perhaps I was mistaken.

I'd like the gang here to know:
that large portions of my wild specs...
were drawn from things I put together...
from pretty extensive research of all aspects
of PUSH.

There's still a large number of details about PUSH
that have never been brought to light in any of the forums
that I've seen.

I was so pleased and happy
when the ARGN gang opened this place to everyone...
so I could get a chance to interact with the group here.
But it's kind of sad to feel that there's no room
in the "unforum" for my particular brand of intelligence
and humor.
And sad to think that there's only a very select group
of individuals who are allowed to enjoy the full communion
with what I perceive as the inner circle here.

I may be kind of different than many of the members here
But even SD-6 has its oddball Ops Tech Marshall Flinkman...
you know?

In the end, I guess it doesn't really matter...
Nothing I nor anyone else could have gleaned about PUSH
and its mystery(ies) figured into the final and separate puzzle.

To anyone who takes the time to read this:
Thank you for taking the time to read my comments.

pjv

PS To Ozy, Imbri, vpisteve, Di, luvinpush
and anyone who was at all friendly to me, I thank you
for that.

And Ozy, once you mentioned "Andersen" in the post
about the chess gambits, I checked into it and stumbled across
the pertinent info online, finding that you were talking about
Ian Andersen -- not the musician, of course -- but the guy
who wrote the book "Burning the Tables in Vegas," which is,
I believe, the source for Jim's ref to 62% when he was scoping
out the tables at the Versailles. That's why I offered to kiss you.
Had you not posted that, sending me in the right direction,
it might still be a mental itch for me. Thanks, again.

Whoa, where is this coming from? I don't remember anyone treating you badly here, but rest assured there is no "cold shoulder" that I'm aware of.

I've enjoyed many of your posts, but as I recall there was nothing in them for me to respond directly to; it was more of an "that's interesting!" or "that's amusing!" reaction. This is just me, mind you, I don't speak for anyone else.

If you're looking for more interaction with ARG players, I'd suggest trying to get into one of the chat rooms on IRC. #unfiction is the main one for this forum, but there are several others too. Let me know if you need more info or help getting online.

Hope you stick around, Ngajengai, there is much more to this place and this genre than Push. There are several other games that folks are working on, like search4e, noahboddy, and (coming soon) chasing the wish. I'm sure the dialog will pick back up again.

I agree with Gup. Lord knows we don't have much in the way of etiquette or formal rules that we tend to adhere to around here. Sort of a free-for-all, really, but my sense is that all contributions -- whether SPEC or SOLVE, META or just dream rambling -- is going to be appreciated by someone whether they vocalize that appreciation or not.

That is, unless you're a troll or just persistently cranky. And, no, ngajengai, I don't think you qualify as either of the above.

Usually the information just flows so fast and furious around here that most stuff just goes uncommented on. Doesn't mean it's being ignored.

My goodness! How did *this* happen? I think of you as a highly valuable member of the ARG community. Your dedication and attention to detail are qualities that hold you in good stead in these parts. But I haven't seen you around at all lately. Are you at all interested in the other games that are being played right now? I highly recommend you pre-register for chasing the wish at http://www.chasingthewish.com and get ready to join that fun with us. Also, many of us are working on the noahboddy.com game (by the former Push PMs). Jump in and join the fun, girlfriend.

Please, please join us in #unfiction chat. You're more than welcome.

I used to feel the same way until I upped my meds. Wink

Seriously, message boards are like that. The really cool people hang out on IRC, you should try it.

</indoctrination>

Really though, what Ozy said.

I must chime in and add my two cents. Very Happy

Please don't take non-response to a post as a cold shoulder. Depending on the timing, along with the amount of other new posts, a message can get lost in the shuffle.

I could also possibly attribute your feelings to just the difference of a new community finding its character, getting its sea-legs, sort of. There's always a fresh dynamic when a board/community is new.

Plus, ex-ARGN Forum members get a free order of nachos (redeemable in Vegas only). Wink

From One Newbie(?) to Another

Hey ngajengai,

I for one, seeked out your comments both here and on the netscape board during Push. I always found them to be insightful, helpful, and funny.

My impression is that you are one of many valued contributors to the genre.

I, too, admire the brainpower, experience, and know-how on this board. But, they're just not a chatty group; and it actually helps to be that way when there is a mystery afoot.

If you are a member at Live Journal to play NB, feel free to add me to your friend list, and I will reciprocate in kind. Or you can e-mail me at drizjr1SPLATyahoo.com.

Don't harbor bad feelings, they only end up sinking your own boat.
Wink

WOW...

Thank you all so much for responding
and letting me know that I AM a part of the gang!
I appreciate it.

Sometimes quietness is apparently
just a part of the personality of the forum
and I promise not to take it so personally
in the future.

Don't know what else to say.
For once, I'm actually just about speechless...
But don't worry, it'll pass! Laughing

Thanks again.

Hey Gang...

Just made it down this far to see this posting...sorry I'm chiming in late on this subject....

Ngajengai, the only problem I have with you is trying to type your name...lol...

As far as I can tell, there is no one that has been black listed, black balled, whatever you want to call it on these boards...and thank god we are able to joke around and have those occasional odd humored or multi-colored post that you, me, and others post...how dry and boring would the boards be if we didn't!!!

There are other boards around, like the Yahoo (YIKES!!) one at Noah Boddy that I personally can't stand....I read the boards faithfully looking for nuggets, but very rarely will I post on the board...why? Because I don't feel welcome there, I hate the format, and quite honestly I feel that my post would get lost in the posting shuffle on there...what a mess!

Here, I feel that the people are ....hmmm....how do I put this....maybe more refined in their posting? Very little Spamming up on topics, and when that does occur, it's usually high quality Spam...not like most at Noah Boddy...and this doesn't make us snobs or anything...maybe it just makes us a lot more enjoyable to read...but perhaps that's why you felt as you did...if I contributed in any way, I apolgise whole heartedly.

Hope you stick around!

John ~ Dark Side of the Moon

Energy

Ngajengai,

I find the energy changes on the boards all the time. It has peaks and valleys, just like regular...conversation.

I mostly post when either I've discovered something, don't understand someone else's discovery, need help fleshing out an idea, or can help someone else flesh out theirs. You and I had some interesting exchanges while playing Push, and I would definitely miss your presence around Unfiction and the Unforums!

I don't often get personal on these boards, but my issue is travel...sometimes it seems I am rarely at home! For example, yesterday I was in the pits at the Nascar Winston Cup race...this week I'm in Orlando at the IAAPA (Int'l Assn. of Amusement Parks & Attractions) trade show. I grab my computer time when I can, hence the untimely response.

I really appreciate you starting this topic. Not only did it give me a chance to explain my absences, but I believe it also encouraged others (who may have been feeling what you have) to stick around.

Looking forward to your future posts,

Dia

Hey...I'm heading down Wednesday for an event that night! You wouldn't happen to be attending the IAHA's private event at Magic Kingdom, would ya? IAHA has a booth at IAAPA...I think it's booth # 1361 in the exhibit hall. Unfortunately I'm not attending the convention itself, just flying in for the event that night and back home Thursday.

Getting Personal

Wolf:

Yes, I ordered my "social" event ticket months ago. It was supposed to be sent in the mail on Nov. 5. It never arrived, so IAAPA said to pick it up at the desk. Hopefully there won't be any problems! (Yes, the credit card WAS charged!)

Did you go to the Islands of Adventure party last year? That one rocked!

The last one I remember at the Magic Kingdom was Tomorrow Land only, and it wasn't that great except for the bus ride over where we entered via some back road Disney entrance. That was cool seeing the behind-the-scenes stuff, and entering the park next to Splash Mountain.

The Universal Studios party was awesome, too. Thought they did a better job than Disney. The IAAPA people really knew how to play the (free for us) carnival style games in the Jaws area and made off with the biggest stuffed animals. No alcohol limits either at that party...from what I remember! Since then, drink tix have been the rule.

PM me so we can share more info!

Paradise:

I wish I would have known you'd be there! I spent most of my time looking for some other friends that I never did catch up with. *sigh* It was a good time until Busch dissed me after the win. I was in Victory Lane and waited about an hour for him to get done with his interviews. I tried to congratulate him and was hoping he'd sign an 8 x 10 for me, but all I got was a dirty look. His dad wouldn't let me pet the dog, either.

P.S. I added a little avatar of me in case you recognize(d) me at one of these events. You can't really tell in the picture, but I have very long hair.
