Yay! I sent an e-mail to both the old Dale address (no response yet but Six got a bounced one)

and to James Curcio...

I wrote:
Hi Mr. Curcio,

I've been reading Chasing the Wish preview page. What is your take on Dale
Sprague's daughter Meghan remembering the tile slide game that he had only
had in his dreams? DO you think it is possible that she shared his dream,
or that... maybe it really happened in an alternate universe and he is just
psychically connected to it or something?

Thanks,
Magesteff

The reply

Mr. Curcio wrote:
Well a metaphor that may (?) apply is that of various interpretations of Quantum Mechanics. I say "metaphor" because all models are ultimately metaphors, and because I'm not a physicist so my understanding of it is probably rather liberal by their standards.

For instance- in the Everett interpretation every time a 'decision' has to be made the universe essentially splits in two. Under normal circumstances, they don't interract. But are there possible situations where there may be overlap?

I know plenty of times in my life I've experienced time 'echos,' like hearing a car going down the driveway, with no car, and then a minute later the car actually arrives.

I guess really the question is, is it easier for you to believe that it was a shared dream, an overlapping of divergent realities, or...?

The reply came PDQ too...

new email

Here is my email reply from James Curcio: (He quoted my original email... I have put them in italics.)

Quote:

First, you seem to be very much drawn to the dark side of things. The links from your website and your graphic style are very much from that genre. I have found that often people have an experience that leads them to that sort of style and was wondering what (if any) experience you had that was influencing this?

If you really want to folllow that trail the first place to look is Join My Cult!. (Look it up on Amazon.) It's a 'mostly true' story about the beginnings of a group of shall we say consciousness explorers. The actual follow up/sequel is still in the works but JMC! provides a sort of loose backstory to quite a number of other projects that are out there, if you root around.

It's kind of funny, I'm a bit of an outsider to the alternate reality game thing in a way, for the most part I've just told the true stories that were too strange for me to have made up.

Also, I think I have seen a few religious influences in your works. If it is not too forward of me, I would guess that you are pagan, or at least influenced by pagan culture in your art. Am I correct?

"Pagan" is a pretty broad term, in a manner of speaking anything non-Christian is Pagan, but in the grand scheme of things Christianity is an upstart religion that really exploded because certain political groups realized it was in their best interest to adopt it. (Around 300 AD, yeah?)

I don't think any one belief system can really account for everything. Every stance has its weakness. If there's any religious system or philosophy that seems a close approximation of how "things are," to me its probably achemical Taoism. But Taoism has its blind spots too, and too much of the yin approach especially when blended with this capitolistic culture is pretty disenfranchizing... or that's how it's seemed to me, anyhow.

But there is an aspect of the spiritual quest, or the quest for meaning (which is ultimately more important than any static solution) in all of my work, because its a central part of my life.

In this and related topics you may find a podcast interview I did recently somewhat interesting... This link is to the section of an interview I did for www.frequency23.org which hasn't yet been released (won't be for 4 days.)

http://www.joinmycult.org/media/139interview.mp3

If you want feel free to post this link on unfiction, it may prove interesting to others there too, though you didn't get it from me. Wink

(FYI I'm not a member there mainly because I know if I get sucked in I'll wind up never having time for my work...)

Finally, you seem to be very interested in the concepts of time and space. I notice your work seems to deal a lot with other times, other dimensions and the like. Do you personally think that there are other dimensions that exist along with ours? This is of

I guess the best answer I can give to this question without delving into Quantum Physics mumbo jumbo is that I've dabbled with it a great deal, and had a number of experiences which point to various interpretations. Again, if you're really curious Join My Cult! is probably a good place to start on that thread.

Re: james curcio

[edited by konamouse - no reason to do a huge long quote here.]

Halo all. I've been watching these forums for a while and curious about the whole ARG phenomenon, but I've never registered until now. I'm actually here because I started following some trails for the Chasing the Wish game I picked up on from the community I'm registered in, www.frequency23.org . I haven't ordered the comic yet, but I'm getting around to it.

Although this isn't really in game (that I know of anyway) there is some interesting stuff there. www.frequency23.org/pod has the full interview with Curcio, if anyone is interested in hearing him talk about some of these things in his own words.

Cheers!

Jimmy

Enjoy the leak.

I know I swore I wouldn't get sucked into the boards here... but I wanted to give you all a behind-the-scenes peek at a number of interviews I recently conducted for Bright Young Things, including conversations with P. Emerson Williams (co-illustrator) and Jason Stackhouse (script) of book 1. Chances are it'll be syndicated elsewhere after...

Here it is

And as with everything else on this thread I'm assuming this is OOG.

Sweet, thanks.

And yes, though we talk about the game here and try to solve things, I do believe everything here is OOG.

I know it's OOG and all. But the CTW page included in the interview is different than the printed version. "I will do one thing right." is slightly shifted.

Nothing to read into that. It was from a slightly earlier draft.

Very impressive find on the source document from the masthead/copyright page of the comic. Wink It just seemed appropriate to me, though to be honest I never expected anyone would figure out what it was from.

Anyhow... if anyone has questions related specifically to the COMIC or the production process, I'm open to fielding them here. I can't speak to anything else though- I keep to what I'm good at.
