Okay, response from TPTB about "posting" stuff from the comic book.
The publishing company responded to clarify a "go ahead" from Dale. BTW, their official email address is: chasingthewishSPLATnew-fiction.com.

New Fiction Publishing wrote:

You have permission to post images from the book for purposes of updates, puzzle solving, etc. You just can't post:

1) entire pages as one image; or
2) the entire book in any form.

So portions of a page etc are OK. I have attached Dale's animal dream.

I hope you enjoy the comic book, and the game. Thanks for all your support.

Concerning the dream Kona posted above, there appears to be a puzzle of sorts. I'm going to use spoiler tags for those who haven't yet received their comic books.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
If you take the first letter of each animal in order you end up with "three letters saved". An interesting note, all letters of the alphabet are used in the dream text, with the exception of q, x, and z. So are they letters, as in alphabet, or letters as in documents?

Is there any significance to the fact that one paragraph is repeated?

The one that starts:
Quote:
I think I grew confused then...

I sent an email to Dale concerning the things we've found in the Dream....at enaxor's urging....hehe.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Hi Dale,

I bought your lovely comic book and I think its wonderful. I'm writing because I noticed something in your Dream journal. If you take the first letter of all the animals you became in your dream you get this message:

Three letters saved.

My friend Enaxor noticed that the only letters not used in your dream were QXZ. We both noticed that you repeated a paragraph.

Does this mean anything to you? We think there's a message for you in your dream. I hope this helps you somehow Dale.

Dashcat

I'll post any reply I get

I'm really leaning toward 3 letters(as in correspondence) hidden somewhere on Synthasia.

I pulled this out of Merchandise & Goodies because when I viewed the online version of the comic - the repeated paragraph had been corrected. There is still the secret message.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
"THREE LETTERS SAVED" and the missing Q X Z from the page.

Where do we go from here?

I just got a very late email from Dale:

I'm sorry I'm so late in replying to your question about my comic book, but I've been going just a little bit crazy here, trying to get everything done for Chasing The Wish and other things.

You may certainly scan and post images from the comic to share and discuss among your friends, just as long as you don't reproduce and share the entire book with anyone or anywhere, or post any high resolution full page images that might be scanned and then illegally used by someone.

I'm not sure if this is someone you are already working with, but someone has recently written to me to point out that there's a secret message of sorts to be found within my description of the dream about animals. It seems that the first letters of the various animal names spell out the words - three letters saved - which seems way too improbable to be coincidental, doesn't it? I'm still running through possible interpretations of the message in my mind but I'd thought you'd like to know, given your fascination with my dream.

Seems like a huge hint to dig a little deeper somewhere with QXZ (if that's the right order).

That was me. I got this response tonight:

Dale wrote:
Hi Dashcat (cool name, BTW - it seems vaguely familiar),

Thanks for the compliment about Chasing The Wish. I'm very proud of how the
finished book turned out.

Wow, that's really strange about the letters from my description of my dream
about the animals. I certainly hadn't noticed that, and it definitely
seems too specific to be coincidental or anything. I've been thinking about
possible interpretations of that phrase - three letters saved - since I first
read your email, and the best I've been able to come up with is that it's a
subconscious message about saving the Library, which we sometimes call the APL
around here. The APL, three letters, understand? But the past tense has me
confused, so I'm not sure if that's the correct interpretation anyway.

The repeated paragraph isn't a big deal or particularly significant. It's not
unusual for to do things like that when I'm writing things from my dreams,
while I'm still half-asleep and sitting in my bed.

Speaking of which, I need to head there soon. I'm going to spend a little more
time pondering this "hidden message" you've found and see what else I can come
up with.

Dale

When thinking what to do with results of puzzles, what has this PM done in the past? My first thought is it's an html or htm extension on an existing website. I tried at websites where Dale might have done work (Synthasia, Marzent) and at AglauraNJ. /qxz.html and /qxz.htm didn't yeild any results. Tried doing it at the library and also got zilch.

Why the clue about APL? Rot QXZ and you cannot get APL. Vig QXZ with APL as the key and you get QIO.

So now where do we go?

I'd have thought it had something to do with a phone if it weren't for the "X" being one of the letters as "Q" and "Z" are missing from many phones.
Could it have something to do with the Dewey Decimal system or classification in the fiction section. Lots of libraries do a primary sort/shelve using the first three letters of the authors last name.
That's all I got.

Just a question for a clarification, when you mention that q, x, and z aren't used at all in the dream text, do you mean just as the first letters of words? Because the word size is used a couple times, as well as the word next.

Heh my bad. Embarassed Two of us looked through that text several times and missed those words. Sorry for the wild goose chase.

After Dale mentioned APL in his email to Dash, I started looking at other 3 letter combinations; APL, AGP, Wes, Sam, Meg, to name a few.

I don't think there's any other puzzle here than what we already found.

Remember the comments Dale has made that his comic seems to be things that are happening in real life, only in reverse?

When he says:
Quote:

he's giving all the information right there. "Three Letters Saved" - APL, which is the Library, and "saved", meaning it 'already happened'. So that means it's 'going' to happen.

So if whoever has been corresponding with Dale regarding these words found, and the reply he sent back about the APL, maybe send him a reply pointing out that everything so far in his comic has been 'eventually' happening, and here is another thing that is stating past tense, which means the library is going to get saved.

in the comic, there is, on page 30, (online installment 4) a picture of dale in hospital with a doctor looking over him, and the word "zaxdigitalissxx"
with the three letters on either side of the name digitalis smaller
zax and sxx
