At the end of the small paragraph is the word 'here'.

For "abandonment"
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

since the first line is cryptic, could it be an anagram of some sort? I put the phrase into an anagram search engine but could not be bothered to sift through thousands of meaningless words chucked together. Anybody got any ideas?

Yes.. tons of anagrams, even when limiting to 3 words.. I have been looking up the prehistoric ancestors to scorpions, but can't really see anything that relates.

The last line would really invalidate anything like that, and the fact it asks "where is she."

I am pretty lost on Abandonment still :/

And a big thank you to bfiggins for the explanation. It was driving me crazy.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Sunrise mixes groan

Freedom-challenged travellers roamed

Poets yearn for home

ok, isn't a haiku 5,7,5? Please correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the 2nd line 8 syllables? Freedom 2, challenged 2, travellers 3, roamed 1?

isn't that 5, 8, 5?

Just a thought......

Thanks for the Pyramid spoilers.

Anyway, Travellers could be pronounced as "Trav-lers" in that, making it a Haiku

We're missing something on Abandonment, something obvious...but what is it?

The reference to scorpions is our big clue - it's clear and specific. But I'm not getting anywhere with it. I've tried Mexico and Egypt, the two places that come to mind when I think of scorpions, but I don't...
wait, just had an idea. Nope, not 'Stars'...I got to thinking about Scorpio, wondering if the answer might be astronomical.

The travelers have been replaced by scorpions, and it's the end of the line. Have we tried Tomb, Grave, etc?

So I thought... Scorpions -> "Rock You Like A Hurricane" -> Katrina -> New Orleans

Also, "sunrise mixes groan" -> "House of the Rising Sun" -> New Orleans

Unfortunately, it didn't work.

AngBa? I counted 7 syllables "Free-dom chall-enged trav-lers roamed" But maybe that's just my crazy Canadian pronounciation

I'm thinking perhaps Dante's inferno still. I mean, isn't there a monster in inferno who has a scorpion tail? Question

You can take me if you want, just give me some help HAHAHAHAHHAAH!!!!

I was speaking with my brother-in-law the other day about the Abandonment puzzle and he was telling me about something he and his Mom used to do in the UK called cryptic crosswords.

He said the first line looks like a basic cryptic crossword clue. According to him, Sunrise is almost always used to designate East and mixes means that the following word in an Anagram or is some type of cypher.

Sounded good, but East

NAG OR
ORGAN
GROAN
ARGON
RAG ON
RAG NO
GAR ON
GAR NO
RAN GO

still doesn't make sense.

here's my line of thought on Abandonment:

Freedom-challenged travellers --> prisoners. Former penal colony. Island. (no, Australia doesn't work)

poets yearned for home --> Robert Frost (et. al. ) Wintered in the Florida keys. (end of the line...line of islands...)

Fort Jefferson was used as a prison during the civil war and is located at the end of the Florida keys at Dry Tortugas National park. (Dry Tortugas doesn't seem to work, though)

I just can't get the "Sunrise mixes groan" to work out to anything significant.
