Just like to point out that in this mail Sarah doesn't say "wish" even once.

Just received the following response to an email I sent June4.

Quote:
Dear Sylvia,

Thank you so much for your inquiry. A physical copy of Sixth of Never
is currently only available at the Aglaura Public Library. However, I'm
considering making an online version of the text available on the
Library website sometime soon. Keep an eye out there for it.

Sincerely,
Sarah Wyatt

I sent off an email to Sarah, at both the library and blog email addresses.
She's suprised we found the blog. Whoops!
She has asked not to spread the Blog address to other people in Aglaura...
nothing worse than having ones neighbours know who you fancy. Wink

highlights:
Quote:
Sixth of Never is only available in the Library right now. I've been
really struggling with myself about putting a copy online precisely for
the reasons you mentioned - on one hand, to digitize a book- ugh. On the
other hand, I've had people from all over the place ask for a copy. I
will see if I can find a way to put the text online soon for people to
read.

As for email addresses, I check both regularly, although I am really
shocked that people found my blog. I thought I was so clever hiding it
there and not using my name. It's a little spooky how people were able to
find it there. Anyway, feel free to send mail either place, but I will
ask you the favor of not mentioning the blog to anyone who lives here in
Aglaura. They don't need to know everything about me, right?

Exanor had pointed out that the library demolition and renovations seemed very close in timing, so I asked Sarah about it. I also tried slipping in reference to Dale's comic and the Wish.

Quote:
My Email
Hi Sarah,

Thanks for writing me back. I wish there was some good news about the
masks and library by now, but a quick read of the Aglaura news says
otherwise. I wanted to let you know that the petition has started
making the rounds, so hopefully it will do some good.

Actually, I had another question. While looking over the news
statements at the Aglaura website, I came across something strange.
If I'm reading correctly, the Marzent plan was presented to the city
council in January of this year, but the library website mentions
recent renovations adding over 3000 square feet in April of 2006. Why
would the city go along with a proposal to destroy a building that
they just added to and modernized? That doesn't make sense to me. If
the money for this came from federal or government money, shouldn't
you have a case against the facilities being destroyed? The news post
also mentions a large donation from a private investor. Anyone I
might know? Could you possibly get help from this individual?
Unfortunately in this society, money does carry a certain amount of
power. Maybe it can be used for good for once!

I wish I could think of something better to help. I'll keep working
my brain on the problem though. Some of my most wonderful childhood
memories involved sitting down with a good book and being lost in its
magic. The children of the future deserve that experience as well. If
you can think of anything I can do to help you out, don't hesitate to
ask.

If brainstorming doesn't work, all we can do is wish. Funnily enough,
that reminds me of Dale Sprague's comic. Have you checked it out? The
story's quite fascinating and the artwork is beautiful. It includes a
character who can grant a seeker's wishes. Unfortunately it all goes
wrong in the story, like those old tales with a tricky genie who
turns people's wishes on them. If only we had the power to make our
wishes come true in this case. With no nasty tricks of course! If we
all wished hard enough, maybe we could summon some magic. Silly I
know, but sometimes I feel there's more to the world than the reality
we can physically see.

Once again, sending along my best,
~Kim

Sarah's Response
Dear Kim.

Very little about what's going on in this town has made sense to me
lately. I queried the council as to who funded the renovations a few
years ago and got different answers from everyone I asked! Actually the
text on the Library page is a bit misleading - the renovations were done a
few years ago, but that block of information was left over from the old
webpage before the redesign.

You're so right about the tricky genie! I had just mentioned to someone
else that one must always be careful in dealing with a djinni. The
graphic novel is really stunning though, isn't it? Too bad wishes aren't
really real. I could use one about now.

Sincerely,
Sarah Wyatt
Head Librarian, Aglaura Public Library

The library details are just a mistake, but we do know she's been getting the runaround about the library's investor. She also doesn't believe in wishes, even though she seems to use the term quite often! I do wonder who she spoke to about the djinni, and why she used this term when most people I've known would use genie.

For your info, djinnis are invisible spirits mentioned in the Koran and that according to Muslim demonology inhabit the earth and influence mankind by appearing in the form of humans or animals and exercising supernatural power.

Just trying to figure out were to go from here...

I wrote to Sarah bemoaning how annoying e-books are, since I've read a few books in that format. I also asked her how they were going to digitize all the library contents with all the copyright laws and such being what they are. In addition I asked her if she had time to read lately with everything going on, and what she had been reading, I received the following reply:

Quote:
Dear Jason,

Do you want to know the absolute worst thing about an e-book?

You can't covertly flip to the last page of a murder mystery novel to find
out who was the killer!

At least with a book, you can pretend like you opened it wrong or the
pages just fell open. With an electronic device, you have to make a
concerted effort to turn a page and there's no way to convince yourself
that it was all by accident.

I asked about the copyright issues and apparently they've got that all
covered somehow, although they didn't say how, not that I would understand
it anyway since most business-speak sounds like a foreign language to me.

Normally I try to read before bed every night. It's my lullaby. I myself
just finished with Heinlein's Tunnel in the Sky - another juvenile. I
love juvenile works. Many times I'll see so many aspects of grownup humor
and issues which kids undoubtedly miss, but it gives them a nice surprise
as they mature and go back to read their old favorites.

When Sam says that Sarah isn't so much up on the internet, she isn't kidding is she!
I mean - a book in progress called The Sixth of Never, telling people in Aglaura about it and having a domain called http://sixthofnever.com/ means it was never going to be discovered was it?!!

Has she advertised the name of the upcoming childrens book elsewhere or is this all Dales fault that we found her blog?

I notice in Dales book he advertises her previous book called 'The Masks of Never' Do we know what that was about, or have I missed something?

Here's some info on the book Sarah's reading, Tunnel in the Sky, just in case it's pointing us to something. It involves teleportation. Wasn't there something in the first CTW game about teleportation, or dimensional travel being explored by the guys in the ashram?

Zounds, I'm not sure but I think "The Masks of Never" is the name for the exhibit based on her book "Sixth of Never."

Mind you, I'm not positive of this. I could be way off on this.

Anyway, check my last post. We will soon be able to read the text online. I don't know about pictures.

Got a reply from the Email I sent June 3rd

Dear James,

Ah, Dale's mysterious Wish! What a wonderful yarn Dale's woven, hasn't
he? He's certainly captured the imaginations of the residents around

Too bad wishes aren't really real. I'm sure I could come up with one or
two myself.

Looks similar to an email someone else got, if I remember right.

The word "jinn" literally means anything which has the connotation of concealment, invisibility, seclusion and remoteness.

Hmmm, interesting... Is Sarah trying to tell us something? Or does she just use that spelling because she thinks that's the word "Genie" was derived from? Or maybe just:

Quote:
Usually, the term djinn is used by authors who wish to convey a more serious interpretation of the mythical creature, rather than the comical genies the Western public has become used to such as Robin Williams' character in Aladdin.

Thanks, yeah you're probably right, looking at the Library promotion in Dales book 'the Masks of Never by Sarah Wyatt' looked like a book cover to me at first, but maybe just a promotional poster.

Yes, I meant to point that out, too.

Yeah, Dimentional and time travel in the Egg using Tantric sex as the power to fuel it.

[EMAIL 6/8]Sarah's masks sketches' annotations

Just posting this for anyone curious about some of Sarah's notations on her mask sketches as seen here . Summary: She's passionate about her work and says "artwork is truly an extension of the artist."

Quote:
Dear Sarah,

I hope this message finds you well and in good spirits.

As I continue my search for the masks; I'm looking for any clue that
might help. I am left with only questions.
I've been trying to make out the annotations you penciled on the mask
sketches on your blog, but my eyes aren't as good as they used to be.
(I'm pushing bifocal age...pushin' real hard!) Can you let me know
what they say?
You titled them "History" and "Knowledge". My imagination soars at
what the others might be called. Please, tell me.
"Why would someone steal my masks? ", must be a question you've asked
yourself a hundred times. Aside from being original works of art by
the talented Sarah Wyatt, could there be something else? Which leads
me to this last question: At any time during or after making the
masks, did they seem to induce special feelings or insights? Ok,
that's an odd question, but, nevertheless; these are odd times.

Golden slumber and best wishes.

Still searching,
Drizabella

Quote:
Dear Drizabella,

Let me see - there's nothing really earth-shattering there; mainly just little
notes about what I planned to put where, and what media to use. For example, one sketch says things like, "Famous quotes in many languages" and "Leaves -fimo-treated canvas? Starched paper?" The other says "Crown of architecture"and "The stars - constellations are where we keep our myths," and so on. Mainly just little notes to myself to work with as I created the items.

Flattery will get you anywhere! I hesitate to think of myself as talented...
more that I'm passionate about my work. I guess I could say that there's a sort of a fire that drives me when I create any art; it helps me to
make things which are richer and more meaningful than something you'd whip up without care. So in that way, yes, I guess that making the masks
brought me some special feelings or insights in that while making them, I put a bit of myself into them and brought a bit of them into me so that the artwork is truly an extension of the artist. Which is yet another reason why I really want them back - I worked_hard_ on those and poured myself into them!

How did you know that "Golden Slumbers" is one of my favorite songs? The sentiment is so sweet in lullabies. To sing to sleep a child without care other than what happens in the moment... it must be a beautiful thing.

Best wishes,
Sarah Wyatt

Golden Slumbers to all.
