The Boris & Natasha Game

So, sitting in #uf, I saw cather mention that she got an AIM message asking if she was an agent. Being a sucker for talking to characters when I'm utterly bored, I got the AIM name from her and started talking.

My chat with spencertraceback

cather then noted that Pottsylvania is fictional country from Rocky and Bullwinkle. Armed with that knowledge, I started talking to junedahlink / Natasha. I gave her the image, and eventually got out of her a website: http://www.pottsylvania.co.nr/

I dunno who is putting this on - but it made me laugh. Very Happy Enjoy folks.

----
edit: cuz I'm still bored.

Now I know why Rocky & Bullwinkle were always able to beat Boris and Natasha. Boris & Natasha are even dumber than Bullwinkle.

Natasha, honey-bun,

I am so glad to have heard from you. It reassures my wicked heart. I am NOT so glad to hear that you have been assigned a new partner. I have not heard of this Evilovich prior to your 'email' and I am skeptical of his origins. Keep an eye on him Natasha, he could be a double agent. Or worse, a double, double, double agent!

I am now situated in America, though I will not tell you just where. And I have been discovering some fairly amazing things! The Americans claim that the cold war has been over for fifteen years, and that the Soviet empire has collapsed. Unbelievable! Is this the truth, or simply American disinformation?

With the help of Von Rothbart I have set myself up as a private investigator, again under the pseudonym Spencer Traceback. I will endeavor to find out for you what I can about this American 'Project FOXGLOVE' which you have been assigned to monitor. I will convey this information in the most discreet manner possible.

Boris

Btw - the original picture file I was emailed actually contained the PSS website. Obviously Natasha felt sorry for me and just gave me the website since I wasn't smart enuf to open it with notepad when I first received it.

It's camouflaged and the password is: eyespy

Opening it gives a text file with an encrypted line: Q2hlY2sgeW91ciBtYWlsClBvdHRzeWx2YW5pYS5jby5ucgo=

Hmm...I wonder if this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boris_and_Natasha:_The_Movie has anything to do with project FOXGLOVE (maybe this stands for something else, an abbrivation for what it acctually is)

EDIT: Acroynm, that's the word I was thinking of, FOXGLOVE could be an acroynm

In Natasha's private file place thing, there's another letter from Boris, unencrypted, with an 'invisible' paragraph which, with an assist from Paintshop Pro, reads...

If you find it difficult to contact me via traditional means, I have arranged for an electronic mailing address, through one of my contacts in that industry. I can be reached at spencertracebackSPLATgmail.com. Please use an alias, and sign off with 'swordfish' so that I will know that it is you.

Haha!

I suspect (assuming this is a full-blown ARG, not just some little prank thing) that we're just waiting for it to launch, and that this is the pre-game. I haven't got a reply yet, so maybe they're just getting their ducks in a row before they continue (which should have been done before the game, bad PMs, bad Wink )

How exactly is the hidden message found within the file using Paintshop, and which image are you using.

I for one are curious to know?

I'm afraid I can't access the site right now, so I can't say which file exactly, but I believe it's the one before the encrypted one? You'll notice some shadowy unreadable text down at the bottom, before the signature. I just opened it up in PSP and played with hues/contrast until it was readable.
