'laura' is no good.
'LAURA' is no good.
'Laura' is no good.
'laura' is no good.

ok it could have just said it once, but four times?

test a key?

I've tried downloading all the latest programs to test a 8 character key, but I can't seem to get it to work. I had an idea for a key (a very out of the box idea) and was wondering if someone could test it for me?

I've noticed most of the players believe the key may have something to do with hercules. I thought i would work on something different. I tried thinking of taking labour somewhat literally for its different definitions.

Anyways, my out there key (which i hopefully am not repeating for fear of getting a trout) is solarmax. I did some google searches and landed on a message board talking about a space shuttle mission that was 'supposed' to be named STS-13 but was renamed to not include the unlucky number. Apparantly the mission had some complications with the spacewalk for repairing the solarmax satellite.

It's very outside the box and I'm 99.9% sure it's not the key, but if someone could try this i would appreciate it.

Hi Guys,

I'm relatively new to Perplexcity, but me and my other half have been doing pretty well at solving cards up to the blacks. Haven't got this card yet but would love to get involved int he solve, especially as I've missed out on being able to help out on most other cards!

I've read the preceding pages, and understand that there are 2 linked approaches, 1 group looking at the brute force processing aspects, and one researching possible keys.

I have little cryptographical knowledge and similar levels of progamming knowledge, but what can I do to help?

You guys seem to have covered so many possible routes for keys that i don't want to duplicate effort. Does anyone have any ideas they need researching but don't have time?

If not I'll just hit t'internet and see what I find!

OK, I'm fairly certain this hasn't been posted before.

If you google 64128, it gives you this:

http://maps.google.com/maps?oi=map&q=64128

which is on East 33rd street

Can someone try that for me? (have nowhere near the understanding necessary to get the program working, sorry!) Embarassed

Also, after completing the 12 labours Hercules apparently went to do some work for Laomedon, king of Troy, where he killed Poseidon. He also dallied around with Achilles dad, his second wife was Deianira who used the blood of one of the creatures he killed to get revenge when he cheated on her. Also, The play The Madness of Hercules by Euripides I think, has the 12 labours happening before madness (although this would need to be padded.

Anyone anythoughts on these?

Am also trying to find routes away from Hercules, but its hard!

Ok, a couple more if someone fancies trying them?

Distributed.net found the 39th Mersenne prime (2^13466917-1).

Since then there have been claims to the Mersenne primes up to the 43rd (I believe) this being 2^30402457-1.

Aside from being 8 letters and linked to Distributed.net, I like the fact that 13 is the 5th (cf 5 cows) Mersenne prime.

13 is the 3rd 'lucky prime' based on a sequence from a stiry by Josephus.

13 is also the number of nodes in Melatron's cube

13 popes called innocent

13 is the ASCII code for carriage return

Ok, so some of them are a bit out there, but if someone doesn't mind trying them? please?

none of the bold words work but
Quote:
The decoded file for key 'Melatron' vaguely looks like a \

hmm... a \ might work....

Cheers for trying them, they were a bit of a stab in the dark tbh.

Out of interest, what sort ouf output do you get from a 'wrong' answer? And how do you mean it vaguely looks like a \?

Sorry, still haven't got to grips with the testing aspect of it!

go on http://www.connected.ltd.uk/pxc/ to guess what you think the key is...

i dont know what it means by \....

and if its a "rejected" key then the word is followed by "is no good" hence my sad post above Sad

I'm only relatively new to this but I think far too much effort is being put in to this. I think there are some rather perverse people at Mind Candy currently having a big laugh at our expense. When, IF, it is cracked I rather suspect that we will be told of a far simpler solution.

I'm new to this and am going to start working on my own, from the ground up....

Ideas:

- 64/12/8 - could this be a reference to a book? Page/Chapter/Paragraph?
- 251 - is the card number, itself, a clue? Clearly 256 is more common for all things geeky but still.......
- have those in perplexcity academy been of any use? There is an entire cryptographic department.

This has been discussed before - with the books considered being The Labours of Hercules and a book about DES found from the distributed.net site, the only one with a rating of 5 cows. This book doesn't have actual page numbers unfortunately.

I did have a thought about the Labours of hercules book. I would imagine this has been published in numerous editions and formats by different publishers, so it is more than possible that the page and line numbers will vary between different copies. For this to work we would need the right edition.

Haven't read anything suggesting that aspect yet - can't think of a link yet though.

I also agree that the brute force approach is unlikely to be what MC are looking for, and when its cracked we may well be kicking ourselves. That said, my PC is still running keys in the background, and I don't think its a bad route to persue in the mean time.

Has anyone else had any ideas?
