Treasure Hunt: PoTC and Volvo (cont.)

Edit: Split from original thread. -SpaceBass

The dice

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Just speculation, but maybe the position of the dice when they landed on 12 was important? They seem to frame SEA when I get 6/6

Is the code on the map pre-printed or likely unique per map sheet?

Regarding the Skull Card:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

Noticed all the red writing that you see through the skull? "LIFE" "SEARCH" "COLLECT", "O", "X","X" and "X" I spotted via a quick scan...

The Xs mark "Remains", "Shrubs", "Search" The "O" Marks "Dunes"

From what I can tell - the map is all set up with all the answers to the clues to come - still have to solve them in order to get the solution cards.

I don't have a map, but I did all the quest puzzle things up until where it says you need a code and to come back June 16th. I think the puzzles are pretty well done, great graphics too. I just have to figure out how to get my hands on a map, I don't live particularly close to a Volvo dealership.

Well, not quite -

Quote:

The Hunt started on June 12th and ends July 12th. In case you joined late, you have every opportunity to catch up. The clues you missed so far can be found within The Hunt website www.volvocars.co.uk/thehunt

Also - the treasure map (which you'll have to get one of at some point before the end, it's a competition requirement) has the code "S1L73R" - in the UK at least....

Maybe that didn't come across the way I wanted it to.

To re-phrase - June 16th is when the next "part" of the game starts. There is currently a stopping point where no one can move on until we get a code via email on the 16th. So anyone who hasn't started playing yet has until June 16th to "catch up" to the same stopping point that everyone else is at right now, and they'll be on an "even field" with the rest of the players currently.

Beginners start here:

At the starting map, click the "ABOUT THE HUNT" link at the top.
Click "HOW TO HUNT" and read up on the Solution Card.
To the right, click "See example puzzle."

Thanks. Everyone have your passport ready? You can't win the game unless you have one, I imagine...

Driven.

It might be a good idea to put puzzle solves in spoiler tags for people who would like to solve the puzzles on their own. I'm sure not everyone who would like to play the game have completed all the puzzles already.

I am a big fan of Pirates of the Caribbean and will definitely participate in this one. Unfortunately, there are no Volvo dealers nearby. Can anyone tell me if I need the brochure they are handing out? Or can I get started without one? And if I can't get by without one, would someone mind scanning it for me?

You need the paper with the code on it in order to register.

When you register, you will get the email updates that will give you the clue needed to move on from each 'part' of the game.

Currently, the first part sent you an email which stated to roll the dice until they read twelve. This would give you the answer to start off the puzzle trail.

After 3-4 different puzzles, you will reach a point that says you have to wait until June 16 to get the next code in your email.

So you will be able to continue playing as long as someone posts the email code here each time they receive one.

You will not, however, be able to register and be a contestant for the grand prize unless you go to a Volvo dealer, get a map, and enter the code on the website.

Well it seems like every map has contained the same code to start off the treasure hunt. "S1L73R"

I can use this to register on the website... I am just wondering if there is any other use of the map?

You're going to need it if you plan on winning
Quote:
{sec.5}YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO SUBMIT THE ORIGINAL TREASURE MAP WITH SECRET PIRATE CODE OR A COPY OF THE TREASURE MAP WITH SECRET PIRATE CODE WITH A VALID VOLVO RETAILER STAMP IN ORDER TO REDEEM YOUR FINALIST PRIZE. IN THE EVENT A POTENTIAL FINALIST CANNOT SUBMIT THE ORIGINAL TREASURE MAP WITH SECRET PIRATE CODE OR A COPY OF THE TREASURE MAP WITH SECRET PIRATE CODE WITH A VALID VOLVO RETAILER STAMP, THE FINALIST WILL BE DISQUALIFED.

and you'll need a passport
Quote:
{sec.6} Finalists and their Guests will be responsible for obtaining valid U.S. Passports (as applicable) and any required immunizations prior to travel and the associated costs for these and other requirements.

You'll see this before you can finish registering, or it's all at http://www.volvocars.us/terms_and_conditions-thehunt.htm

I looked through the pad of maps that they had at my volvo dealership, every map has a unique code.

Mine is definitely not just S1L73R, and you'll need the map with the same code on it that you registered with to win.

Spoke to a guy with King & Spalding who works on the Volvo account, he mentioned that the account which is supervised by Ford is going to involve about 8 more clues. Don't know the reliability and he said that clue should release overnight this morning so I guess we will see. - of course if he lies I shall torture him later by calling his wife and telling her of a woman gymnist named Bambi and/or Candi. Will check back personally.

hey everyone, i've been reading this thread the past few days and working on the contest, i actually just registered a minute ago cause i've got a question, if anyone can help me out, thanks a lot...
anyway, i finished the first part of the questions, waited for my second email, yet never got it. When you put in the codes, are you supposed to sign in, on the contest page? how does it know that it's you that has completed the puzzles, so that they can send you the next email? that's the only thing i can think of why i havent gotten my email...getting kind of frustrated cause i want to move on, i've been having fun doing it so far...any help would be great, thanks again. and i'll be sure to help out as well if i can get a move on here.
