Bad Twin, etc

I don't remember where I got that she was Shannon's step mom, but I'm researching it.

I think that the book has to be involved in some way, otherwise why go to the expense, etc of putting it out there. Writing is hard work and getting a book out there is an expensive way to advertise a TV show. Also the release date coinciding with the start of this season's ARG can't be coincidence. I'd also rather believe that if the book was just a marketing stunt that whoever wrote it would have written a better book. Maybe it's just that it's so bad that I'm hoping that there is more to it.

However, I don't now which is why I compiled the list of possibly relevant bits, just in case. I mean if it were me, I'd find some nasty way to use it in all of this, but I'm like that.

Apologies for getting the name of the books mixed up in front of the hiding place. Everything else should be accurate. Thanks for pointing out the inaccurate bits though. It's always good to have backup.

bad twin

Stayed up all night friday reading Bad Twin. It was a typical detective story with medi0cre writing. I think that it opened up alot of questions for discussion. I emalied speaker and he emailed me back and said it was a work of fiction and that the charecters were not real and that troup loosely based a work of fiction around the corporation.

Laphroig Whiskey

I saw a poster of all of the Whiskey distilleries in Scotland and the Laphroiag one, that is mentioned in the book, is known 'by it's distinctive pagoda's on their smoke stacks."

I thought it was a great tid bit, totally irrelevant, but funny.

Trent's Last Case

I just picked up a copy of Turn of the Screw to see if it was relevant to anything or not and asked about "Trent's Last Case" According to the computer at Books a Million, it's been out of print for a while in the US, a couple of smaller UK presses still print it, BUT they are Re-releasing it in July. Amazon has new copies of it for sale, but they are all from the UK publisher. I'm guessing that it has Some relevance to the story line-TV show most likely, ARG possibly- since they are putting it out there again and it will have it's own display in the stores. I can't imagine why else they would re-release a book written in 1912. But, then again, I'm unexpectedly naive when it comes to these things, something that I didn't know until I ventured into this ARG.

Also, has anyone read BF Skinners "Walden Two"? If so, could it be a foundational link to the plot? Utopian society and all of that?

I bought "The Third Policeman" just because* it appeared in the show (blink and you'll miss it), and have just finished reading it. Honestly, if The Island is not purgatory, the writers and props people are doing everything they can to tease us with little references to that theory.

I own "Walden Two" and read it decades ago. From what I can recall, it is idealistic and simplistic, but also scientific about how a better community can be formed thru social engineering. I wouldn't say they claim it is a Utopia, and they themselves admit that human nature is flawed and instinctually resistant to the greater good. Skinner was a bit twisted in his thinking, to my mind.

*and also because it appeared in "Treasure Quest", an old computer game which first introduced me to the joys of message boards, chat rooms, and online collaboration.

(returning in July to lock the thread)
Because we don't like threads to grow to an excessive number of pages, and because this discussion dried up and drifted off-topic, I'll lock it. Feel free to start a new book discussion thread specific to either of Gary Troup's books. If you want to discussion literature from the television show, please move it to the Off-Topic forum. (Yes, I should have split the thread when it ventured out-of-game.)
