We have a multitute of possible ID's and Passwords from this picture, the problem is where to put them.

We really need is some kind of location indicator and it should have been easier, there were less sites when this was first put up.

Remember the October 5 picture... That was the first one we solved and the solutions was actually to go through FTP..

I assume the reason all subsequent puzzles used HTTP and subfolders was because of the FTP leak and the huge number of hits which FTP can't handle..

If so, the October 1 picture was posted before many sites went live, before subfolders were used, and might in fact mean something completely different than what we are expecting.

Are we missing this?

I just noticed, looking at the picture again, that there is a white streaky pattern in the picture. It almost looks like snow falling at an angle. It is not in the Color box.

Seeing it now, I say to myself (SELF), was that there before? I am not sure. Can anyone confirm or deny that?

Does anyone else think that inside the box, that it could be a cat? If not I could point it out. In "the_picture" song, "Where is that little girl smilin'?" "What do I need to find?"

Alice reference: Chesire cat. Smiling. Gravity defying cat in archives.

Lesson to be learned??? : http://www.sabian.org/alice8mj.htm

I've always thought the background was unnecesarily "messed up", it's like a copy of a copy of a copy etc. and it's not representative of the quality of the picture.

The rest of it has been pretty much thrashed to death, though I've never been able to see the cat in the box that a few people have mentioned, I can ony ever see the chesspiece. Rolling Eyes

Here is a blown up adjusted part of the color box. I've drawn what could be extrapolated as a cat. Sometime I look and I see an owl.

Again. Cat in midair.

The background

A funny thing that bothers me about the background (sort of): The shadow seems to be to be cast by the girl ... the black outline on the upper left seems to be that of her arm, hand, and some of the hair. Below that (the lower half of the black on the left side) is a shadow she couldn't have cast, so there's something low and wide between her and the source of light.

Here's the funny thing: The skeleton/ghost thing seems to be in between the girl and her shadow. It doesn't seem to overlap the girl (I can't see the gray outline on the girl's body no matter how I tweak the contrast). So the skeleton is behind the girl and in front of her shadow ... between her and her shadow. I don't know if that means anything ... obviously the skeleton was inserted digitally, and doesn't have to follow any rules of physical reality. But perhaps it being between her and her shadow means something?

Also, where is she that she's casting such a prominent shadow? Is there a spotlight on her? Is she on stage? What is she doing exactly anyways? (My first thought was the itsy-bitsy spider, but she's clutching her hair) I've been thinking about the lyrics of "the picture" a lot while looking at this image ... 'little feet dancing' and 'where's that little girl smiling'. Where is she and what is she doing?

A couple more thoughts:

First thing I think when I look at that image is "cute". Eye see cute? ICQ? I seek you?

Way further out there in speculation land: Boo had Dead Alice = Daedalus earlier ... , recently bWF0cml4IHN1Y2tz had Daedalus in the context of the Avery and Son speculation about Caesar (Daedalus and Icarus being a father and son intimately involved in the labyrinth of Minos story). IF Caesar is Avery's son looking for Avery, it would not surprise me if he used a reference to Daedalus in this initial paintover image because of just how applicable that bit of mythological imagery would be.

But the difference is that we can see the posts in the forum.
So either they can see the list of the files somehow or they always know what file extension is the next. (I don't think that after a file they try all remaining file extensions for the next file. Not mentioning the numbers in the filename...)

Fresh (recycled) ideas - Peekaboo, eye see you

I showed the image to a friend, who just happens to be a person who was once a young girl with pigtails. I said to her: "What's this little girl doing?" She immediately stated: "Peekaboo, I see you". I asked her, "if you were playing peekaboo, would you grab your pigtails in your hands and use them like that?" She replied, "absolutely", and demonstrated (she's still got longish hair) how she'd hide behind the hair at first, pulling it away and stating "I see you". eye see you. How about 'you' as a missing word. I know the word is usually missing from the quote but ...

Searching the forum, I can only find one reference to peekaboo, in Trip's excellent list of ideas to try. I can only conclude we haven't thought about this too much, so here it is again. Am I totally out to lunch, or have we really not considered this much?

Somebody start trying peekaboo as a password stat! And give me 50cc's of Vicoprofin in the meantime.

Re: cat?

Well, I've heard some people talk of the red object that the girl is looking at being the Cheshire Cat, or just simply a cat. If you were to piece a few pieces of information together that we have, maybe we are "looking for a lost cat" - 'looking' coming from the girl looking at something, 'lost' from an anagram of STOL and 'cat' from the speculation that it is a cat.

Do any of the characters have cats that have gone missing? Or has a character lost something significant at all (in the case of it not being a cat)?

If you were to use another anagram of STOL we might be "looking for lots of cats" or something...

Thoughts?

I'm pretty convinced about a few things right now.
One that it's not a cat, it's a red king chess piece. Look at the magnified images posted by Wedge Gold. Red King also makes sense, being the counterpart to the Red Queen, and Alice in Wonderland setting, where the quote comes from.
Two, the thing behind the girl is saying "look up"
Three, the clue Eye See indicates that the directions that the characters are looking in are really the pointers to the clues.
Four, The girl is looking at Red King before Lots. So I guess that the filenames we're looking for is actually lots.*... tho by now they might as well be lost.* Rolling Eyes

I like the peekaboo theory. But uh peekaboo doesn't sound in character for caesar... And I know if I'm the hackers, I'd laugh at Caesar for setting such a wussy password.

I think the PM's are giving us clues even now, to solving the October 1 Pic. In the hacker conversations we've read that Caesar likes to make literary references. Oct 1 pic must be a literary reference. Cos the other pics are not as literary. Oct 1 is more complex than the rest, which are basic googling up things.

A few questions, that prevent a basic solving of the problem. I'm not sure if www.redking.net is actually the server we're meant to access (the admins of that site might be having nightmares at the number of alice (something) logins by now.) All other servers already have their secret folder. I don't see caesar posting something important like that on Paintover, (which is his site, and kept pretty exclusive until recently). Have we really missed a site?
Is the Oct 1 pic a password login combi?
Or is it a URL in disguise?

My thoughts are that the Alice in Wonderland references would draw too many similar sites to be a clear URL. www.redking.net is suspicious for sure, and I'm still randomly trying stuff, but it doesn't have the... jive that aquapolis did. There are no clues like little boxes or whatever around.

Basically, lots of passwords, but no site to hack. PMs give us a clue!

(Maybe) stupid question:
I'm sure somebody already suggested the "STOL = Small TO Large" idea.
What does Alice have to do to grow? Eat or Drink? (I honestly can't remember and no time to check now, since I'm at work..).

So another PW-suggestion from me: "growth", but as downhere said, password for what?

I see it the opposite way. I think the others were very literary, and I think that's the problem, this one isn't.
Searching for quotes is not too tricky compared with searching for "that skeleton-like thing at the back" and "The little red splodge that might be a cat or a chesspiece".

I think this is what convinces me more than ever that this is something else. The fact that it's endured so long.
If it were critical to the path of the game we might have seen some mysterious improvement in the quality of the picture (like the second one).
The PMs are either laughing their socks off at how we could miss such an obvious answer, or reconcilled to the fact that we don't see it as they do. We've seen a few things that could be hints, but the game moves on regardless, this might not be true if it were that crucial.

If they gave you a clue and it turned out to be obvious, would you really be happy?

Another Idea

I can possibly also see the red king in there too. What ever it is, it is not clear at all. Since it is Halloween, I think I see a red pumpkin too. (maybe it is a Red Herring?)

What happens when we look up? We see sky. What had sky? TheNekodas.com But was that even up? I don;t think so. So it's gotta be something else.

On to the Peekaboo theory. Interesting. I like it. Thing is, I like all the theories. But let's see how many people know this little game. Not many it seems.

When we play the peekaboo game what do we say? "I see YOU!"

So YOU or U is missing?

Who knows. If they did give us a clue and it was an obvious answer, then I would be disappointed in myself, but laugh at it. If it is something that I still don't get, then I'll be disappointed in the whole thing and probably stop playing.
