Magnus Hanso owned New World Sea Traders. He had warships, trading vessels, and three slave ships, because slave trade was still common on the Indian Ocean.

In 1882, NWST was liquidated and sold to the East Ocean Trading Group, and the vessels were refitted to merchant ships. Magnus Hanso continued to sail each year after selling his company.

Sorry Rachel am having trouble with my ancient PC. As I was saying:

I've done some research on Dutch and Danish shipping. It's a hobby of mine. Over the years, I've also collected a number of rare and out-of-print works on the histories of these early trading companies. I believe I've come across some information that may shed light on what Mittelwerk was doing at the Allied Copenhagen Marine Merchants.

It seems that in the 1950s, the Hanso Group purchased a British-owned shipping company known as the East Ocean Trade Group, and renamed it the Allied Copenhagen Marine Merchants. Now, looking through one of my rare volumes on shipping history, I came across the following Ð- and you will see the names that caught my eye.

So maybe Alvar Hanso is his son or grandson. It wouldnt be him because their life extension projects hadnt started when the ship disappeared.
this would also relate to season 2 episode 17
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The place on the blast door that says here lies magnus hanso. It does seem like mittlewerk is looking for the island.

This is at least partially confirmed, as Rachel has updated "Copenhagen Post 02":

00.10: Looks like we have at least part of the answer to our question about the Allied Copenhagen Marine Merchants. Check it out:

Here is a scan from the book.

00.25: Not to mention this from terry idaho: http://www.freewebs.com/shipwreckmate/index.htm

So, what do we think? Was The Hanso Foundation built on the backs of slaves?

Why am I not surprised?

It is going to suck to go through all through crap posts on Rachel's blog to find the ones that matter...ugh. This does seem to confirm that some of them will matter, though.

We generally won't have to go through them all - the PMs know that there are tons of morons who post crap, so they conveniently have Rachel update the posts with the most crucial findings every so often.

So, for the marine merchants, were we supposed to look up Hanso in conjunction with them? I fail to see what the PMs were trying to get out of us.

She's posted the ones that do matter on the blog though. Although I find it odd that everyone who came up with something meaningful is an anonymous poster.

Well this is all very interesting. So was this 'shipwreckmate' site created for the game? I ask because 1) a Google search turns up no other mention of this particular "Top 8 shipwreck" (though correct me if I'm wrong) and 2) the fact that the Black Rock sailed from "Slip 23"

Seems to be, theres no listing of a slave ship called the black rock on google like you said except for topics relating to the show. Seems weird though that abc isnt hosting the page themselves. It totally looks cheeseball. The music puts it over the top.

But wait a minute. How does all this new information about The Black Rock tie in with what's on the computer screen?

Even though it has been ackowledged by Rachel, it still seems strange to me. The freewebs, the Bravenet...doesn't disprove anything, but it is inconsistent with all official sources we've been directed to so far.

it's consistent if you want a site to look like it was made by someone who knows a lot more about shipwrecks than web design.

I was kinda wondering that myself. We don't even know for sure at this point that the Black Rock was what Mittlewerk was actually looking for. It may tie in eventually, but the computer info seems to be a clue to something specific that might lead to the BR, or might not.

I found two versions of the image of the supposed Black Rock on the shipwreckmate site.

The one visible on the site is black_rock1.jpg.

The other one I found is called black_rock.jpg and is tinted differently. I'm posting it below. In this version, you can more clearly see that there's something strange in the water down off to the left of the ship... what is it?
