Not to me. I read that techspeak and am now more confused than I was when I started. Can someone please break it down in bite-sized chunks and translate to English, French, or legalese, or some other language I can *understand*?!?!

O

Okay, say your friend had a refrigerator full of beer, like 300 different kinds at any given moment. Now, say also that you would be more likely to go over to your friend's house if he had some new kind of beer for you to try, because you get bored easily if you have to drink the same beer all the time. If your friend had an RSS feed for his beer, you could put it on your site and then you would always know what the latest 10 (or however many) beers he had added to his stock were. And then if you could just persuade him to add an RSS feed for his "adult movie" collection.... Shocked

An RSS feed can be used to quickly and easily feature content from other sites on your own, for example. A site can be set up to automatically pull that info from another site, simply by directing it to the correct URL.

For instance, on the original Immersive Lounge site, there was a CNET Tech news box. This info was pulled onto the page by accessing CNET's RSS feed. It updated itself automatically every day. You could conceivably just have an entire page with news pulled from various sites around the internet.

It can also be used in conjunction with AvantGo on a PalmPilot to automatically download articles when you perform a hotsync. That very thing enabled me to salvage some of my articles from IL, btw, as I'd dl'd them into my palm.

This feature is available on the deaddrop site. If you click the AvantGo link on the left (if you're registered there), it takes you to http://deaddrop.us/modules.php?name=AvantGo , the URL of which can be set up as an AvantGo channel, and will automatically be dl'd into your palm pilot with the latest stories. It then shows up along with CNN, ESPN or whatever other feed you've got it set to go get. It's pretty cool, actually.
