[Update] Perplexcity.com - 23/06/06 - live event
Quote:
THE SAN FRANCISCO CONNECTION
The Perplex City Academy and Mind Candy are proud to announce The San Francisco Connection, a free live event celebrating the opening of a new data link between Perplex City and Earth. On Saturday August 12th (provisional date), The San Francisco Connection will see hundreds of people tackling a series of delightfully devious puzzles and games designed by the best minds in the Academy, with a high-tech slant that has never been seen before.
Everyone is welcome to take part in the puzzles and games, which will take place across central San Francisco and culminate in the official activation of the link. There will also be plenty of opportunities for veterans to swap puzzle cards and tips, and new players can learn all about Perplex City.
More details about The San Francisco Connection will be posted here in the coming weeks, including the venue, confirmed date and start time.
If you are interested in taking part in the event and think you'd be able to attend, please enter your email address below:

ABOUT THE EVENT
The San Francisco Connection is the first major live event held by the Perplex City Academy and Mind Candy in the United States. A previous event in London took place in February and was massively oversubscribed, with over 1000 people competing for 300 places.
Media: If you would like to cover the event, please email mediaSPLAT mindcandydesign.com
ABOUT THE LINK
The first and only data link between Perplex City and Earth was established several years ago, and operates from London. In order to cope with increased demand and serve as a backup, the Perplex City Academy and Mind Candy began work last year on a second data link to operate from San Francisco, which will be activated on the day of the event.
You lucky U.S. buggers.

Oh, if I could could a flight across the country for a single day...
DANG IT!
But, then, I guess it's the West Coast's moment in the sun.
Tell me how it goes; something tells me I'll be absent.

And don't forget to bring a good cellphone with easy-to-retrieve message recordings!

to me this almost sounds like they are opening up a US office.. I don't know how likely that is (and why couldn't they do it on the east coast )
ah well, hopefully they'll have another event in new york next year.

That's exactly what I thought.
First look it seems 250 bucks will get me there and back (from MN). Not sure about the other UKver2.0'ers. I'm thinking it's either going to be a fly in, go to the live event, fly out by myself or a week long trip with the wife and baby. It'd be a shame to go all that way and not see anything, but also really funny. I just have to decide if I want to be THAT in to this game.
Question: What time did the PCAG in London start/end?

It's all a bit of blur really.
The events lasted from about 12ish to 7ish.

Depends if you take the start as the 'squashed in a phonebox' bit, the 'infamous night of the Jojojojuxtamonster' or the 'right, go and stand in Traf Square and await instructions' bit.
The end... I don't remember the end.... but then again, not many people do.
I'm also intensely jealous of all of you that can go. Have a great time.

There was a "brunchfast" organised, which started...around 10ish (I think, I wasn't there for it) The event itself started at midday, when the doors opened for team registration.
At 12:45, the players hit London's mean streets, with the "games" proper starting at 13:00. They ran for three hours, then following debriefing, travel back to basecamp and totting up of scores, the prizes got handed out at 16:45. Once we'd packed up, it was around 18:00.
Then the drinking began....

Yup, that's what I thought, too. I think a US branch office would be a great idea. Easier to market the game here, which should lead to more stores carrying it. Plus more live events!
I'm seriously thinking about going to this event. Sounds too good to pass up.
