[META] Valenzetti-related Movement and Other Things

Hello there. I have been trying for a long time to engage with the Hanso Foundation with regard to Valenzetti-related materials.

I have been utterly unable to find any materials related to Valenzetti in any major research institution and now suspect that the Hanso Foundation bought, stole, or otherwise obtained all scholarly literature pertaining to Valenzetti. This is a disaster.

The other day I discovered a campaign started to find the Valenzetti Equation. I've decided to join it and delcare my opposition to the Hanso Foundation's ridiculous stronghold on something that ought to be available to every research institution in the world.

Join this campaign with me, and perhaps we can force the Hanso Foundation's hand!

Thank you all,
Matt the Pale

EDIT: Also, one of my friends Tresbien has suggested a letter-writing campaign to ABC.
Tresbien at ITE wrote:
I've just written to ABC saying I believe the real Hugh McIntyre was not on the Jimmy Kimmel show and asked that they investigate the matter and let the public know if it was not him. I feel strongly that we all may have been duped, and ABC has a responsibility to tell us the truth. I urge you to join me in this effort by contacting ABC yourselves and insist that they investigate what happened to Hugh McIntyre. We must find out the truth before it is too late, and we need everyone to put on the pressure. Please let everyone know on all of the boards that this campaign is underway.

Media outlets generally send an auto reply, but they do read the mail and pay attention to it so don't be discouraged by that. And thanks again for writing.

Okay, guys! I definitely think this is one potential way to show ABC that we're serious about it!

metanarrative and ethics of ARG

The Lost ARG is the first I've played, and the previous post raises a question that I can't answer: What kind of "distance" does one attempt to maintain between PMs and gamers? For instance: Regarding the Valenzetti book, would it be in the spirit of ARGs or not to create a website that documented a protest movement centered around getting Hanso to release a copy of the VE to the public? For instance, one could draw up a petition, could Photoshop pictures of angry crowds with slogan signs protesting outside Widmore, one could draft a form email that site users could copy/paste and send off to Hanso (like many political sites do for letters to congresspeople). Hell, one could even film a fake news broadcast (just steal the frames/logos from a CNN broadcast or something) and host the footage on the site.

The PM response to Save Joop has been positive, and this idea is along the same lines. The difference with this is that gamers would actually be actively creating narrative - not just responding to a part of established narrative like Save Joop.

I say go for it. I feel like our reaction to the game can be -with in the limits of sanity, safty and and need to not ostrisize family or lose one's job- as real as you want it to be. The PM are people, and if we can make them react, we can make the characters in the game react, and that is what I've been waiting for.

I'm not sure how you draw the distinction. Isn't SaveJoop creating its own narrative? Where did they get the idea that Joop was being mistreated? Certainly not from the Hanso website. (I don't know if it is in "Bad Twin".)

What is your opinion of the http://www.defendinghanso.org/ website? It is almost passive in its approach to creating an opposing narrative, in comparison to Save Joop. I know it was originally created by fans to establish their journalistic credentials when dealing with Hanso's public relations department. (Too bad that didn't get a similar nod from TLE.)

I am in favor of players adding their own depth to the game, to fill the void, as long as they don't try to steer the main narrative off course.

We're going to try and keep the narrative on-course. But we might have to stir up a little controversy to get attention if it doesn't pick up.

It seems pretty clear to me that the Valenzetti equation is at the center of everything Hanso Foundation is researching.

What was a mathematician doing at a mental health facility?

I'm sure we'll find out about the valenzetti equation exactly when abc wants us to. Theres obviously no information on it on the web or no books because abc made it up and abc didnt write any books. Considering this was all planned out to follow a pretty strict calendar I doubt anything we do will reveal the equation any earlier.

True. The "real" purpose of the the blog is to hopefully give the PTB an avenue to make contact with us, the players.

It's worth a try. And it gives me something to do in between clues, etc.
