Puzzle Bistro puzzles

For a little while I ran a website, puzzlebistro.com, where I posted a new puzzle every weekday. Due to IRC discussion I am posting one from those days which seems particularly ARG-y:

----

Your secret clubhouse changes its secret password every week. Jimmy Falken always hides a sheet of paper with the password under a rock near the tree ladder -- to remind himself in case he forgets. He disguises the message in a clever manner so that the password is not easily discovered by the enemy (the bullies in the treehouse three blocks down). This is the paper Jimmy hid, what's the password for this week?

MISTING
OPTIONS
BANALITIES
STAKED
INTONES
SYMPHONIST

----

I have more, of course. Let me know if you want some.

EDIT - moved to "Timewasters" with the other puzzle trails. - SG

It is indeed the answer, freshness.

I've been digging through my archives and realized my sense of difficult back then was wildly variable. But all of these I'd call about average. I suppose the last one could be called Simultaneous Hangman.
