According to this thread it's a form of ancient Chinese though, although I have no clue if that's verifiable...

Symbol Actually it seems to be the number 1 as it is used on Chinese Currency
http://www.tooter4kids.com/china/ChinaTalk_Chinese_Money_and_Counting.htm
We've also had roman numbers on the bottle and now on this puzzle.
I wonder what other types of numbers might make it into the mix

Bermuda I've seen talk about people seeing a key in a tree in Bermuda. Anyone else see something like that? I don't see it.
I do see RA51 lightly in the big tree to the left, but I don't think that is anything more than random pixels. No sign of a key...

how much do you wanna bet that these 'random numbers' wont be random at all? i would honestly put money on the fact that volvo, for the final challenge, releases a clue about going thru the past travels and finding the numbers, and using that as the final coordinates. It would weed out all the non-serious competitors (and give us an advantage haha)

Funny! Does any one find it funny that the chinese symbol for 1 used on bank notes can be found on Pulau Jong and Isla Mas A Tierras?

I called it a one a long time ago. It would seem that the same symbol used on Más A Tierras was to reinforce the definition of it, as you need it to determine the coordinated of Cape Horn. Unless someone's counting a lone rock and calling that a 'one,' we must conclude that the symbol on P Jong is also a one. You don't even need to look up Chinese character numerals to determine it.
(very little of the game REQUIRES searching for answers in other references, much of it is common sense and deduction)

[DISCUSSION / REQUEST] - Odd numbers and symbols Hi everybody!
Hope the hunt is going well for you all. I know, like myself, you must all be itching for your next fix in a few days time on the 30th june!
I wish to compile a list of all the randomly placed, odd - nubers or symbols that we have all been noticing and spotting. You know.... like the 5, tally, scratched on the wall in madeira. The 7, in tally form, in the caves at the top of the rope ladder.... stuff like that. I was wondering if you all would like to help, then we would all have a definitive list should they be required for whatever reason. It would also help you guys out that are looking at possible finding the mystery location.
So, if people would like to add their findings here in the few days we have to rest from puzzle solving, I and everybody else on this forum would much appreciate it. Who knows what you have seen and maybe missed!
For one, did you join up every star on Diomede Island? Was there stuff there? the rainforest, on trees and faint letters being seen, spot them?
If so, lets let each other know!
Good luck! Jase

your possible 1 / 7 on Diomede are the constellations Canis Minor and Monoceros, not numbers

It seems we shouldn't count the
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Chinese symbol for "1"
on Isla Mas a Tierras as it was part of the answer.
Maybe they were preparing us by giving us that earlier so we would know what it meant by the time we needed to use it?

It seems that you have all missed the mark on the plate in Tropic of Cancer.
The shard with the "N" on it does fit in to the reconstruction. The "N" is not the hidden symbol here....it's "E".
Reconstruct the plate again and you will all see that the original plate had a large "W" and a large "S" on the outside rim of the plate. These were used in the riddle. But the small "N" is found under the chin of one of the dragons and by the process of elimination...a small "E" should be under the chin of the other dragon.
However, the small "E" is not there because that is exactly where the plate was shot to break it in the first place. A perfectly round hole can be found where the letter would have been had the plate not been shot.
