[UPDATE] New Speaker Post - New website?

Speaker mentioned in his new post about a website called http://www.sitonamonkey.com/ which is linked through the savejoop.com website.
Speaker wrote:
There was also a new RoT thread. (Dudes, add them to your messengers and IM them! Seriously!) AND there were some questions about the legitimacy of certain sites.

Okay, that's actually a few things we can talk about - but I usually go over all of that stuff in my weekly Round-Ups. I guess I could talk about that site I keep getting e-mails on, but I honestly know nothing about it. Looking through it was amusing and I might have to send in a picture, but really, I know as much (as little?) as you guys and gals on this one.

Any thoughts or comments on this, guys? Catherwood?

Both sitonamonkey (despite it's 108th post having weird comments) and savejoop.com are all fansites.

Well, that's what I was told earlier today when everyone jumped on me in the IRC... When all I did was ask for a little help in solving a password for the sitonamonkey.com website. Yeah, I guess it is a fansite even though Speaker mentioned it in his main post. Right? Time will tell.

Well, speaker has also mentioned savejoop before (and cited it as a fansite) and as this is a continuation of the savejoop shenanigans I'm relatively assured it's not.

Also, the password for the "box" if that's what you're looking for is

Is it beyond the realm of possibility for the PTB to use fansites as an outlet?

Speaker has also mentioned my blog in the comments section on his. He even asked that I post a link.

I think it's completely possible that the PTB have chosen to release information via so-called "fansites". As long as they don't break character, they aren't breaking any rules.

Except for here, of course.

That kind've precident, while cool, causes much confusion. It brings into question many sites that aren't directly linked to the Experience. It can cause questions of validity for many puzzles, and end up in disappointment for some who persue clues that lead to dead-ends of unfinished fan projects.

Of course it's possible. But it seems very unlikely. First of all, what kind of information could the PMs reasonably release through a fansite? Consider the fact that this ARG is driven by an overarching narrative, presumably one that has been planned and laid out in advance (e.g., we've already learned about the 3 acts). The PMs want to dole out information which will drive the game forward in a way that serves the interests of their narrative. That probably doesn't allow for the luxury of making game-critical stuff up on the fly in order to suit the context of fan-produced sites. Therefore, any 'information' would have to be flavoring, intended to add spice to this Experience rather than driving the story forward. So that's possible, I suppose, but not very interesting.

Furthermore, any information found on a fansite would be automatically subject to scrutiny. It doesn't serve the needs of the game in any way to have ambiguous or questionable material floating around out there (for example, the 'restraining order' against savejoop.com that was found today, through this new monkey blog, just seemed created discomfort and uncertainty more than anything. What good did that serve?). As I've complained about before, this Experience already has a horrible signal-to-noise ratio as it is. Originally it seemed as if part of Speaker's job was going to be to serve as a verifier or gatekeeper for what's "official" and what isn't, but as we all know by now, he is just as prone to muddy the waters as anyone else. My general sense is that although he has the PM's digits on his cell phone, he is certainly not someone who is 'in the know' about how the game is being run. I suspect that the PMs have an appreciation for fan-driven content and are happy to acknowledge well-organized fan efforts with a mention on the blog or on Jimmy Kimmel, but that is a far cry from establishing these sites as part of the game.

You are right that there are no rules for this kind of thing, but there is common sense. I know that we probably differ on this point, but my common sense tells me that some of these new things coming to light are not 'in-game' in any real way.

Hopefully the mods, or someone else, can determine if this site is OOG or not, but in the meantime, where are you seeing the need for a password on this site?

Not wanting to perpetuate this if it is just a fan site, but for the sake of explanation:

Check out the blog comments to picture 108. They include a link to

Password is DI 9FFTR731

Also, there was a second document, but that was taken down due to a research error on someone's part. Wizardry from TLEC was kind enough to upload a copy.

Wow. If this is OOG, then someone's got too much time on their hands to be faking up cool shit like this.

I think this is what happened in this instance.

You're right, it is not very interesting in relation to the overarching narrative.

All we did is pursue clarification on why we should follow it as a lead. No one called you names or anything, so I don't think you were jumped on. Just don't take it personally if others don't agree with your assessment of a site. It semes to be a much more critical group here than the average blog/group playing the TLE.

Anyway, I'm starting to feel it's just a extra bit of flavor and not an avenue for plot continuation, as has been mentioned.

Interesting. My assumption here is that those are fan-produced letters, although they did a pretty good job of at least making them look in-game--especially the first one with the top corner erased (although typically it would have been smudged out) and the copy-and-pasted Peter Thompson signature. I say this because I don't really get where this even could be headed as far as the ARG. Rather, it appears to be an attempt to make "Save Joop" and "randomshirts.com" seem like credible in-game sites as though we should look there for more clues. But haven't we determined that these two sites are OOG. But until we can conform this site and these letters to be OOG, we can't totally discount them.
