I also have something to contribute, I suppose. I forget where I've read it in my research of here, but someone said the password was 5 characters long, I think. Then it struck me, the dog. The dog's name is Oscar. Perhaps that's the password.
Hi droogs.
I'm from a different forum.
I plan on reading this whole thread, but I haven't yet so forgive me if someone already mentioned this.
I'm not sure what dog you are talking about here...but...oscar could refer to
Open Source Cluster Application Resources
(OSCAR)
http://oscar.openclustergroup.org/
They have a map too

You guys seem pretty smart, come by and check out our dojo..

wellll.....

I onl saw this site a couple hours ago. This is the best I can figure out...
Despite a registrant being idetified in Australia, I'm inclined to believe it's a project based in USA because of ISP location in TX and the use of the midnight rollover on American East Coast time.
THe dots are specifically placed on the map and despite there being no visible difference between them, numbers are still used to identify the graphic. The numbers are not in a consecutive or any logical order. I'd imagine the dots and their corresponding numbers are possibly code.

I wonder if anyone has tried to decipher the codes in a biblical sense, as the site seems to use it often. The reference to C22:S13 as a possible reference to Revelations and "ALpha and Omega." Not to mention the eighth eon, a refence to apocalyptical times.
Some Bible decoders have pointed to that date as a possible attack.
http://stupidevilbastard.com/index/seb/comments/bible_decoders_apply_tried_and_true_tactic_of_pushing_the_date_back/

On the Hebrew calendar, July 1st corresponds with the fifth of Tamuz. However, this date has no real significance. The best I know is that Ezekiel had his prophesy of the Chariot that day.

More mundane events, such as the Discovery launch date, are taking place that day as well.

I'd say that this has a very good chance of being a small scale publicity stunt aimed a specific community of people or gamers or hackers or whatever. The site lacks enough hype for it to be a marketing ploy on a large-scale level.

But all this are just my humble observations

I arrived from the same place as Ragnar. The site has intrigued me. In MG, a fellow member posted some interesting info:
Quote:
Okay, my friend and I have been working on this for a while, and we figured out that all the deployment logs are in hexadecimal. I did some work, and decoded a lot of the hex, and a lot of it's kinda confusing. There's a lot of references to Iraq, and one to china, a lot of Aviation protocol involved.

It's pretty interesting. Also, there's another site, www.eon8.com/security, but I think pretty much everyone knows about that site by now. Anyways, this is what I know. There's a script on the front of the page hidden that begins with E-12, which is a security reference.

That's what I know.

So, I hope this helps in any way.

Those of you familiar with ytmnd know that it is a site mostly for jokes however this domain isn't a joke and may provide some useful information for you. It gets updated fairly often.
already beat you to posting it

It's counting down to, I think, June 29th or 30th, 2006.

View source to see plainly
var launch=new Date('00:00:00 July 01, 2006');
which is midnight June 30th, server time, which I believe appears to be East Coast USA. (EDT Daylight Savings Time Zone)

Actually it's CST Central time

EDT and CST are the same thing -sigh- You're both right, sorta, but technically it's EDT since Daylight Savings Time is currently observed.

Lufia, just so you know the server it's hosted on is a the-planet.com server and has some of the best packet filtering of any company so a DDoS of the site would be very hard to pull off.

Ok a made a little headway by doing one of the simplest things. You know you can download HTML files by right clicking a link right?

Well you should. This goes for password protected areas as well.

Anyway right click on any of the three links and click save link as, since I use firefox this pops up a nice little box that allows me to view what I am saving, this is also the same time the certificate pops up. Stall for a moment till the file finishes then click yes on the certificate, forcing the file to not be automatically deleted as it usually would.

Anyway I came up with a nice small HTML file with such:

<html>
<head>
<title>E8 :: [eon8]</title>
</head>
<body bgcolor="#000000" text="#FFFFFF" link="#FFFFFF" vlink="#CCCCCC" alink="#CCCCCC">

<table width="500" height="80%">
<tr><td valign="middle" align="center">E8 :: [eon8] - Access Denied
<h2>S53:A - ACCESS DENIED</h2>
You have attempted to access a restricted area (S53:A).<br>
This action has been recorded.<br><br>
<a href="http://www.eon8.com">Please return to the home page</a>

</td></tr>
</table>

</body>
</html>

All three pull up this same HTML page.

This tells us one of two things at least, that the passworded areas are nothing at yet, and have no content whatsoever even if you did manage to have a password, or that they redirect to another well hidden site.

Edit: Nevermind. Its the same file that pops if you cancel the password. Hur. Thought I did something constructive. Oh wells.

ive been looking into this eon8 thing for the past 4-5 hours and im not sure what ot make of it im so confused im 14 and i live in edmonton alberta and im not sleeping till this gets figured out thisi s so confusing my first guess was a massive virus luanch and every where on that map would be infected and computers would be knocked out all around the world then i thought it was just some kids fooling around trying to pull a massive hoax but after reading this 23 page forum it sounds way ot complex for a couple of kids to do.

I am surprised no one is really looking at the Eon5.com picture that much? The first thing that struck me is that it looked inverted, so I inverted it in photoshop. I pointed out some things that look odd to me-
http://dfclan.org/wazzledoozle/eon5.jpg

Comments? I inverted the whole image, and solarized the area that looks like some pipes.
