[Email] Peter - Mysterytown June 28

I gave Peter the link to Dale's journal, hoping he would contact Dale before going to Aglaura. I also asked about shared or similar dreams, telling him about Sarah's and Dale's dreams.

Quote:
Hi nax,

I've done a little bit of research in the past on shared hallucinations/dreams.
It's widely known in the medical field that these are usually shared by people
in close contact with one another. Invariably, a combination of two factors
leads the patient to believe that he has shared a dream or vision with another
person. First, the two people have shared the same experiences before
dreaming, or one has told the other about an experience he had in vivid detail.
This causes the patients to have similar, but not identical dreams. Then, due
to information sharing after the dream - conflagrated by the malleable nature
of dream memories - the two or more patients come to a consensus about the
contents of the "shared" dream. Freudians have some very detailed theories
about why we seek to create a "shared" dream from two different ones, but as
usual I think they are overanalyzing; it's human nature to seek a consensus on
reality, and given the vividness and emotional content of dreams, it makes us
feel better to "know" what "actually happened."

If the two dreamers are still convinced that they are having shared visions, I
suggest that you do this. Each morning, before they speak to each other, have
each person write down the details of their dream exactly as they remember
them. When you compare the two, you should see that while the two dreams may
flow along similar avenues of thought, they will not be identical. Every study
attempting to explain shared dreams with ESP has been proven to be either wildly
innacurate or plain cooked. I hope that answers your question.

In any case, I'll send this guy Dale an email. Maybe he knows something about
the Woods Walker. Or maybe I can get him some sleeping pills on the cheap.

For completeness here is the mail I sent.

Quote:
Hey Peter,

Heh, sure you can call me nax. So this woods walker wants you to visit Aglaura. Interesting, to say the least. One of my friends decoded those paragraphs you posted on your website. You know the ones you got in the emails from "the walker". I'm sure he's contacted you about them. The phrase he found was "Aglaura, new name, old secrets".

I thought you might want to contact one of the residents of Aglaura, Dale Sprague. He runs a website design business, called Synthasia. He recently released the first of a series of graphic novels. The books are like a diary of sorts, describing some rather unusual dreams. His dreams recount, in vivid detail, events that supposedly never took place.

Dale keeps an online journal at http://www.thewishcomic.com/journal/index.html but there are other hidden entries as well. Like here http://www.thewishcomic.com/journal/061606.html In this entry he describes six masks that are speaking to him, then shattering into pieces. Now the odd thing about this, six masks were stolen from the library not more then 3 weeks ago. They were part of an exhibit that accompanied a book written by the head librarian, Sarah Wyatt. You can find more of Dale's hidden journal entries, just by trying different dates in the address bar.

Now this gets curiouser and curiouser. You see, Sarah Wyatt, whom I mentioned above, is also suffering from the same type of dreams. Check out her blog, http://www.sixthofnever.com/ Being a medical student, maybe you've heard of this type of shared experience or is there some secret in Aglaura that bears investigating?

If there's anything I can do, let me know.

Your friend,

nax

Got an email reply from Peter tonight as well.

Quote:
Sandra,

Thanks for the encouraging words. No unusual dreams here, unless you count the
one where I can't find a customer's paperwork and my manager is chasing me with
a tiny axe. And yes, I am planning to visit Aglaura as soon as I can find the
damn place. You don't happen to be a local with some mapmaking skills, do you?

As for the other questions, well, I think my motivations are a little too
complicated and a little too personal to be putting into an email to a perfect
stranger. Maybe I'll write about them in by book - quite possibly I already
have.

P.S. Whenever anyone tells me to be careful what I wish for, I always wish for a bunny. Then it'll be a giant fire-breathing sabertooth bunny, and I can tame it and rule the world!

Quite a sense of humor he has. Guess I'll write him and suggest he ask Dale how to find the town.

The email I sent to him:

Hi, Peter,

I suppose by now you're getting used to seeing new email addresses in your inbox and I'm another one of them. I've been interested in what is going on in the town of Aglaura - and that lead me to your website and those mysterious (no pun intended) emails you've been receiving.

One of the things I've not seen you mention is how you got interested in the abandoned towns. I was wondering if there was something in your background that might have drawn you to them. I can see your fascination with them. I've always been curious about abandoned buildings or when out for a walk finding what looks to be the foundation of a building. Can't help but wonder who the people were who built it and what became of them.

This might sound odd - but have you been having any unusual dreams? Sometimes a dream will give us a clue as to what is going on and what we are to do. Have you ever concentrated on a question before you go to sleep and then it comes to you in the morning? It's worked for me at times.

Also, can't help but ask about your Great American Novel. Don't all of us who are unpublished writers have one of those tucked away in the back of our minds somewhere. Take a bit of advice from someone with many more years on this fair Earth - don't wait. Write it - even if it takes years - but just write.

And lastly, have you made any plans to visit Aglaura and investigate the abandoned buildings in the area? It certainly seems as though your cryptic email is pushing you in that direction. Course I suppose that could be both a good and bad thing.

Just be careful - and beware of what you wish for.

Cordially,

Sandra

Shame on me for being too busy to notice that Peter emailed me back a couple of days ago. Here you go:

Another curious reader pointed out that the walls could easily be the walls of
the library in Aglaura, NJ - the town I discovered from the Woods Walker's last
batch of mail. However, I think she was also soliciting signatures for a
petition to save the library from being torn down, so she might have had an
ulterior motive for saying that.

Empirically speaking, we can only assume that the "walls" are somewhere in
Aglaura, since that is the best location data the Walker has given so far.
This is, of course, assuming that the Woods Walker is sane; an assumption which
I hold only on the principle that it affords me any leads into this mystery at
all. I hope that answers your question.

My "question" wasn't anything earth-shaking. My email to Peter with the information about the latest message from the Walker in the Woods ended with:

So, ANSWERS ARE WITHIN THE WALLS. Any idea what that could mean?
