If anyone is looking for a hotel roommate, I need someplace to stay if I'm going to go. naturally, I'll chip in!

After reading the chatter in response to imbri's livejournal post on the same topic, I'm going to add to my suggestions. I suggest we have firm recommendations for

1) dinner friday (maybe near the hotel since people will be arriving at all hours, although downtown may present more post dinner options),

2) lunch Saturday (somewhere downtown) so people can circle back after doing touristy things (or can roll out of bed late and have a reason to haul ass downtown to lunch before they do touristy things)(let the touristy thing groups form on their own)

3) dinner Saturday (krystyn's suggestion of Reza's sounds good. Um what do they serve?)

4) brunch Sunday

And, I will quibble a bit about the planning-ness of the ARGFest before NYC. That was Vancouver. Planning? Other than the killer whale watching trip, we met for breakfast in the morning and I made a suggestion (let's go up this scenic mountain thing!) and everybody said OK. But with a group of 6 people that was all the planning we really needed.

Orlando (before that) had some planning but also a lot of ad hoc stuff. Required some good staying in touch as things developed. Turns out we're pretty good at that.

The wiki link has a direct link to Reza's website where they have their dinner menu (with prices) listed.

I love their dill rice, and if you get the hummus appetizer and share it, it's super-cheap, and very satisfying. For meat eaters, all of the kebabs I've tried there have been delicious. The restaurant itself is pretty, too.

Reza's banquet package

Reza's does indeed operate on a banquet package deal. I have reserved a room for us from 7PM-10PM, but I would need to go in and sign a contract, and put money down.

The cheapest package is listed thusly:
Reza's website wrote:

$21.95 per Person (Five Course Dinner)

Try 3 appetizers, 3 entrees

Soup, Salad, dessert & soft drinks

CHOICE OF THREE APPETIZERS:
1. Hummus
2. Grilled Mushrooms –Highly recommended
3. Grilled potatoes
4. Baba Ghanouj
5. Cous Cous
6. Vegetarian Dolmeh
7. Kashkeh Bodemjan
8. Tabbouli
9. Maust Khiar
10. Falafel

CHOICE OF THREE ENTREES:
1. Filet Mignon Shish Kabob (Chengeh or Barg)
2. Boneless Chicken Breast Kabob
3. Seasoned Ground Beef Kabob (Koubideh)
4. Chicken Koubideh
5. Lamb Shank
6. Ghemieh Bodemjan (Eggplant beef stew)
7. Fessenjan (Cornish Hen in Pomegranate sauce)

I am (understandably) a little nervous about having to put down large amounts of cash, so I'd like a little help here on how to go about making this happen.

This is a big city, and so pretty much any restaurant that can handle parties between 30-40 people (I took a guess, based on the attendees list on the wiki) is going to have a pay structure like this.

Help me help you. Smile Thoughts?

(The entrees are fairly meat-heavy, but I am sure we can work something out where one of them is simply veggie kabobs or something.)

I think I would rather make reservations for our group, but let everyone order off the menu, instead of paying for a banquet-style meal. Then you don't have to put any money down and we can all eat as little or as much as we are willing to pay for.

I am not sure they can accomodate 30-40 people in their regular dining area, which is why I am bringing this to the table. I'd really hate to have people all sitting at different tables, and possibly not even getting a table in a timely manner, with separate reservations.

They're a very busy restaurant on a Saturday night.

Then I can go with the flow. Once we make a decision, I can paypal you the $22 up front to help with your deposit.

mmmm sounds yummmmmy.

I'll certainly help cover some of the upfront costs. And, yeah, such a large group will be hard to manage on the fly. And, the one nice thing about having a room is that it will be "our" space and we won't have to worry about table hopping and distracting other guests.

Thanks so much for looking into this Krystyn. My anxiety level from yesterday has plummeted. You rock Smile

Sounds like fun!

If need be, I can help cover the deposit too.

And thank you very very much to all who have worked on planning.

I just called them again, because I really wonder how necessary a banquet room might be. They take HUGE reservations, without requiring the room.

Like, parties twice as large as the guesstimate I made for us earlier.

So, shall we go with a regular reservation, then? Like I said, the place is big, and they're not requiring the banquet room for a large party ...

I guess, on reflection, I'd hate for someone to bow out because of the food selection, or the price (even though it's not terribly expensive, I know people are looking to save wherever possible), or whatever.

So. If you are coming to ARGfest, and you'd like to go to Reza's, please, PLEASE put yr name on le wiki. PLZ thankseverso.

ETA: I am instituting a deadline. Respond on the wiki by THIS SUNDAY, JULY 9th, so that I may call Reza's with an accurate headcount. You can still decide to come later, but you will not be guaranteed seating with the ARG party, is all. Cool? Cool. I will make that res then, if we get to Sunday, and the banquet idea is a no-go. I will pull that res, and no one'll need to pay anything ahead of time.

I'm in for Reza's, and TMLMTBGB. Yes, I've put my name on the Wiki. For anyone who is reading this and isn't sure if they want to go, I can tell you right now, you do. The show is amazing, totally worth it, and a bargin, even at $13.

In case it was missed on the wiki, I can't make this one. The move to the new house was more taxing financially and time-wise. Sorry, but I will be there in spirit.
