has anyone got a combination that works with only one end?

We've seen them with two ends (most of the audio etc)

and with no ends (most of the text/diagnostic reports)

but I haven't seen one with only one end in it, which would presumably be another layer of information...

I get the same results so far. Even with using Flushes and Copies, I can't get the result to change so far.

it doesnt appear to matter if you double the mount command or if you use rotate copy instead of rotate rotate or copy copy

The files for end-end changed on the hour. Putting details on wiki.

It looks like (by UTC) the times are divided as so:
1-3:
4-6: Suspicious delivery guy -- Krsa algorithm
7-9:
10-12: Over and out (?) -- ??
13-15: Getting dodgy (?) -- ??
16-18: 14th of July (?) -- ??
19-21: "Themes" for encryption work -- "drinks" conversation
22-24: packing crate missing -- alternate to-do list

The (?) marks are because we didn't keep careful track of time and they might be one of the earlier times and we just missed a gap somehow.

The ?? marks are the other files the voice ones are paired up with. I vaguely recall the 14th of July one didn't have a paired file, but I figure it's worth a doublecheck just in case.

EDIT: Checked at 5:15, moved Krsa appropriately. Been gone in between so I missed 1-3 if it exists. Did anybody check during that time? (Not totally sure still if it's 3 hour intervals -- could be 4 hour, in which case we have all the recordings.)

transcript of the 'quantum'/'Encryption themes' log:

Quote:
I saw my dad the other day so, thanks, he told me about everything and... Well I'm, I'm just glad there's a point to all this; he's... he's looking much better... and I suppose that means that you're happy with how I'm doing, so I'm... probably on the right track?

I've been keeping an eye on the deliveries here, um I don't think there has been anything funny for weeks now, but , you'know, I might have missed something. There have been a couple of odd projects coming across my desk though. Nobody ever gets the full picture here, but I've noticed some themes in the encryption work I'm doing, for a start it's pretty advanced, everything's been marked for 'quantum' (which isn't perfect yet, but it's about the highest level we've got). But <sigh> there are a couple of words that keep coming up too and... well, I <stumbles over words> I don't have a clear picture of what they mean, but maybe they'll mean something to you, the sender or the recipient is always called 'Viendenbourg' and there are all these references to 'the material' and how much of it they've got. I know I'm not seeing all the messages, they spread the work around – you'know, security - but only a few of us can handle quantum encryption so I'm seeing a fair chunk of the correspondence. It just seems odd it needs to be so secret, so... that's why I mention it.

I'd better go soon, there's umm, a protest outside the museum and it will take me ages to get past them. Anyway... I can't think of anything else... nope that's it.

can also be found on the wikki

Oop, some triplicated effort going on - I posted Izzy's transcript to the wiki but good job achenar and mico too.

I've also added a couple of approximate recording times to the audio entries on the wiki, based on Sentinel articles. More are probably needed...

I'm absolutely useless for actually accessing stuff through the backdoor, so I thought I'd transcribe the latest audio file. If someone wants to wikify it, that'd be great. Smile

Reference to the Museum protest would date this piece of audio to sometime late September or early October 2005. Two articles from the Sentinel told us on Monday September 26th and then the following week, Monday October 3rd of protests being held on the previous weekends.

The protests were against the controversial exhibit on "The War" - chief amongst the ranks of those wielding placards outside were the "Peace Watchers", led by 80-year old botanist Soo-Yung Rosenthal. Probably not directly related to our cryptography sleuthing, but useful information for us to be able to build up a timeline with.

New audio file's been found - not by me, but I've just transcribed it.

Quote:
Well, hello again.
<sigh> I hate talking into these things.
Hang on, I think someone's coming! <rustly noises>
No, no, it's alright.
Right, okay... that packing case... it's disappeared.
I don't know when it went, but it's not there today. So I.. I think I saw it a couple of days ago... that was the last time. Not much help, I know.
I gave the case a bit of a kick the other day, to see if I could hear what was in there. I think it was tech stuff.
Anyway, I'm meeting up with a guy for lunch tomorrow, and he's kind of a hardware freak. So I might try kind of nudging him, see if there's anything going on. He's a nice guy, so he might be helpful.
I'm not going to do anything, y'know, just to get information for you. It's bad enough sneaking around like this. I can't just talk to people anymore, it's like I'm always interrogating them, even my friends. I can't look at anything without suspecting it.
It'll do my head in.
<sigh> You'd better look after your side of the bargain.
It's the only reason i'm doing this.

Morning there guys (here in the UK).

Just checked

end end mount -- -- / -- -- cache copy -- / -- -- rotate copy -- / -- -- rotate zone --

(for the latest audio file)

It's cycled round again to the "Audio: Suspicious delivery guy"
at 8:35 GMT

Maybe we've got all the audio files? It was mused on IRC last night that they changed every 3 hours (changed at 11 gmt last night), and we have 6, which means that we would be missing 2 (presuming that there is a new file every three hours, and they cycle)

0200:1:0500:2:0800:3:1100:4:1400:5:1700:6:2000:7:2300:8:¬
<-----------------------------------------------------------------------/

or am I down completly the wrong track.....

edit:
Maybe all the audio file commands link to the same "place", and it changes according to time, but we didn't spot this as we found the commands at different times? (we might be able to include the "KRSA algorithm" as one of the files)
/edit

Mornin'... I think you're on the right track jonc, yeah - I was kinda hoping they'd cycle, otherwise we'd be missing a whole bunch from various times, so yay Smile

I think your "edit" speculation is pretty much on, too. The only slight "spanner" in consistency is the fact that the number of files seems to change over time too - sometimes (usually?) there's only 1 audio fie accessible, but sometimes that changes to include some text files (e.g. the KRSA one and the todo list) as well.

I figure there must be a reason for the files to change regularly - it can't just be a deus ex machina plot device to keep us going, can it? Like, maybe the back door logs in from a different "point" in the file system (only revealable after a couple of ENDs) to evade some kind of security mechanism?

Depending on what it's doing, the commands to access different files may change or not, as I see it.

BTW, a few names have been bandied around about who this is, including Lyssa Ling and (ok, just by me Wink ) Karen Moro. Could we keep track of some of these plausible suggestions on the Wiki, linking to possible evidence and such for each one?

for reasons previously mentioned *and* from listening to both the bar none and walkthrough phone messages, i don't think it is violet.

so far the evidence we seem to have is :- works for crypto, has a father (possibly prominent and/or ill), knows quantum encryption (possibly on the white paper? - abigail cienaga, karen moro), lives in the artist's quarter (near helix house)

i don't think the mysterious person is blackmailing or threatening her father, rather offering some kind of medical help that he would probably die without - hence why she thanks them for him getting better and stuff.

i think this also points to the mysterious person being helena frye, rather than any of the evil 3p, as they possibly wouldnt be so kind in their recruitment deals.

rach =)

It was mentioned in chat last night (first by Cassandra I think) that Kurt was 'going out' / 'not going out' with a girl from Crypto, when he and Violet were trying to get hold of the Granier Diary.

Coincidence? Maybe

Has anyone asked Kurt about this girl yet? We might have a big lead already to get more information.... although he may just resort to his old tactics of chasing her halfway across the country before accidentally killing her Laughing

EDIT: typo

****SPEC**** Could even have put the father on the ceratin 5 trials? **** SPEC****

I've also emailed Kurt suggesting that there's a possibility the girl in crypto he dated was this one?

Finally - the files change over ever three hours? 11pm last night - that would mean 2am, 5am and 8am - but they changed over at 9am as far as I could tell?

If the mysterious person put the father on the ceretin trial, the dad would be getter better regardless of our mole's performance no?

Perhaps the mysterious person was Miranda? She wouldn't have needed all her Ceretin 6 to kill Isaac, would she? Perhaps she is using some of her stash to blackmail someone whose prominent father had that disease she was pretending to have?

Don't know how we'd check that out though.

Neither of Kurt's previous "girlfriends" really fits the bill unfortunately - there was an un-named "girl-from-anthro" :-

Quote:
7 Sept. 2005 3.46pm

From: Kurt McAllister
To: Von Lubik
Subject: Tonight
Date: 7 Sept. 2005 3.46pm

Grrr. Does no one remember that girl in the anthro team I went out with for *six weeks* in the spring?!

Then we have Sarah, referred to initially here, and then subsequently here and then finally here - where she is discarded in favour of a much nicer girl - name of Miranda, you might have heard of her perchance? Sarah is a Military Historian, not a cryptographer, and there is no mention of a Sarah anywhere within the Cryptology department's Faculty listing.

I won't re-iterate, yet again, the assembled information we currently hold on our mystery woman, we've got enough repetition in this thread already, in this thread already, in this thread already. But I do have to indulge in a big, glutinous ladleful of "WTF?" at the point about the blackmailers in this case being "kind" in their dealings. The first audio file discovered commences with the line:-

Mystery Woman wrote:
If he dies, you realise that's it. You can do what you like to me - I don't care about me.

It just doesn't quite strike me as being particularly kind or, y'know cuddly in it's phrasing. Maybe I misread it. Maybe holding the threat of a parent's death over someone, in order to co-erce them into working for you is commonplace in Perplex City. *shrugs*

J

P.S. Ceretin trials? Why Ceretin? It's a cognitive enhancer, Ceretin V being commonly available, Ceretin VI was just the next iteration of it - Miranda used it to off Cymballisty, but as far as we're aware, it wasn't anything which would save someone's life.

If you're referring to her father possibly suffering with Barrow-Feld Syndrome, then the drug trial you're looking at is for Veritana. Veritana is still currently in trial, as reported here. Unfortunately, the dates on this don't seem to tie up that well either - the trial started in "late 266" (even before the theft of the Receda Cube)

This doesn't necessarily rule it out entirely of course, perhaps our blackmailers have sufficient clout to have someone inserted onto the drug program midway through.

P.P.S. Juxta puts down the R.S.M. gun, giving it a loving pat
