The Path of Least Time, July 7th - A Voice from the Past

Violet shared with me the information that Caine has gleaned from Crypto. I must admit, I've been impressed by his social engineering skills, as well as your efforts. The files you unearthed are interesting for all kinds of reasons.

What first caught my attention was the hardware. All of this missing tech is high-end, and most of it is for specialist use. I don't know if these are all parts of a single device or if there's some kind of production line being developed, but in any case, I suspect there are more items on their shopping list.

Cross-referencing with the serial numbers Anna was given by Henrik, we can see that the stolen parts were a Reynolds ioniser, Klebold plates, an atomic clock and a high-power conjugate laser. There's also another item (ref 460WDN-4X) we haven't identified yet - no doubt it's profiled somewhere in the Crypto database, so it's only a matter of time before you find that too. Once we get an idea of the parts they've taken, maybe we'll be able to work out what they're building - and what they'll need next.

The other attention-grabbing information was in the audio files. Once again, it seems that you're taking a peculiar interest in my private life. Your interest is justified. Listening to the recordings, it sounds a lot like Karen Moro, who I had lunch with back in July last year. I'm pretty sure I asked her out, rather than the other way round, but thinking back, maybe she was more devious than I'd given her credit for.

Admittedly, it wasn't the most stimulating lunch I've ever had, but I didn't feel like I was being grilled for information. I can't remember talking about hardware much. Then again, I can't remember much of the meal at all. Karen's a really sweet, sharp girl. I never would have suspected that she was under so much pressure. Either she's a good actress or I'm just not a great reader of people. I'm willing to accept either hypothesis.

Knowing what we know now, I think it's worth me having another chat with Karen. We have a lot to catch up on.

Perhaps he could get the hospital bed next to Karen's Dad and watch to see who is slipping him the Micky Finn.

You think we could get him a book of discounted stays? Stay 10 times, get the 11th free?

So the Mystery Woman was Karen Moro then, who co-wrote the 268 White Paper

The white paper was on Quantum Entanglement...

A description of which can be found here... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quantum_entanglement

My guess would be that, when combined with the other pieces of stollen equipment, this was directly linked to either the analysis or transportation of the cube... (But that's purely spec on my part... Smile )

The Perplexians have a Flux Time Capacitor?! Doc Brown is going to be pissed that they swiped his idea, even if they did mangle the name.

[spec=ridiculous]This explains how the Cube was gone before 3P got it. Sente went back in time, "stole" the cube to keep it out of 3P's hands, and then went forward in time. He got Earth involved to direct 3P's attentions here while he could bide his time to figure out where the moles were. Instead of finding the cube, we're just the hounds that are flushing out the 3P quail.[/spec]

I came to this whole thing pretty late, and I'm still catching up with the story, but I like that idea. It does make some kind of sense to me despite being a little conspiratorial.

Edit: to put the quote in properly

So, if we're gonna go ahead and spec 'til the cows come home, I have this to say.

SPECULATIONationationationationationation

The Klebold plates, powered by the battery and the ionizers, and triggered by the atomic clock, set off a hologram of the cube exactly as the non-3P power stole it some period before the ball night, and it remained there as a decoy until realized by the 3P theft team, who grabbed at only air, thus it being there until the night of the robbery, but them never having it, and possibly dealt with by other parties beforehand. Sente, as the head of this non-3P team, organized it as a way to stash the Cube while he prepared his drillamadoodle in Viendenbourg, knowing that us Earth rubes would find it under his guidance, take it out of "storage", and put it right back in his hands, giving him the power to rule the (other) world while framing the whole incident on 3P.

That cunning b*st*rd! Shocked

Hmm.

If Sente's the bad guy, how come he's waited all this time to steal the Cube?

Further spec:

Maybe someone, one of the people who was murdered, got wind of the 3P plan, pre-emptively stole the Cube and hid it on Earth to safeguard it from 3P, then was subsequently murdered ... there by losing the cube and creating a scramble by 3P and the local authorities to decipher 1) who stole it, and 2) the location he/she hid the cube.

Either or both:

a) because he found out the 3P were planning to 'rescue' it.
b) because it's taken him this long to work out how to build the machine to get it to Earth to test its scary weapontastic powers.

Come on, duckie, liberate yourself from the tyrannical demands of that blinkered despot, Evidence! Join us, and together we will roam free over the varied topography of that unbounded land, Intuition and dance in the shady woods of Brainstorm. And at the end we will crown with a garland of roses the head of whoever was closest to the mark. Or should that be furthest from the mark? What the hell, both!
