I've managed to make the system crash using one END, but it's a repetitive crash. It does the screwy screen thing, but stays in the screwy screen. I'm still going.
Bottom two lines:
E M Pr Pr Pr/ - Ro Zo Pr -

Hmm. I get the regular 'crash and display a log' behavior. Are you certain you just didn't hit a bug glitch?

I've managed to get a readout with one end. It's not very interesting unfortunately, but I'll keep plugging away.
- - Ca Pr -/E Mo - Ro Pr/ - - S Pw Ro/ - - Ro Pw Pw/ - - Ro Z Z
Path appears to be
End Mount Switch Pwrite Pwrite Zone Zone Rotate Rotate Pwrite Roatate Pread Rotate Pread Cache
[edit] I've also managed to get a single 'h'
E M - - -/ - - Sw Ca Pr/ - - Pw Z Ro/ - - Ro Pr Ro/ - - - Ro -

How bizarre - at least it proves there's still lots to discover in there... Maybe there's some kind of anagram thing going on at this level?

Those are my thoughts exactly. I think, perhaps, wherever the Cache lands will produce a different letter. Both the sequences have Pwrite and Preads in the sequence Pw Pr Pr, various lengths apart, but that's just my preliminary judgement.

Excellent! Thanks for that, I must've missed those before.

Have tried to figure out how to do it (yes, I've read Wiki) but I'm just dim when it comes to programming type things
So I'd just like to say a big THANKS to all you clever people who crack all these things so I stand a chance of following these crazy events!! One day I promise to be up to date enough to make a contribution to things!
Oh yes, my physics is also very poor (I know, I know, what am I good for then!) but one thing that I was wondering and don't think I've seen mentioned could this equipment:

Physics/Baker Spherical Magnetic Containment field; interfaced with dedicated fibre network. Tested at 120% maximum tesla strength to ensure no field leakage.
be something to do with shielding the signal from the cube. Kurt found out in his discussion with Cube Research guys that a Faraday cage will not block it, and he said that you'd need a huge bit of lead to do it. Could this be a new technology that would do it? Feel free to trout me if that couldn't possibly happen, all this physics is well beyond my knowledge of levers and fulcrums!

No more letters yet. Just had a thought. All this technology in engineering and physics, making it seem like replicas/transportations etc of the cube might be happening. What if... the 5' x 3' 'painting' was the cube. Could this technology have been used to re-size the cube to look like something else. Who's going to look for a cube in a rectangular box?

[edit] on a different note END ZONE sends the code north after the zone.

Actually - the crux of the path appears to be:
end mount switch zone zone rotate rotate rotate rotate pread cache

FWIW - I went through to the log on this loop. Cheers..

I don't think so. The switch has no direct link to the zone, so that can't happen. As far as I can tell, the single end makes rotate and zone have different behaviours. I could be wrong, but from what I can follow, this is the case. Feel free to correct me. THe 'Pw Pw' sends the code south in the bottom right corner.
(unless you're saying Pwrite doesn't do anything other than send code east in this cas??)

Granted, yes. My computer went into a spak at this point, and it didn't process the whole execution. And SteveC, FWIW, I don't think any less of you for going through the source code to see what was happening. In fact I respect what you said, and fully accept that I was wrong to accuse you of wrongdoing.

Yes, that's what I'm saying - both command sets give the same result.

Kind of you, but not only did I NOT decompile the flash, but doing so would tell me nothing. As mentioned somewhere above - all the flash on your computer does (in the form of the drag/drop backdoor) is to build a string which it sends to the perplexcity servers.

Then I stand corrected again!
On a more constructive note... even though Caine has posted a new entry, do we think it's worth still trying to obtain more info from the back door. For example, if Caine got that message somehow, maybe we should be digging deeper...or have we got enough?

The whole inetd.conf thing, and the "end mount"s you found above make me think it's worthwhile trying to find more...
My opinion is that MC could use this interface to feed us information for months to come...

I agree, I think we need to try and find more. I suspect that we won't be doing this for months, but could be for weeks, and there is almost no way of telling when we've found everything.
I am interested however is finding some sort of explainable reasoning around how the interface works, rather than "this one goes up, apart from when net to a rotate where it goes left". A more logical framework so that we can determine how addressing works, and what part each command plays.
