[trailhead?] Stephen King - Lisey's Story Stephen King's next book, due out in October, is called "Lisey's Story" . I got an advance copy of it at a conference recently, and have been giving it a read. I'm not finished yet (only about half way through in fact), but there's been a number of phone number/e-mail address references so far. Since the book isn't out yet, switching to spoiler tags:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The plot so far revolves around the widow (Lisey Landon) of a very famous author (Scott Landon), set in modern day Maine, in particular dealing with her grieving process. She's been fending off a number of academics who want access to her husband's office and papers, unpublished novels, etc. One such academic was a professor from the University of Pittsburgh, Joseph Woodbody. I'm skimping on details, but Woodbury accidentally inspires an unstable man to harass and threaten Lisey. The unstable man is James Dooley, but he uses the fake name Zack McCool. His former e-mail address is given as Zack991SPLAT sail.com, but the book refers to it as not working. In addition, Woodbody's home phone number is given: (412) 298-8188
Also, at one point Lisey's study phone number is given without an area code: 727-5932 (I checked and all of Maine appears to have one area code: 207).
Right now Woodbody's phone number goes straight to unidentified voice mail, and Lisey's goes to voice mail of a name I can't make out. Google says it belongs to "Dave Mccubrey". I think there may have been another phone number given somewhere earlier in the book, but I can't seem to find it again...
This may very well be nothing, but thought I'd point it out just in case.

The second number, a girl answered, and I promptly hung up, because I'm a chicken that way^_^

looking at sail.com it appears to be simply a cruise site, very likely not arg, in fact, I would bet my computer on it;)
So I'd imagine that email will get a "O_o" from the server admin, if not a bounceback message.
I hate to say this, but that poor girl in Maine is probably going to have to get a new phone number after that book comes out^_^

Whois provides something a little interesting.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The sail.com site is listed as being created on:
Creation Date: 08-Nov-1993
And now for the Registrant:
Registrant [2354]:
Telepathy, Inc.
At telepathy.com we find:
Telepathy is experienced in database development and creating an interactive online experience. We specialize in the dynamic delivery of customized content.
Telepathy, Inc., founded in 1999 , is based in Washington, DC.
Notice the year differences in when the site was created and when Telepathy was founded. It is possible that Telepathy could have recently taken the sail.com site over.

It's also possible that they changed the year, isn't it? Is 1993 a year of any signifiance in the book?

hmm, interesting indeed. 1993 isn't of significance yet, i'm still just a little over halfway through. An indeterminate year in the 70s, 1987, and the winter of 1995-1996 have shown up in lengthy flashbacks so far, in addition to the bulk of time the book spends in 2006.
As for the poor girl in Maine with this number, weren't 555 numbers invented to avoid just this kind of thing?
Another possible relevancy: The copy of the book I'm reading may not be the final version released to stores. I suppose the numbers could be changed before October.

9+9+1 = 19
2+9+8 = 19
5+9+3+2 = 19
3 out of 5 sets of numbers ain't bad.

Yep. This is just an email server message telling you that they're having an issue with sending out your mail for whatever reason, and that they'll keep you updated on the progress if there are any further issues. Standard canned response.

My thoughts exactly... sort of.
"Sometime" in the '70's. 1987. 1999.
Very DT indeed.

There's a possibility that the numbers will be changed/removed in the final copy of the book. Using 555s tends to look pretty unclassy, so perhaps the publisher's marketing folks will replace them with something usable; ARG-ish or not.
EDIT: I need to start reading entire threads. Sorry for the rehash.
