you know, i almost have no idea ???1 in the devil any one ???2 that came from... in other content i'll check the security air locks for any...

???1 = what / where
???2 = track / kept / cat (déja vu?)

(stuff in bold is what I'm 100% certain of)

The guy speaking is English, and so am I, so maybe I can pick up his accent and make stuff out a little more easily than you people stateside can. I think the sentence we hear is only part of a larger sentence, and so grammatical context could give a different meaning... I'll keep on listening for a while.

ok, I'm damn sure he's actually saying:

you know, I almost have no idea where in the devil anywhere that crack could've came from... In other content, I'll check the security air logs for any...

I didn't get it for a while because he's using incorrect grammar ("could've came" where it should be "could've come") - that got me for a bit, but I EQed the segment to enhance the high frequencies and that made it a little easier to hear what he's saying. He's also running his words together, which could make it very hard to understand if you don't have an ear used to the English accent Smile

Now, I've changed from my previous opinion, and I now think he's could either be saying "locks", but slurring it, but it (to my ear) sounds more likely that he's saying "logs" - this might concur with a possible breach - if the emergency air supply's levels are monitored for each compartment in the Aquapolis. Just another hypothesis. It would make sense, with the warning klaxons in the background after he speaks.

Good initial recording tho.

The mic was touching the speaker. That's as good as it'll get with a headset mic. I boosted the audio on the initial source recording and removed background noise. There is the "Matrixy" sound, then there are six beeps (beepbeepbeep beep beepbeep) that sound like a car horn, and the name is CLEARLY Marcus.

I'm including this segment.

Big thing missing here.

I haven't cross-referenced with other forums, but on this thread we haven't mentioned this yet. Check out the news information on the Metacortechs website for 10/17/03. It almost exactly checks out with everything in the voicemail. Think about it from a PR point of view--they're obviously trying to play down the problems they had, and the voicemail is trying to let us know that there were problems.

There was a minor outer breach and the watertight doors were closed, causing minor flooding. The crews were alerted.

In the voicemail, as you all know, there's a man saying he doesn't know where the crack could've come from (as in the outside breach in the hull of aquapolis), and he'll check security logs to see if there were problems (as in from a hacker, like our friend Scratch who sent the voicemail). Since his music from the file we found with the fortune cookie papers is in the file, it's possible that he was able to play the music over the PA system, hence why they suspect hacking, and why the tech decides to check the logs. This would prove the connection between the voicemail, Scratch, and this incident. The computer voice "Everything is a-OK" is the new security and information system affirming that everything is okay now.

This could prove how closely Marcus Ormond is related to the Aquapolis site. He may be in charge of programming this "SafeSys" software, which is why they're consulting him as to what to do.

And to affirm this all, "Friday morning" (when the message was left for Marcus) would be 10/17/03, the same date as the news update.

Pretty much, the connections all fit together perfectly with that news update on the metacortechs site.

Added: Looking on the aquapolis web site lists the same event occuring on 10/8/03. This would be a Wednesday, so the friday morning could mean later in the week, and not immediately. Still, lots of elements do seem to fit.

Matt

I get.

"No, I have no idea where the devil.. {4 syllables} ...came from.."

I've checked it beat for beat and it's the right number of syllibles.

Edit: You know it kinda sounds like the missing four syllables were added after, almost as if it was recorded over or changed to mask the original speech.

Thunder!

My roomate and i were working through this phone message, and came across some interesting discoveries. I'll try and go step by step so i can explain how it was done and all.

We took the file and opened AVS AudioEditor 1.5, listened a few times. Tried to transcribe what the guy was saying initially, but i had the same issue with those four syllables. Just couldn't nail them for any kind of coherent word. So we played the entire file in reverse, slowed the speed down by forty or fifty percent but kept the pitch normal (so it just came out slower). There may be more, but we've noticed TWO specific areas where there seemed to be familiar syllables. Singled those out. This is all in reverse, mind you.

The first says something along the lines of "Morpheus is pissed." Singled this part out and the area around it, played that normal speed. It's the four syllables no one is sure of at the beginning of the file.

The second says something along the lines of "You must strain to see the forest." Singled this part out and the area around it, played that normal speed. It's the part where the guy says, "Dude, what do you think you're doing?"

And, of course, we took it a step further.

She grabbed her mic and we recorded her saying "Dude, what do you think you're doing?" Then slowed it down by forty or fifty percent, reversed it. Not even remotely similiar to "You must strain to see the forest." We also tried this with her saying "Morpheus is pissed." Same result.

Then we stumbled across the kind of thing you only realize when you should have gone to sleep four hours ago. What's the point of those chimes, that "music" in the background? When played backwards, it provides the necessary notes to create syllables, and thus coherent words into a sentence. That's the reason for the chiming and stuff like that.

Check out these two files, let me know what you think...

OK, well I've taken many a class on DSP, digital comm, etc. So the thing that really caught my attention was the odd tones/noises between the people speaking (everyone else seems to have that taken care of).

[DSP Talk]
When the message begins, before "Marcus, this message...", there are some odd "alien-like" noises. I immediately heard this as an AM-modulated voice. Did some preliminary Fourier analysis, and saw what looked like the modulator at either around 536 Hz or 1075 Hz. Tried both of these frequencies, and I definitely could pick up a voice. It sounded like:

"Blah blah blah, [condition] detected."
(Where blah is something I couldn't understand, [condition] is iffy, and detected seems to definitely be there).

However, I don't have the right modulator - the voice was still a bit scrambled. Unfortunately, I don't have access to Matlab on this computer, which is my tool of choice. I'll have to wait until Thursday, unless I can get into the lab tomorrow.

There's another modulated section near the end, but I was unable to get anything out of it (I was unable to determine the right modulation freq., and tuning it by hand didn't give any results).

If anyone else here has some experience with AM or FM decoding and can back me on this, I would appreciate it. The fact that the background are audible tones / music, rather than static, is really screwing with my ability to pick up the modulators.

Morse code?

To me it sounds like .--.-.

That could be ANN, or WR, or PN. Mean anything to anyone?

Edit: On second thought, maybe it's ---.-.
OR for ORMOND?

This is what I was talking about when I was referring to the modulated voices. These are not morse code beeps to me, but are definitely modulated voices from my experience with comm. theory.

In the segment that Marl refers to as r2d2, you can distinctly hear a cat miow. Kat?

Sadly the app I have has an option to AM modulate, but not demodulate. So unless you can do some kind of negative modulation by using inverse values that's no help.

It can however accept expressions and it notes "you can use Matlab to generate the filter coefficients".

I've tried tinkering with the sample presets and it does seem to pick bits out, but I really don't know enough about the subject to do any more.

I think its an avenue worth exploring though Cool
