What lid?

Nevermind - I just realized the scroll is really the box lid.

i dont think thats true... spains box doesnt have a puzzle like ours (us and uk) and neither ws japan - there are not two sets of 8 numbers. there just arent. surely
spain has 7 numbers - and theres no working out needed. japans braille abortion was just jibberish too - arent you reading into things a little too much. i dno. all shout at me now - i know your going to - i just put in ...

I'm posting this for two reasons... first, because I believe at least three correct answers may have already been posted, and second, I am not sure of these so it's not like posting the absolute final answers...

First, the coods to get to the final puzzle (US site)...

The "extra" numbers we all found (and were pretty sure of) were:

...5 5 N 7 7 1 W

The correct coord was
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

2558N7713W

The first "2" I just plugged in because I figured we had to be near either Jamaica or Abaco. Turns out that was correct.

The 5 and 5 we knew.

The 8 was the sideways "infinity" on the barrel in Madiera.

The N was on the plate

The 7 and 7 and 1 we knew.

The 3 was guessed (only 0-9 so it only took a few tries)

The W was from the funny M looking thing on the wall hanging from that things neck

Once on the island of "Somewhere" there's a

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
beach with lots of click spots but only two that uncover something. The two things are a cloth with 8 symbols and a box with 64 symbols. The final solution is an 8 digit number. Apparently you have to convert those 8 symbols into 8 numbers.

This is the part where I guessed. There are several different things that you could do to come up with intelligent numbers.... use the symbols in the columns in the box to cover up the sections of the symbols on the cloth, count the symbols in the box that don't intersect a line on the cloth, etc.

Lots of possibilities but nothing screamed "obvious" so...

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I figured the box was a red herring and so I used the clue from Port Royal... sssssst... to find the numbers. I thought it was strange that there were 8 characters in the password and 8 digits in the number... strange that the verbal clue said something about the Seven Seas and the Tempest (seven s's and a t)... strange that s's and t fit over the symbols on the cloth rather well - for the most part.

I overlaid the 8 symbols with s's and a t and counted the line segments that were left visible. The number was 2 4 1 2 2 2 3 0

Like I said, this is a total guess, but at least it had a touch of intelligent design behind it. Don't know if it was a valid number or not, but after submitting it I was prompted for name, home address, email, etc but no code from the Volvo dealership map. You only get to submit one final answer and that's it, so you have to make it count.

So... my number has been submitted, but I don't know if it's correct... or if it was I don't know that it was in the top three. We'll see I guess.

I like the way they did the final puzzle. Different JP puzzle so they didn't necessarily get a headstart (might have even slowed people down if they went there first and thought they'd be getting the answer early.) Also nobody knows for sure if they submitted the correct final answer or not (and you only get to submit one guess) so copying off others is risky. All in all I had fun, even if I don't get to go on a trip to volvo island Very Happy

Good luck.

US SOMEWHERE THREAD

Ok This may be deleted but I thought I would try to help us make sense of the clues by keeping each site solution in its own thread

Firstly, Id like to back up what he said. its been something to do if anything. Ive made some friends along the way - friends from all over!

the puzzle!

i cant see how the two items relate to each other. some people are saying that one set of digits gives you the order to put the others in...
bol*(cks. in spanish site. there are 9s and zeros - how do you place a number in 0th position or 9th position in an 8 DIGIT NUMBER??

So what if what i entered was easy to find and simple. If at the end of the day im wrong... well i didnt think about it for hours and hours while other people were putting it in, and a gazillion other people were already putting in any over-thought answers!

I had fun! it was something to do whilst i waited for the movie really!
much respect to you sharers. a little less to the hoarders, and none to those that just rape the forums - those that are merely a number in 'views' total... shame on you.

i hope we all get to see who did well! and i hope i see you all up there at the top - fingers crossed im on a plane with you or something.

jase.

p.s. there are ONLY TWO BOXES - ITS JUST THAT THE CONTENTS VARY FROM WEBSITE TO WEBSITE -

JAPAN
braille / binary in box - lid has numbers in when you draw a line across top and bottom - see it? good.
UK
similar - also draw a line across symbols on lid - box cotains triangles and stuff (i took this as a red herring after spending like four hours on the braille at japan - to no avail)
US
similar to uk - except lid symbols are just gobbledegook...
SPAINsame lid pattern as UK, BOX contains numbers - i dno?!

hope this helps - and we wont have anymore silly posts saying ARE THERE 3 OR 4 BOXES TO FIND?

I have found 2 boxes, but I have not found a box like the one posted above yet. That means there are 3 boxes...???

hey guys, i have used these forums a few times to help me through so i thought i would input what i got out of the final puzzle (somewhere)

this is what i got,

the lid piece explains itself (these are the final 8 digit solution, now all you need is the order)

for the box i figured you arrange the pieces (working down in columns) to make a full square. There is one piece in each column that wont fit in, this is then your number (counting down from the top). repeat for the next column untill you have an 8 digit sequence (this gives you the order for lid numbers

then simply wright the rows of numbers underneath each other and rearrange them so that they run in order 1-10.

this is what i submitted, hope it helps you guys

Gobbledegook

I certainly hope this is gobbledegook because that is what I made of it...

I didn't see this one up there yet.

Ok, so I have already posted my answer although I am sure I won't win but would like to encourage anyone that is confident that they worked this thing out correctly to come back here after the deadline and post! I want to know how this last one works. (You could always PM me if you want to let me in on the secret now.) Best of luck to all. This has been fun and I intend to stick around the forums and play! Thanks!

somewhere hints

ok, you can get the final #'s 2 ways....I tried 2 different things and came up with the same numbers both times.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
pay close attention to the last spoken word and the word that got you into Port Royal.

Well, nobody has really explained the lid in the US site with all its bizarre 8 symbols. I understand the jigsaw puzzle (the box) and how that gives you the number sequence, but I can't decipher the numbers from the lid.

It was much easier on the other sites (Spain/Japan/UK) from what Ive seen, as you just add lines/curves on the top and bottom to create the numbers. I cannot make any logical sense out of doing this on the US site, enough that i would say "yes, this is definitely correct."

I have no doubt that 3 people have already figured this out, probably long ago, but I'd still like some clarification if anyone has it. As a Disney cast member, I doubt I am even eligible (and do not even have a Volvo dealership map, lol). Nevertheless, i am curious as to this solution.

Thanks to all on the forums, the game has been a blast.

p.s. No surprise at all that Castaway Cay, Disney's private island in the Bahamas, is the final location. As further proof, they recently docked Davy Jones' boat there (the lifesize prop used in the movie). This will add some scenery/decor to the finale of this contest and may very well play into the final solve for the 7 finalists, who knows.

Back to the clue

I'm re-listening to the clue given at the beginning of "Somewhere." Can anyone think of how "SERENITY" (8 letters and such) can decode the garble?
