Well I found an even more obtuse application for some of this info -

There is an island near the UK called Lundy - it's in the Bristol channel where (presumably) many pirate adventures started. As the puzzle had taken us round the world and back to the start it seemed 'a possible' for the UK solution.

Also, curiously the island is situated such that it is exactly on the 'elbow' of a right angled triangle drawn from stonehenge, and the Prescelli mountains from where the stones for the henge were hauled.

The island is the same shape as the jutting out 'finger' of the island on the map - the point at which the semi-final started, and it also has a gateway rock and stone circle, like the map, as it was regarded as a holy island and a gateway to the spirit world. Also - just for good measure an english tabloid newspaper ran a (seemingly stupid) story that 'Elvis Presley had been spotted driving the XC90 on the Moon!'.

The co-ordinates don't match any of the numbers - but then I wasn't able to make anything more meaningful from the puzzles on 'somewhere'. In psychometric tests it's common to include an unanswerable puzzle - to waylay those who tackle each problem as it arises - the thing being to skip it, and move on - or 'think outside the box'.

No doubt this can be disproved in a variety of different ways - but I thought I'd share it for the entertainment value!

kaoss

kaoss:

I probably just missed this - but how does anyone KNOW they were correct?

I read in several places that no one was told by the game that they were correct.

Please correct this info as I think many, many hunters would like this clarified.

[DISCUSSION] End Game (Part 2)

Disney's Castaway Cay is reserved exclusively for Disney Cruise LineŽ Guests.

Disney's Castaway Cay is 339 miles from the Walt Disney WorldŽ Resort.

Serenity Bay, the adults-only area of Castaway Cay, Disney's private Bahamian island

2605N7732W

Anyone get that the car would at probably be the most safe on an island that Disney (producer of POTC) owned? I will be upset if it was as easy as looking up Castaway Cay's coordinates and you didn't even need the game.

solutions

All the solutions are posted on prometheus's blog and I think they are absolutely correct. The answer for the USA puzzle is shown in technicolour glory as an example. It is clear and logical and has the stamp of the same solution as used in the twin vases puzzle. All the final puzzles follow the same basic idea and pattern. it is just the final numbers that are different. Very sensible and caught the early birds working on the Japan site out a little bit. That site should not have opened until every other site was up. All for one and one for all! It did give others an unfair start even if the puzzles were slightly different of speed and time.
It is also interesting to note that international cooperation was rife, as for example a us/uk team helped each other because they were not hurting the others chances until the very last puzzle. Possible flaw in a world wide game or advantage? Why did I not think of that!
the link is:
http://pirateloot.blogspot.com/ .

If it IS a different answer, then I shall walk the plank blah blah!! I do hope another one is done for potc3.

Good luck to the fastest guns and may your spade be with you.

end game 2

To the goon:

I still ask-has anyone received an 'official' verification from 'the game' that any string of 8 numbers were the correct ones from any of the countries?

Linear thinking?
Logical thinking?

which one worked to get to the end?

Will we wait to see who was correct?

Or can anyone quote a site-a real one please-exclude the popeyeesque stuff that has shown a verification that an answer was correct?

Ahh-so many questions-so much time to wait!!!

Love this stuff!!

Help me out guys. We all spent a lot of time brainstorming together.

We can still do so until the big reveal.

Verification of a win

Thinking about it logically - if that's possible now

It would seem unlikely Volvo would want to confirm any answer given at the time of submission, as before any finalist is chosen they would want to verify a number of things.

By letting people know they had the correct answer the organisers would be making a 'rod for their own backs' in the event of the competition being voided for any reason.

That said - there are of course those who report thay have had confirmation of correct answers.

end game 2

I posted this in another topic but didn't get any feedback. I hade done this with the first release of the completed trails hack and was wondering if anyone else did something similiar. I thought for the longest time it might end up in Seychelles because of the end of the route.

"Manmade hole" does fit the locale of Castaway Cay though. Entertaining, if nothing else...

I'm not "getting my hopes up" for winning, as I'm sure others were faster, but I swear it said my numbers were correct. Did anyone else, using the same final numbers as me, 01453597, get the same response, asking for your contact information verification??

If nothing else, you guys are actually increasing my hopes....May the best pirate win, aye!

what about the island to the east of bermuda?

I can't help wonder about the island on the world map that is located to the East of Bermuda. It was circled with the dotted line. It appears to be named "Sept Arez" or something similar to that. I cannot locate it on any world globe, any satellite image or any atlas. Is this "somewhere"? Is this the final destination? What do you think?

World Map - Dotted Line around Mysterious Island

Hi again - I read all the posts and saw that the coordinates are in fact Little Abaco Island. It still doesn't explain why there was one island on the world map that was circled with a dotted line (as opposed to the solid lines around all other islands in the puzzle) and it seems to be called sept arez. Sept, of course, meaning seven.

Thoughts?

Well, I reworked the puzzle using my theory, but altered a few things, including the tangram. Instead of reading it left to right in order, I ordered it right to left, cuz that way the one square that was incomplete--or different--was also just like the SSSSSSST.

How does that theory work though? The numbers in the box were supposedly the positions, right? (or was it the other way around Confused ).

I found one on the UK puzzle that wasn't complete also - anyone else? I think it was column 4 (or 5).
