Does that make it more likely to be true then?

Lately in Perplex City, our heroes have been waiting on Earth's Cube-hunting legions to make

deep within the Academy. More in our story update, and also in our new podcast, but first there's
lots of stuff to tell you about:

** SAN FRANCISCO LIVE EVENT: NEW DETAILS! **

As announced last week, there's going to be a massive live event in San Francisco on Saturday,
August 12th! With room for around 500 players and 500 spectators, a host of exciting challenges
and an official Academy presence, it's the most ambitious Perplex City event yet. It's being held at
The Palace Of Fine Arts Theatre, from 10.30am to 5pm, and it's absolutely free to take part in this
exciting event - you can even join in the fun online! Read more:

** FIRST WE'D LIKE TO THANK OUR MOMS... **

We're very pleased to announce that Perplex City has won the Vanguard Most Innovative Game
at this year's Origins Awards. These prestigious awards are run by the Game Manufacturers
Association, and it's a great honour for them to recognise all the hard work that both the
Academy and Mind Candy have put into making Perplex City such an innovative and enjoyable
experience. Our mascara is in a right state, though. Go:

** THE SCARLETT CODE: THE PUZZLE CHALLENGE CONTINUES **

Scarlett's Myspace puzzle challenge continues - every week, she's posting a new set of questions
on her Myspace profile for you to solve, with a cool prize for a lucky winner! This week, there's a
black Nintendo DS Lite and copy of Brain Training up for grabs, so get cracking - and don't forget
to add as her a friend if you have a profile:

** PERPLEX CITY SCHWAG: CHARITY AUCTION **

The lovely folks behind the Pirates vs Ninjas video competition entry have set up a fantastic
charity auction. Raising money for NSPCC, not only is their framed, signed Perplex City artwork
up for grabs, but we've thrown in a whole bunch of extra stuff like posters, cards, and other
ollectible items. They're calling it The Ultimate Auction Of Ultimate Power, we hear. Bid early
and often:

putting up posters and generally chatting to people about the hunt for the Cube, do let us know.
There'll be exciting rewards as a token of our appreciation!

** STORY UPDATE **

All roads lead to Crypto. Caine has continued his investigations into the department, stumbling upon a
series of audio recordings made by Karen Moro, a junior member of the faculty who was blackmailed
into spying on her colleagues and reporting any suspicious activity.

Anna's research has unearthed a set of reference numbers that identify the high-tech items already
stolen from Crypto.

And Kurt has revealed that he and Karen dated briefly during the period of these recordings (though
she didn't seem too impressed with him at the time). Now, a year later, he must ask for her help in
tracking down the missing parts - and perhaps finding the Cube at last...

** SENTINEL QUESTIONS **

The team at the Perplex City Sentinel have finally got around to browsing through your fantastic
responses to the Sentinel Questions, available to answer in your profile! They've chosen this week's
winner, doublecross, who gets 5 points into the bargain. They'll be doing this every week from now on,
so if you haven't answered them already, go go go:

** BONUS NEWSLETTER PUZZLE **

Last time around, we posed a clever little brain-teaser. To recap:

You're lost deep within the Perplex City catacombs and are trying to work out where you are when you
stumble across a hermit. You quickly look up "Hermit" on your key to discover:

There are two hermits - one in Newguard Ruins, and the other by the Coast.
They can answer any yes/no question truthfully.
Unfortunately, they only answer with a hermit-like scowl, or by a spot of beard scratching.
Nobody knows whether scowling or scratching means yes or no, but the two hermits use opposite
systems.

What single question can you ask to find out where you are?

One (possible!) answer is: "Does the Newguard hermit scratch his beard to mean 'yes'?"

His possible actions are:

He scratches his beard...
To mean YES, the newguard hermit scratches his beard to mean 'yes' (this means you're at Newguard)
To mean NO, the newguard hermit scowls to mean 'yes' (this means you're at Newguard too!)

He scowls...
To mean YES, the newguard hermit scratches his beard to mean 'yes' (this means you're at The Coast)
To mean NO, the newguard hermit scowls to mean 'yes' (this means you're at The Coast too)

Actually, any variation on "Does X hermit do Y to mean Yes/No?" works too. See?

- - - - - -

This week, something a bit simpler! What does the following mean?

the other one
the one other
one the other
other the one
the other one
one other the

Answer in the next newsletter!

Until next time, happy hunting,

Mind Candy

Aswell as the backward message, the July 31st celebration of the "yet unannounced event" seems to confirm the Sentinel article.

PS: Mind Candy, your Haiku are rubbish.

Sorry, I should have posted the full thing. A hastily done post in the midst of a frantic year-end! Laughing

I originally read that this morning as:

Wouldn't that be a trip. There'd be more stores carrying the PXC cards than there are US players.

Surprised
