Ocular Effect - Starting point for a newbie - Advice?

Hello, I'm a brand-newbie, very interested in ARG. I've researched a lot of the material, but much of the established games look a little daunting to get involved with. a little more research and up pops this Ocular Effect/Fallen game(?). Curiosity piqued...
Any body have some advice regarding becoming involved?
I think it would be a boon to my learning curve to begin at the start of a particular campaign.
Any comments would be appreciated, Thanks.

ugh, first comment, I'm sorry it's not positive: Don't start new threads in news and rumors when one already exists for that topic.

As far as becoming involved...wait till Monday and see what happens. There's no formal roles to take, just contribute as the need arises...

Good luck

Hello Lestat, and welcome to unFiction! (Funny, I just watched Interview with the Vampire yesterday... Very Happy )

First, in the gist of what Colin said, I'd like to point you to some guidelines that generally apply when posting on these forums. You can find them by clicking here.

Then, regarding playing the Ocular effect, we don't really know what kind of game this will be... full-blown ARG, puzzle-trail, competition, we have to wait and see for the countdown to finish, which, usually, is quite an exciting thing in itself Smile

Maybe you have already heard of Eon8, but just in case, if you're interested, take a look here. Basically, Eon8 was a site designed to see what would happen if you provide people with a countdown and minimal info hinting at some sort of terrorist attack. It was like a social experiment.

Looking at the ocular effect, I see that it keeps people pretty busy discussing math at the moment, and probably mostly because there's not much else to do right now Very Happy

But basically, that's usually how ARGs are played out here: a lot of people contribute by constantly sharing their speculations with the rest of the players, until something/someone hits the mark and a puzzle gets solved. The only important thing to keep in mind when participating in that process is to Search before you post, in order to check if what you are about to post hasn't already been discussed before. For the rest, feel free to comment on everything/everyone when playing.

As for the Ocular Effect thread, I'm about to move it to the "ARGs With Potential" section, so it has some more room for people to discuss and start new threads when the countdown finishes.

I hope you enjoy playing!

[EDIT] Korrekted pselling Confused
