The DREAMS link is also something that's been around for a long time; it is merely a bizarre story from the game taken and reformatted with the accompanying pictures and made to look nice and creepy.
So is the text in ghosts, confess (mmm leela), and some of this other stuff looks awfully familiar.

I wonder if Hamish knows they've reposted his story? So far I'm not seeing much of an ARG on jjaro.net, just stuff from the game (and maybe fanfiction) reposted.

And Dio, Marathon and Halo are not the same thing. :(

EDIT:
Digging through the Story Forums reveals the secret of jjaro.net.
http://forums.bungie.org/story/?read=48029

And that's how connections come in handy. When it comes to Marathon, the Story folks know everything there is to know. Everything.

I maintain jjaro.net, and it took me until last night to hear about the day or two of commotion is caused in the Halo 3 community. Based on the other threads in other forums that Google turned up, you guys uncovered the most about the site -- including the fact that it has nothing at all to do with Halo.

Congrats. :)

As a reward of sorts, to those who are interested there's a little bit of inside information about the site available here: http://jjaro.net/support/ It includes a map of the all the pages on the site (with color-coded arrows that indicate how the links function), a log of changes and updates made, and a page of colors that I used as reference for text colors.

Mostly the site is supposed to be a collection of interesting stories presented in an interesting way, bordering on creepy whenever I can manage it.

Other things to mention... the low portion of black-stars.mp3 is the same as all the other frequency ranges. I thought about bringing them in and out of sync (if you've seen The Mothman Prophecies, think about the Chapstick line, how the audio layers drag and then sync up with each other), but the process wasn't blatantly obvious in Audacity and I figured the effect was cool enough to stick with on its own. It's hard for me to find motivation to learn new things.

"And I can feel the knife getting heavier in my pocket" is a reference to someone's fan fiction and also to a previous incarnation of jjaro.net, where all the pages had that title. Most people only made it as far as "feel the knife getting..." without realizing that the string took a different path.

As for /eliot/, it's not any more obsessive than the rest of the site. Just took a couple hours to type up out of this book, which is a veritable well of interesting and creepy poems. :)

I discovered (i.e. was shown) The King in Yellow in early March. I have no concept of Lovecraft or things Lovecraftian; I've never read anything by him and I'm not entirely sure I ever will. It's not far enough off the beaten path to be really interesting.

Anyway, you'll find that 100% of what you find on that page has been around for a long time, and only about 60% of it has anything at all to do with Marathon, and absolutely 0% of it has to do with Halo. It's just a convenient collection. I hope you've all discovered at least one new and interesting piece of literature in it, and you ought to share it with your friends so that they can join in. It's fun for the whole family!

Oh, one other thing. Sorry about dragging this thread to the top of the forum again, but I thought it'd be polite to post a response. Maybe you guys could do me a favor and spread this post around to the other forums (or in directly to other people that frequent them) that took the time to leaf through jjaro.net? That way this doesn't get reposted a whole bunch and I spend as little time as possible in the Halo fandom. It has a bit of a... stigma for me. No offense. :)

Thanks! It was very nice of you to explain this stuff. Even if we figured that it's not really ARG-ish or Halo-related, it's nice to get conformation.

It's totally cool that you popped the thread back up for this.

Sweet site, btw.

Hi thermopylae! I've been lurking around the Story forums for a while, but I don't believe we've met.

Thank you for /eliot/. It is the most convenient collection of Eliot poems on the Internet I have found thus far. :D

If you wouldn't mind dropping me a line at epeters3 at uiuc dot edu whenever you find a typo, it'd be greatly appreciated. Having typed them all by hand, there's a decent amount of mistakes, and even though they're a year old I haven't found them all.

What do you go by on the Story Forums?

Usually 'canemexmachina' or some such variant. I will certainly let you know if I find any typos.
