Password to ROT no longer works, but I still get the same newsletter, so I don't think they've activated a new pw yet.
Damn beatnik!

I'm guessing (unless someone knows better) that this was pulled from the page source code. Towards the bottom of the source you'll see a long Base64 string. If you put that through a Base64 decoder, you'll get a validation string for the email/password box. The password is contained within that.

New newsletter is now available:
Quote:
Dear friends,
Thank you for supporting the Retrievers of Truth. You unwavering loyalty and patronage are what keep me working so hard to get the truth out there about the Labrador. Things are going very well for the organization and for myself. I would not be speaking to you if it were not for your belief.
Today I would like to talk to you about something that has effected us all at one time or another - change. Change is the nature of existence. Do you think the now mighty and mentally superior Labrador retriever was always such a symbol of canine superiority? Definitely not.
I myself have experienced change in my life. An awakening or rebirth of sorts. And from that change came personal growth. A flowering, if you will. When a young yellow is but a pup he hasn't the slightest inkling of the changes he will endure. He goes though life as a pet only to later become the true master.
I can't tell you how to overcome change but I can tell you to look to the future. Aim for the stars. Pick a point in your mind that you want to reach and allow yourself to change - to adapt and be ready for anything that might come your way.
Like a wise old yellow once told me, "If I didn't change my mind, I'd be thinking the same things every single day."
Yours truly, Dr. Vincent "Wally" Bole

This is probably the relevant part:

Best bet seems to be that they're telling us that the password will eventually be given out in 'the future' via AIM, and in the meantime we should 'be ready.'

That's just a routine myspace thing, it'll be up soon.

I have no idea if this is relevant or not, but maybe someone else who is more familiar with MySpace than I will have some insight...
So I'm one of those with the 'faceless' pics that Mandrake Wig has put on the top of his friends list at his MySpace page. Today I've gotten several emails from other players, asking to be added as friends -- I'm sure that they're just hunting for clues. Anyway, this evening I noticed that the link in the friend request email contained some code that looked very familiar. Here's the relevant bit [altered for privacy]:
Code:
Click the following link to view XX's profile and accept or reject this
user as your friend:
http://www1.myspace.com/reloc.cfm?c=1&id=DCEADE0B-00E2-46B0-ADE4-99FB8A1A8889
This last bit is formatted exactly like today's 'password': 1CF11D16-C378-4D5A-B038-00DF9ED171FF. There are the same number of characters and everything.
However, when I tried substituting the password code into the MySpace link, it just redirected me to my own home page. Is there something better to do with this?
It seems too close to be coincidence..
Yep okay it's probably coincidence. It was just the fact that these two IDs appeared from related sources on the same day..

I'm calling that a coincidence.
They look similar because they are probably both UUIDs or GUIDs . Basically a method of giving something an ID code that is unlikely be a duplicate of any existing ID codes.
It makes sense for the myspace URL. But not so much for the RoT password. I'm guessing that they wanted a nice random number, so they clicked 'Generate' on whatever random number generator that happened to be handy .

It didn't work for me either...
So then I did the trick that other people figured out, which is to look in the ROT source code and find the encoded bit containing the password, here:
Code:
<input type="hidden" name="__VIEWSTATE" value="dDwtMTkyODMzNzg3ODt0PDtsPGk8MD47PjtsPHQ8O2w8aTwxPjtpP
DM+O2k8NT47PjtsPHQ8O2w8aTwxPjs+O2w8dDxwPGw8VGV4dDs
+O2w8XGU7Pj47Oz47Pj47dDw7bDxpPDA
+Oz47bDx0PDtsPGk8NT47aTw5Pjs+O2w8dDxwPGw8VGV4dDs
+O2w8XGU7Pj47Oz47dDxwPHA8bDxWYWxpZGF0aW9uRXhwcmVzc2lvbjs
+O2w8KF4oW2EtekEtWjAtOV9cXC1cXC5dKylAKChcXFtbMC05XXsxLDN9XF

rXFwuKSspKShbYS16QS1aXXsyLDR9fFswLTldezEsM30pKFxcXT8pJCl8RTcy

NRUFOTk9USElOOz4+Oz47Oz47Pj47Pj47dDw7bDxpPDE
+Oz47bDx0PHA8bDxUZXh0Oz47bDxIb21lOz4+Ozs+Oz4+Oz4+Oz4
+O2w8bWdieDpHbzs+PtXENYlm2kCsFQBKmkr4MDFwfM3y" />
and then run it through a Base64 translator , which produces this:
Quote:
t<-1928337878;t<;l<i<0>;>;l<t<;l<i<1>;i<3>;i<5>;>;l<t<;l<i<1>;>;l<t<p<l<Text;>;l<

This part seems to be the new password:

I guess the ROT guys are playing a little joke, huh?

I think the B is part of the first bit, and it says:
