[EMAIL/Puzzle Trail] Mystes.com July 17

I just received this:

Quote:
Kheperi - Re - Atum

Above the height of ten men, a face of stone looks eastward towards the mighty source of life.

Those who have both desire and knowledge shall proceed.

The original email:
Quote:
Greetings,

Perhaps this will prove the knowledge I seek.

Blessings Abound,
Mountain Girl

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Khepri (Khepera) is the scarab headed god personified by the rising sun and was the god of transformation. His name means beetle and "he who becomes" because it was believed that beetles renewed themselves (they arise from their own substance and are reborn of themselves).

EDIT** I found this:

I got the same email from 'intiatesone@mystes.com' but what may or may not be of interest on a whim I had sent an email to 'knowledge@mystes.com'

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
from here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theban_kings_-_Greek_mythology

"the seven gates of Thebes, naming them after Amphion's daughters (Thera, Cleodoxa, Astynome, Astycratia, Chias, Ogygia, Chloris)"

http://www.mystes.com/thera.html
http://www.mystes.com/cleodoxa.html
http://www.mystes.com/astynome2.html
http://www.mystes.com/astycratia.html
http://www.mystes.com/chias.html
http://www.mystes.com/ogygia.html
http://www.mystes.com/chloris1.html

for the ones with the 1 and 2, some sources quote them like that so i tried them with the numbers after the name by itself did not work

On http://www.mystes.com/sphinx.html one of the lines is 'Seven doors or one hundred, by either it is known.' I know we already found http://www.mystes.com/thebes.html but wanted to note....

Two important places in antiquity were called Thebes:

Thebes, Greece – Thebes of the Seven Gates; one-time capital of Boeotia.
Thebes, Egypt – Thebes of the Hundred Gates; one-time capital of the New Kingdom of Egypt.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
GB were all the references 'in the same order'? So putting the letters in the order of how you listed the pages would 'make most sense'? (kimer once again holds on to GB's coattails Laughing )

Solution to the gate pages:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Each page has a line of letters and arranging in the right order gives

a s c e m m t
l t e l a e a
c e l e i r y
y r a c a o g
o o e t _ p e
n p n r _ e t
e e o a _ _ e

and reading down the lines we get Alcyone, Sterope, Celaeno, Electra, Maia, Merope and Taygete.
These are all the daughters of the Atlas and Pleione known as Pleiades, hence

http://www.mystes.com/pleiades.html

-Edit- Grumpyboy noted in chat that the arrangement above is from the gate names in alphabetical order. Makes for a much more elegant solution than the guessing I did.

Kheperi - Re - Atum
These are all names for the sun of sun gods of egypt
"Kheperi - Re - Atum". These are the three names given by the Egyptians to the sun: in the morning, at noon, and in the evening.

I've also looked at the source and count 5 different fonts used:
Code:

<font face="Times New Roman, Times, serif">
<font face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">
<font face="Courier New, Courier, mono">
<font face="Georgia, Times New Roman, Times, serif">
<font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I've also noted that when highlighted the numbers
1, 4, 4, 14, 14, 16, 19, 20, 25 on the first line
5, 5, 8, 8, 15, 19, 19, 20, 20 on the second line
1, 1, 5, 7, 9, 12, 18, 19 21 on the third line
all appear underlined, while
13, 21 on the first line
19, 20 on the second line
6, 9 on the third line
all have a line above them and that
9, 12, 12, 21 on the first line
1, 9, 13, 14 on the second line
1, 15, 18, 20 on the third line
have no lines at all

[edit] darn you Shelina, just as I was typing this up Razz

I changed numbers to letters and 'thought' I might be on to something when the first line anagrams to 'adds multiply nun' but the other lines didn't seem to anagram to anything helpful... plus that doesn't take into account why they would use the different fonts/sizes.... so I guess I'll go to bed while the rest of you figure this out Wink

Do you think this story has anything to do with our riddle?
