Oh, yeah. I figured it out a while ago.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
You find a piece of paper in the chest near the steering wheel. Putting it in the steam reveals fragments of sentences. A search on the fragments tells you that they're from Tom Sawyer, which is set in St. Petersburg, Missouri. That's where you need to go.

I was confused also. The clue was a quote from "The Adventures of Huck Finn Tom Sawyer" Here is your second hint, Mark Twain wrote about what he knew.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Funny, Hannibal Missouri worked for me.

I now have the next puzzle piece which appears to be the bottom of the Tidal Basin from the Lincoln Memorial to the Jefferson Memorial. I really think that with the question now reading "Where is the early symbol ..." that the location is somewhere in Washington DC.

So who's our creepy dead guy? Is it the eponymous Casimir Pulaski?

I'm in the cave, with the sword, and am digging around with no luck. The lantern I found on the ship seems to have no effect in the cave. Am I missing something? Do I just need to keep digging till I get it right, sort of like the key toss in the jail?

SO the game keeps freezing on me. Anyone in the same boat? (no pun intended) I think they might be working on the site, that means they are gonna change something!

EDIT: Ok get this I try to do this weeks challange and it froze when I grabed the sword. So I hit back. It says "Assablishing Database This may take a few minutes during peak times." I wait and nothing happens. Try again it freezes when I grab the 2nd lamp. Refresh! I try again I grab the sword and it freezes AGAIN. I try to right click the "go back to boat" button and hit play hoping it would wake up. Next thing I know I have found the puzzle piece and the phone pops up and says "Please refrain from cheating in the future" Then the voice over chimes in "If you are trying to cheat, know this: We're on to you." WHAT THE F*%#! I got screwed!

When I first read this I thought your own phone rang (like they were calling you). Then in re-reading it I see you mean the digital cell phone on the website. Sorry, but that's funny. At least you got your puzzle piece. If this happens again, hit the "start over" button - or clean your cache & cookies and relogin.

You just have to rotate them all until there is NO gaps, and everything is connected to something, then the steam can move to the right side of the pipes ^o^
