Just me?

Is it just me or is the final solution a little disappointing? It would have been possible to skip straight to the end, find the final coordinates on this forum and then solve the final puzzle. Not that I'm a sore loser, honest Smile

I am totaly with you!!!!

This final solution is extremely disappointing!
Even the Cozumel's wall was more exciting.
I hope that there is logic explaination to the missing bit and to the SSSSSSST.
whatever!

You had to search the seven Seas again and again with the Tempest to find the location of Somewhere. That seems to cover SSSSSST keyword quite nicely to me, and keeps its usage in the same location it was used it.

It only took me about 10-15 minutes to get the correct US solution...having worked the Japanese solution beforehand was still a help, even though the puzzles were different. But since it took 40 minutes after launch time to get the website to respond for me, it didn't matter so far as winning went.

How can you tell that you have the right answers. Will or has Volvo posted the answers somewhere and will or do they include the logic behind the puzzle answers?

Answers

Volvo sent an email to participants at the close of the competition. You can see it on this page: http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=15888&start=15

But it doesn't say which country those numbers are for. I don't think it is a legitimate message. It also conflicts with post by AREAGLEW who claims to have been contacted by Volvo as a finalist, with the numbers below:

the answer she submitted was:
4-3-6-4-2-4-7-6

she submitted her answer around 2:35pm ET. i was sure we were way too slow to win... but the puzzles were fun, so we were just happy to compete. jenny was very surprised when she received The Call.

we live in georgia... looking forward to meeting DecipherGuy from arizona who is also a finalist according to pirateblog.

It wouldn't need to say which country the numbers are for, as it would assume that you're in the country you stated when you signed up (or by which code you put in, I forget). I received the email as well, so it's definitely kosher.

Winning numbers

That email stating the winning numbers was from a UK participant. There was a Volvo UK address at the end of that post. The US numbers were posted by an apparent US finalist. I have not yet received an email from the US site (where I played) thanking me for my participation and providing the final eight-digit number. Maybe it will come later today. Maybe not.

I must agree that the final answer was a bit of a downer. The other puzzles were very good and this last one could have been solved by anyone. No explanation for the missing triangle. No rhyme or reason for just counting strokes. I guess I expected too much, but once I didn't submit an answer in the first hour after 2PM EDT, I knew I was out of the Finals unless I came up with a radical solution (which never came).

Ah, it was still fun.

Never could get to final puzzle

I never could get to the final puzzle on the 12th of July. I kept starting at the 8 eyes card and entering the SSSSSSST code, but it would go no further. What was I doing wrong? I got an email today from Volvo talking about the dunes. Could someone shed some light on this?

Official email from the US. I hope this finally puts all doubts to rest. They don't quite give the method for solving, but by the answer, we already *know* the method! Wink

Dear hunter,

The Hunt is almost over. Thousands of hunters from all over the world searched tirelessly for that desired Volvo XC90 inspired by Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest.

It sure wasn't easy. If you completed the trip around the world and solved all puzzles, we think you should be proud of yourself! We noticed that some people went to great lengths to solve puzzles. We saw the valiant struggles. But we also saw the rise of a close Hunt community with people helping each other along, an effect we appreciate very much. Thumbs up for everyone making The Hunt a success!

Final answer
What was the correct final answer? Now that the last clue for the final puzzle has been sent and the hunters have submitted their final answers, we'll tell you. You've seen the two sets of symbols in the dunes, right? One set contained symbols that made up the 8 numbers for the solution; the other set defined the order of the number. The two combined made the correct string of numbers: 43642476

Final Leg
Now there is only one stage left. The hunters from around the world that were the first to submit the correct final answer and meet eligibility requirements will compete at a secret location to find the Volvo XC90 inspired by Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest.

We are currently in the process of contacting finalists for the Final Leg.

Even if you are not one of the finalists, be sure to view the activities that take place during the Final Leg of The Hunt. See who's the best hunter of them all and who'll uncover the buried Volvo XC90. In early August we'll notify you when the films and photos are available on The Hunt website.

The Hunt remains online
Meanwhile all the clues and puzzles from The Hunt are still available online, so even if you didn't solve all puzzles you can keep trying to solve them for fun at www.volvocars.us/thehunt.

For now, we thank you for hunting along!
