Turns out it's viral, I think the one I heard that from said it was for some show on CourtTV.

EDIT: At least I think that's the one....

EDIT 2: That's definitely the one. I'll link you to where I read it (it's a roleplay community on LiveJournal, but the post is out-of-character. Please, if there's anyone here spammily-inclined (not an accusation, just a precaution), don't take it there).

I have seen scuttlebutt that this was about a show on CourtTV, did some searching for that, and found that it was thought it could be for an episode of Parco P.I. After reading the episode synopsis, though, I don't think so. (Sorry, I don't have a link for it.)

It seems a little more likely that it's a work in progress by author Thomas Pynchon (see http://www.slate.com/id/2146152/fr/rss/ and http://gawker.com/news/amazon/thomas-pynchon-viral-mastermind-188695.php). I'm easily entertained, so I don't mind viral marketing, whatever this may actually turn out to be.

My mom just forwarded me a snapshot of a billboard in the Chicago Loop. So it looks like the marketing is branching out to more cities, now.
