UPDATE - Madame Z attacked

Quote:
I've been attacked... again!
July 18, 2006 at 12:11 PM

I don't think the spirit world is assaulting me any more. It is a mortal, someone made of flesh and blood, who has attacked me! Someone hit me with a shovel, that's what happened! Let me tell the story from the start.

I went outside last night around nine thirty to listen to the cicadas. I heard cicadas all right, but I also heard someone digging in the cemetery. That seemed very strange. No one has died recently. I'd definitely know that, so I went off to investigate. I called out, asking who was digging at this time of night. Dummy! Someone moved around out there, and I decided to go investigate.

What I found seemed so ridiculous, like something out of a bad movie. Someone was digging up one of the graves, and they must have run when I called out, because I found a half-dug grave out in the cemetery, a flashlight, and nothing else. I should have gone back to the house and called the sheriff, but no I just had to go look, and that's when the jerk came up behind me and hit me with a shovel. The next thing I knew I was flat on my face in the hole, and someone was shoveling dirt down on top of me.

My head was swimming, and I heard someone say "Die, Z" but I can't remember the sound of their voice. The earth was pressing down on me, my arms and my legs wouldn't respond. That hit on my head must have given me a concussion. My heart was pounding and I was sure that I was going to be buried alive! Luckily my lungs still worked, and I managed to yell.

That caused Mr. (or Ms.) sucker-punch to run off. It seemed like ages later that Anton came along and dug me out. I've been hiding in my room ever since, trying to get a grip on myself. I'm not fine yet, but I will be. That must have been a human that attacked me! Why would they do that? Was it a human the other time too or... are a human and a spirit working together against me? Why would anyone want to do that?

So the attacker was human and digging in the graveyard - that implicates the preacher, or maybe Emerson and the possible treasure map winging its way to us...

we don't know for sure that it was Stanley. There are other mortals that could have done it. Like Jack or Sarah.

I think that I remember that someone was staying at the church to keep an eye on things because some one was messing with the headstones. I can't find it now.

i'd like to know who's grave he/she was digging up. she said they were "digging up one of the graves" but never says which one. I think it might be important.

that is a good point. we can't really rule anyone out at this point. hopefully he will update his case notes soon and we can get his side of the story.

One other person to look at is KH. He hasn't updated his blog since the 8th

I was thinking the same about KH. The only issue is that he does not live there. Thus it would be quite difficult to do the pop-in without being noticed by Z or her neighbours, simply to dig a grave.

Here's my theory so far:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
We know that Samuel Backwell was a pastor and died of old age. Yet he is still around. Why? We also know that the graveyard is close to the old chapel that burned down around the 1900's, same time SB dies of old age.

I think there's something buried there and I believe SB put it there. He is still here either guarding it (potentially from one of the other advisors that want to find it) or wants to recover it himself. And I believe that something is the secret to why EVERY advisor is connected to the Wylie House.

i sent an email to anton asking about what happened in the graveyard but no reply.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
i think that emerson buried something and that the paper he was holding which we should be getting a copy of will be a clue about it. anton speculatd origianlly that he had possibly buried money, but i'm not so sure. i think the fire is important. on the bay horse page it says "mysterious fire" which clearly means it is not known how it began. it is possible the fire was used to murder emerson, in order to take either his money or what he may have possibly buried. anton speculates that he may have died a rich man, however he says he was "claimed by the great depression" which implies that he lost his money. who knows, i guess we will find out.

The new obituaries tell us that he died in 1939, 33 years after the fire.

Yeah I read that too and made me raise an eyebrow.

Still, I think he has buried something in the cemetery. Him taking a job close by is only so he can keep an eye on it.

Madame Z replied. Looks like we have to spell out everything for her. :p

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Oh my, I could never do something like that to a spirit. It would violate
every bond of trust that exists between a medium and the spirits she
contacts.

Jack? He was reading in his room when I went outside to listen to the
cicadas. I'm not sure how long it was before I heard the digging, though,
and I certainly didn't run back inside to check up on him.

I hope this helps!

i got a reply too:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Thank you so much! I'm sure your kind wishes will help. In fact, I feel
much better today, although Jack has refused to let me out of my bed
today. He's been so solicitous, bringing me breakfast and reading to me.
Definitely above and beyond the call of duty for a tenant!
