Good read, and good job on coming up with the codeword and advising that they may be bugged. However, I think it's also possible that the friend who set it all up was bought out or even impersonated by the BHG.

Just FYI, I'm The Junta on his friend's list. I don't know about the other two that haven't been accounted for.

definitely seems like it's time to put the paranoid hat on. Jirue, yeah I wouldn't discount the friend 100% either. Definitely something to keep in mind.

Anyone have ideas for fleshing out our group more?

I suppose we should start with devising what the WHG stands for and who they know, in case any one of us is contacted. That way our story is consistent. First and foremost, we should have no ties to the Wonderland Society. I think it's probably best we don't even acknowledge their existence and play dumb about it if asked.

If we can establish contact with the one BHG member that was kicked out that John knew, we could contact him under the pretenses that we're a group from another nation (or just a rival hacker group) that was leaked information about Alice by the government and are seeking to liberate it from the BHG. If my assumptions are right, this ex-BHG person will probably have no qualms about helping us get back at the BHG if we can establish a trust. John said this guy was kicked out for leaking information, so it shouldn't be too hard to reach him under false pretenses without giving away our link to the Wonderland Society.

If we do establish communication with this person, I think it's probably best to assume that whatever we say will be known by the BHG, either through Alice, or by means of a mole. This person may have been "kicked out" as a ploy to establish himself within another group to act as a mole. That could explain the ambush: John's friend might have been working with this ex-BHG guy, who is really still working for the BHG.

Sorry, I'm just kinda thinking out loud here. I don't think there's much we can do until we talk to John again, if we can find out a way to reach that guy.

I'm also curious about what happened to John's friend that was "arrested." I wonder if he knew about the warehouse.

Ok, I think that accounts for everyone on the friend pages, I'll double check. I believe Tallerbird (on unfiction) is Claire. I think in any case, the MySpace pages should be considered compromised.

hey folks,
just wanted everyone to know I am still in on this one. I am on vacation (or holiday russel) so online status is less than optimal.

I love the WHG idea. I do have a web presence (that inculdes all ther fantastico goodies) and I just registered my domain (imnotnull.com) that we could use for something like this if it can wait unitl I am back (Sun/Mon).

A few random thoughts while waiting for numerous ARGs to update Wink

Website for WHG: Is it really in character for us to do this? If we're a clandestine black hat group vying to be the first to steal a super intelligent computer, would we have a .com for it? Not saying it's impossible, but I think we'd have to have a very good reason for it.

I think Jiroe has it pinpointed, the main thing is for us to present a unified story if ever queried by a member of the BHG. Primarily, we have to have proof of knowledge of Alice that does not link us to the WonderlandSoc. We will hopefully have our 'in' with the former member of the BHG. Hopefully even a small token bit of knowledge about Alice that only BHG members know that will give us leverage over them.

What would we need then to be convincing? Ways to mislead them, make them think we know more than we do. Make them think they can find us and stop them. Maybe more importantly, lead them to think there is a leak within their own current group so that they star infighting. Anything to delay or snare their pursuit of the Wonderland gang.

Well, keep your paranoia caps on, it's more fun that way.
