that penny seems to have intimidated the rest of the bidders!

I know that the important thing here is the money raised for charity, and I don't want to operate on unfounded assumptions here (stemming mostly from superficial checks and the content of another Meta thread) -- but I'd really like to see this auction go to a player who'll keep the lot together and not potentially sell the pieces off on eBay for profit.

So, yeah. For those of you with disposable income (mine went to the SF ticket) and a love of things perplexian, bid! bid again! Let's keep this going until the end Smile

I know exactly what you mean cassandra, and I REALLLLLLYYY want to bid on this, but even with disposable income £127 is a LOT to spend on pxc stuff Sad I'm not sure my parents would understand it either Wink

It ain't over till it's over. The ebay guys have jumped in and outbid the individual bidders, but there's over two days left for someone to decide to take the (expensive) plunge. Lot's of time.

Looks like xxsammisamxx is going to win this, they've been top for a week now, it looks like they put in a REALLY high bid early on, I don't know how high but if anyone wants to find out just try Wink

Its a bit of a shame there wasn't more of an auction over this, these unique auctions usually have loads of small bids and the winning bidder changes all the time, not 1 bidder who takes control from the beginning Sad

Well, it's currently at £155, and there's still virtually two days to go. Surely we can get this puched a little higher? or indeed *much* higher?

Come on people. Bid! Bid Now!

Sammisam has a HUGE ebay store full of Perplex City stuff, I've bought quite a bit of her (I'm assuming) in the last few months.

Right. Before this thread degenerates any further, I have, against my better judgement, been in touch with the current leading bidder on the auction.

The person in question has kindly taken the time to write back and confirm that indeed, as I'm certain anybody else involved here would, they are bidding on the items in the auction in order to take advantage of the generosity of Mind Candy, and acquire some very nice, unique items for themself. In the process of doing this of course, a very worthwhile cause is going to benefit from the proceeds, and much needed monies will be given over to some very vulnerable children.

I think I can speak for everyone concerned in saying that we would expect any bidders on the auction to treat it in a similar manner.

There is now just a smidge over 24 hours remaining on the auction, so please, feel free to take a wander over and place a bid - Linkification

Thank you

Jamie

Sorry if my posts have seemed a bit negative towards sammisam, I haven't meant any insults towards them, I'd just have prefered an auction with lots of people making smaller bids and it rising gradually over time, not just a few big jumps with one person winning the whole time through.

I guess sammisams ebay store has got them some profit to allow them to put in a large bid on this item, but just because they have an ebay store selling pxc stuff doesn't mean they are buying this for resale, it is just as likely they play the game and started selling the cards to get rid of their spares.

I'm glad to see that Juxta has confirmed this and I wish everyone the best of luck in winning, including sammisam, I just hope more money can be made for the NSPCC and the bidding doesn't stop now Very Happy

Thanks for clearing that up juxta. I admit I have been confused as to the concern that someone would buy it now for resale at a higher price. Wouldn't anyone who wants to buy it and keep it just bid on it now? Maybe the concern was that lot would be split up into smaller pieces? Still, the people offering the auction could have done that from the beginning if they had wanted to.

As the money is all going to charity, it doesn't matter who gets it, does it? Confused

Now that I see the controversy created by this simple auction, I understand why the site admins don't allow individuals to promote at unfiction. I'm glad they made an exception in this case.

I also wondered about:
Quote:
We did indeed think about donating some money to this forum, however, we decided that it was far more important to ensure the safety of abused and neglected children than to fund people's hobby.

Donating money to abused children is a noble thing, don't get me wrong. But, of course, without this hobby, the item you are selling to raise money for them wouldn't exist. The statement I quoted sounds condescending and dismissive to me, but that probably wasn't the intention.
----
hehehe - I just had an image of the creators of this auction disagreeing as to who gets what (and, no I am not comparing them to the Orcs in Return of the King fighting over Frodo's Mithril Vest -another shiny object) so they come up with the auction and donation to charity plan. Excellent thinking!! I suppose there is no way that samisam is acting as a purchaser for someone else who doesn't want to be identified? hehehe

( for anyone who didn't register the "hehehe" yes, that was a joke. Have a sense of humour for God's sake. Wink )

Yes, well its less of the fact we couldnt decide how to split the artwork, thats easy- (cut into 10 pieces), its more of the fact we would rather the piece went to one safe home, and even raise some money in the proccess.

If one good thing came out of the video competition, it'll be the well being of the kids Razz

Oh and just to clarify, all the bonus stuff was chucked in by MC after they found out we would be auctioning the artwork, so its not like we we torn apart trying to decide if Ollie got the signed card or the Artwork Wink

Please keep bidding, this is such a good cause, and an excellently priceless lot.

There is less than 8 hours left now, and I must say I am astounded at the amount of money we have managed to raise so far. It would be great if we could break the £500 mark, come on people, BID, BID, BID!

WOW

I left yesterday and it was at £210, and now its hit £410 Shocked

WAY out of my price range now, just one question, will the "limited edition" item be revealed to everyone once Juxta finds out what it is? Or will we have to rely on the seller to hopefully let us know.
